Look at those happy feet! She makes me feel happy just watching how much she enjoys clogging. That is cool! This should be taught in schools, it would make the kids happier :)
I tend to think that clogging originated in the British Isles and of course, Eire. I can't see where else it could have come from in Europe, but of course, I could be wrong! Either way, it's great to watch.
@TheAnn2shoes I do know Wooden Clogs were the cheapest and most hard wearing shoes out there, so miners and factory workers through the industrial revolution wore them ergo developing the clog dancing to go with the hard soled shoes. However as wotonearth said, I'm sure the British didn't invent the tapping of feet to get noise in dance.
@ScotchIrishFool1 Actually it did come from scottland. It came from Irish River dances. When it was mixed with our old timey music the mountain folk added in their own twists and made it their own. Flatfooting was more of the American thing.
@RedneckGal1994 actually "river dance" is the name of a dance company. The members of RiverDance do both traditional & non-traditional Irish Step Dancing. Clogging was formed when both the Irish & Scottish (and everyone else) came to the New America's. Its is actually our national folk dance & is 100% American.
I am absolutely certain that the British cloggers would disagree that clog dancing is 100% American. Clog dancing in coal mining communities started in the 14th century, when clogs were introduced into the UK, just a couple of years before America was colonised. That and as 'clog' is gaelic for 'time' - as kept by the 'heel/toe' original step - it is fairly certain that the US is NOT the birthplace of clogging. I also doubt the UK is either!
@wotonearth Your comments are very interesting, however I tend to think that the dancing originated in all four countries in the United Kingdom plus Eire of course. I can't that it could have come from any other European country - but, who knows?
I love down home clogging. Not this faux-modernized version you see now days on America's got Talent and such. It makes you wonder if they even know where clogging came from and what a huge part of mountain culture it is.
I agree! TRUE down-home clogging is where it at. What i saw on America's Got Talent was a DISGRACE to true clogging. Clogging today has "sold out" They make it so modern so kids will think its fun & they kill the tradition.
Fantastic dancer!

@ScotchIrishFool1 It may have had it's origin in Romanian and other folk dances. Check out Verduk from the Romafest on Youtube.

You guys have it wrong. Obviously she is not 50. That must be the age of the event.
Judging from her agility and stamina she is 14.
