I thought he could have got the tail up alot earlier, even if he is heavy, there would be alot less drag if he got the tail up, and that would have helped him gain some speed and got off the ground a hundred feet shorter without flaps.
Must have been have been heavy and hot. It looks like he snatched in 20 degrees of flaps halfway down the runway but it didn't hop off. Still a great takeoff. I wouldn't try that in a 172.

I get best results by getting the tail up early, to reduce drag, then pull it off into ground effect and build speed. Works for my '57 180.

He might have been. He had is family and camping gear. It wasn't real hot, but it was the middle of the day.
