I love the new battle animations and the fact, that you won't come across (let alone capture) an old pokemon until you finish the main game. That's awesome!

I always thought the new games (like Perl for example) to be too stuffed full of pokemon and therefore it appears to be a wise decision.

But.. will they be able to beat HeartGold and SoulSilver in terms of content, detail and long-term motivation?

I think that the 3rd game's version mascot will be water/dragon. "Why?' you ask? Simple.

So far, every generation had at least one game mascot who was a water type. Blue/Blastoise, Crystal/Suicune, Sapphire/Kyogre, Pearl/Palkia.

One more reason:Zekrom(Dragon/electric)­> that third. maybe water type, pokemon> Reshiram(Dragon/fire).

Early in the game, you have access to ONLY Gen. 5 Pokemon. So you get that same feeling that you got from Red/Blue. It's like they started from scratch. But later on (possibly when you finish the main story) you can get your Ge. 1-4 Pokemon.
