  • I just watched it in bed, im about to go to sleep, and im filling my pants, very creepy ending

  • Kermode must be friendly with the makers of that crock of bullcrap, or he would of had a rant about how stupid the end was, the fuckin mug. I'm gonna egg his stupid face if I ever see him, the jerkoff.

  • A good movie ! Until the last 20 or so minutes, I'd advice anyone not to watch it cos it's fuckin stupid. Could a done better mesen, and I'm a crack head.

  • @wrexshunt it's like the Serbian Film in respects to the ending

  • terrible film

  • Not a film for the squeamish. Glad Kermode liked it.

  • Should have not included the wicker man-esq ending. It just got silly.

  • @kanyeste you didnt watch the film , there was clear signs leading to the cult , sorry the director didnt spell it out for you.

  • an interesting film but took too long to get going...the wicker man type ending was a bit silly tbh...the film is uneven and needed a more engaging narrative

  • Best film of 2011

  • Just finished watching the film, man it turned into the wicker man! Awesome film.

  • Kermode's gone soft. The film was intense and uncomfortable up to the bad shoot-em-up game sequence in the tunnels then it just became silly.

  • Guess it's one of those film's that is best rented first as opinions are split straight down the middle.

  • @switchbladeromance1 Do people even rent films any more?

  • @enigma19833 I meant online rental,such as Lovefilm.

  • Just seen this film - it's absolutely sufocating and extremely nauseating in a good horror film way. I'm a big horror fan but I cant remember the last time a film has shaken me like this. This could well be a serious contentender to knock my fave horror film of time 'Rosemary's Baby' off the number one spot. if you haven't , YOU MUST SEE THIS!!!!!

  • @indianna22 Just saw it this morning and had a similar reaction - I thought the Wicker Man comparisons were good. I found Kill List queasily uncomfortable in a similar way.

  • The ending, including the last 15 minutes were fucking amazing and totally unexpected for me.

  • I lvoed it , thought the ending was good.

  • Just watched this. It doesn't make sense. The gushing reviews are yet another example of critics following critics. I'm not sure which fairytale is more apt, The Pied Piper or The Emperor Has No Clothes. Some very nice hammer work though.

  • Just watched it now. Christ this is a sick pup of a film and pretty good too. NOT for the faint of heart though

  • I'm still not sure about this film. I found the 1st 30 mins or so extremely boring. Then it got interesting when they met that man about the job. Hand...knife etc. You start to ask questions why he did it.

Then it just seems to be a normal hitman film, then the director (SPOILER ALERT) feels it necessary to throw in a bit of Wickerman.

I felt a bit un-easy, but I did not find it scary. Good acting, great musical score (which to be honest is the scariest thing in this film). An 'ok' film.

  • this film is fucking brilliant

  • The audio work is unbelievable!

  • Excellent film

  • -ment.

  • Saw it this afternoon. I walked out near the end. If I want to feel uncomfortable I'll look at my bank statement. There was nothing to be learned from this film, it was just another boring sensory overload, Hitchcocks prediction of future audiences being attached to an emotional sensory device is getting closer

  • @furryhat1 wow, I bet you're a blast at parties

  • @dontleademsomuch Sorry, the film got me down, it was so f***king depressing

  • It seems that this film has polarised opinion. I reckon that means it's definitely worth something, if both the good and bad opinions of it are strong.

Personally I thought it was great. Tense, funny, scary, realistically gritty and ultimately just extremely strange.

  • i'm glad i forgot that kermode compared this to "wicker man", because it gives away a bit much. i immediately thought about the "serbian film" similarity, too. "dead man's shoes" is another good comparison. i didn't feel "angel heart" at all, though.

  • It burnt slowly to start with but then turned disturbingly violent and had me fixed to my seat.

  • It was a film that was going on nicely as one film..then it became the wicker man and that didnt work. Another problem is that all the people were scumbags who had or were doing shitty things, very lazy plotting. The first 3/4 of the film great...the last act really sucked.

  • I thought this was appaling! i really, really hate films that include things that disorientate the viewer but never resolve them(See lost) Why did they say 'thank you'?

Why was the new girlfriend part of it? why was anything happening for any reason?

Yes it was very oppresiveand in your face, and i agree that there was a really uncomfortable feeling presence throughout the whole film. However a film that goes nowhere is just that! A nothing film!

  • @jimmyjamwhambam why should all films explain everything?

  • @drplbiftin there is a difference, this film explains nothing! How do you get involved with any character when you can't understand how and why the way they act! **spoilers take the second killing with the hammer, it was uncomfortable because it was brutal but I only found it shocking like a saw film violent scene. If it had been about something it would have resonated a lot more with the audience. It didn't connect at all.

  • @jimmyjamwhambam to-may-to, to-mah-to

  • @jimmyjamwhambam film's that leaves the audience asking questions are the best kind, especially when done with such craft. Personally I dont want a film to tie all the pieces together into a nice bow at the end...........

  • A critic wanted to walk out. When I saw the film on Friday, there were only five people in the audience. And two walked out after half an hour, and another member was coming in and out of the screening. My friend and I were stuck to our seats and as Dr. K says, it is a deeply uncomfortable film.

  • First time in a long time I totally agree with Dr. K. A great film.

  • i'm still waiting fro the horror genre to take a big step back from gore and violence and to inject a large dose of suspense and atmosphere back into what's become kind of a dull, over-commercialised (or, far too salaciously obsessed with shock value) and pretty soulless load of cack.

  • This is going to sound like I'm making this up, but Neil Maskell, who played Jay, was my acting teacher once upon a time.

I saw this 2 nights ago and I really liked it. The ending confused me, but I like it that way, because I have to think about it.

  • I honestly think this is the most over hyped, pretentious work of the year and for people to run around screaming a modern masterpiece is a travesty. It angers me that a film like A Serbian film gets condemned as exploitation but this essentially is the same film, Sharing similar things; How someone can become monstrous and manipulated into doing awful things their closest love ones .

  • @timporter1989 It is the same film. If you go through each part, protagonist gets convinced to do one last job, doesn't know what's involved, slightly mysterious character who turns out to be Judas, gets increasingly disturbed as he does the job. If there was sex instead of murders it would be the exact same.

  • The hutchback moment does not work on a character or thematic level. Why was she laughing? Why didn't they scream: Hi it's me! I know you disregard A Serbian Film as a exploitation piece of trash but in my opinion: when that ending with his family happens it's devastating because you have invested so much time with all the family members. The pagan stuff and final punchline in this just feels rushed, unexplained and out of touch with the rest of the film.

  • Jamie Graham of Total Film presented the film as: A totally original, unconventional piece of genre cinema. If he was referring to the first hour i would whole hearty agree. The character interchange between Jay and Gal was fantastic. Totally natural, off kilter & darkly humorous. Although just like with Eli Roth's produced: The Last Exorcism, the final twenty minutes is a totally abomination. Combining The Wicker Man meets A Serbian Film for me does not cut the mustard.

  • Did the podcast cut out early for anyone else?

    Very good film this.

  • @RockBottomRiser21 yes, it cut out early for me too. There was ment to be a podcast extra as well. Dont know what happend

  • @badhead I hope they re-upload it, but I'm not holding my breath. I can just go and assume that this was his film of the week anyway. :)

  • @RockBottomRiser21 Never would have happened with 35 mil.
