As a Christian (& gentile),what Tovia said about Christmas' paganism is correct...many Christians do know this & are taught it by our pastors, often as preface to the annual Christmas sermon. The date was chosen for the very reason of being the height of paganism, & most of the traditions are also pagan...however, b/c they've been usurped for so long now, they've long since lost that association & thus aren't condemned, but are just cultural tradition. Many of us do prefer Hanukah, btw.
Most Christians can't see that the practices of Christianity are pagan in origin and have nothing to do with what is taught in the bible, the Hebrew scriptures or the NT. And many simply don't care. Christians need to read Zechariah 14:16 which talks about the feast of tabernacles being kept by all nations during the messianic reign. It won't be Christmas they will be celebrating but God's feast of tabernacles. Christians need to read all of the bible.
Tovia is right about the Origin of Christmas, it did originate out of paganism. Sooo the controversy is that Jews should not have Christmas trees??? Well really Christians shouldn't either...but I confess I did as well. So maybe I should not have one as well.
What racist bastards. When will we all learn to accept?
