No one plays this like her. It was her recording that made me want to learn this even though I wasn't ready yet (8th grade, my 3rd year of playing piano lol)
This peace is definitely not easy. I'm learning it right now. This is the best version I've heard and it was Alicia De Larrocha playing it when I first heard it on the radio. As soon as I heard it I was like "I wanna play it!"
de Larrocha is almost unique in capturing the spirit of this work. Many who attempt it treat it as a somewhat heavy-handed, virtuosic tour-de-force but with this interpretation, I can really picture the dummy being tossed up in the air by the girls with the blanket. Thank you for posting this. Her recordings of the Spanish composers are definitely the standard by which other interpretations will be judged.
We mourn de Larrocha's passing today, but we will keep her alive in our hearts and minds by listening to her valuable legacy of recordings of a wide variety of repertoire. She was indisputably one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century.
Alicia is the Goddess of the Keyboard. Brilliant playing, consummate artistry -- de Larrocha OWNS this repertoire. No one will ever play it better. Thank you for posting this treasure.
I cab¡n only think of a better version and thats the version she did years later I assume although I don't know when. Anyway, she is the only one who seems to understand this piece perfectly. Bravo Alicia!!
Most definitely the best version of this piece ever.

de Larrocha was not a pianist. She was a miraculous intervention. The Spanish repertoire that she championed is not given its rightful attention.
