  • This is almost certainly the greatest piece of SNES music ever created...right up there with the North Wall track from Actraiser. Oh, the memories. I used to sit and listen to this track for hours as a kid...wow...twenty years ago. To this day, I've never forgotten it. It doesn't surprise me that this game still goes for nearly what it cost in 1993.

  • Sounds like the forest from Chrono Trigger

  • 1:08 The mana beast..../shiver

  • Best. Game. Ever.

  • souvenirs... 2 player coop all night long with my best buddy !

  • Ahhhh, the memories come pouring back, just like the water :)

  • Square was best when they were two separate companies. Their best games were released when the company names were just Squaresoft & later Square.

  • just found my first ever remix of this song onyoutube >>>> watch?v=apij2nCW_aM

    kid did it major justice

  • As long as we're talking about the elementals, what about the one that was never put in the game, Sol? Discuss.

  • @Morax666666

Non-existent. The empty slots are for Girl's Shade and Sprite's Lumina, which neither of them yet.

  • @GayLPer

    Which never of them get*

  • @Morax666666 If it existed, it would have been a copy of Lumina, so I'm fine without it. the one who looked like out of nowhere for me was Dryade.

  • 1 of the best games of all time! 1 of the best composers of all time! 1 of the best consoles of all time! 1 of the best game developers of all time! lol

  • a tear just came to my eye...damn this game...damn this music...*sigh* soooo many hours spent with this game....like many others i kept leaving and entering the cave just to hear this song again and again.

  • Salamando disliked this!

  • This song didn't play nearly enough in the game - sometimes I just went back to Undine's cave to hear it.

  • *iam Shade, Patron of the Dark*

    damn good Game!!!

  • I love hearing old stampy in the background bellowing out his free-willy like calls

  • the start of it reminds me of teranigma game, another brilliant rpg game.

  • Gods this music gives me the chills.

No other music, in ANY form can ever top Secret of Mana's music, for me atleast.

  • @MrOrbotron The same goes for me. In my opinion, this is the greatest soundtrack of all-time!

  • re was another dungeon here. There never was.

  • I don't know why they made cave entrances inside this cave. It made me think the

  • Mr Bean: "Magic *snort* *snort*"

  • God, this song....it's like you just unlocked all the secrets of the ages and they flow out and surround you and grant you the power to do anything. Love this game! Best song, hands down.

  • "No one can stop me now."

  • eternal recurrence, hmmm? did they get that from Nietzsche?

  • @occultologist

It is really funny you mentioned that because I happen to be writing a college essay involving him at this very minute while listening to Secret of Mana music! Interesting coincidence that I just happened to read the comments.

  • @r0botchickn1 in my experience, there's no such thing as coincidences. the world is shaped in part by what we focus on.

  • The first 10 seconds in this song is very reminiscent of 'Mountains' of Terranigma's soundtrack. It uses the same opening sound. Still, not saying there's anything wrong with that.

  • @AdamBoy64 This game is at least 2 years older though. So maybe Terranigma was inspired by it? :)

  • I FUCKING LOOOOOVE THIS GAAAAAMEEEEE

  • ...i know this is off topic but did anyone notice that in tales of symphonia 2 the guy named richter used a move named eternal recurrence?

  • This is so beautiful.

  • Whenever you conquere something terrible I hear this beat. It's warm and refreshing.

  • Eternal Recurrence was the most creative music in the game, the great powers from Undine were born into the girl and sprite, now all three characters felt like they could save the world, and nothing could stop them, and the music made you feel the ultimate feeling of being alive, the music also made me think about a beautiful purple haired sorceress with the power to see the past, present, and future in a pool of dreams, while a dragon sleeps by her side,as the waterfalls of Undine's cave turn to glass.

  • The most underused theme in the game.. I wish it was used more often.

Also, it seems like Richter Abend took a page from the book of SoM.

  • The beginning is just epic...

  • @XTheGuvX @KazumeSR @SmaddyDiva honestly, even being a big fan of Chrono series, I still prefer they keep it dead. Why? Coz it would be much more likely from them to screw the history [see what they have been doing with FF for reference, graphics, graphics, graphics, graphics and more graphics, the important part is ignored]. Personally, if a rpg has a bad story background its completely worthless, doesnt matter how good the gaming is it would be an empty and meaningless thing to play.

  • It would be much better if they make a game with a similar system as Chrono to go on. When Chrono Cross came out I was really frustrated by what happened with the previous protagonists. Dont get me wrong CC is a GREAT game and I do like it a lot, but I would hate to find a new title for the series and then find out Serge and co were caught, raped, spanked, sodomized and/or whatever else Squared-Enix perverted minds can think of by a new incarnation of Lavos.

  • There is a song in the game Terranigma that sounds almost like this one in the beginning.

  • Music makes all the difference doesn't it? Was originally searching for the original 8 bit opening theme from 1986 Final Fantasy NES - then onto Metroid - a little Kid Icarus and then this, Secret of Mana. Who were the composers? Not their names, but I mean, who WERE they? Did they know each other? I wonder what they were like. Without the music, all these games would not have left such an indelible impression. When I listen, I.feel.like.I.am.winning. Thanks so much for posting!

  • Secret of Mana definitely has one of the best soundtracks of any game. Period. Why in gods name can't Square Enix give us another GOOD mana game, chrono game, Final Fantasy, Grandia, Star Ocean, anything? These series (if they are still being made) are going steadily downhill. Star Ocean, my favorite, peaked at 2. Legend of Mana was the last decent mana game. FFXIII sucks. Chrono disappeared, Grandia disappeared. Come on Square Enix, you were best when you made games for SNES/PS1&2.

  • @XTheGuvX

Square-Enix was best when they were called Squaresoft and Enix respectively. I didn't know it at the time of the merger, but after recent releases like 13, 14 (my god...), killign the mana series, not continuing the chrono series, etc... i know now...

    'Squaresoft is dead'

    'Enix is dead'

Some plan to merge and dominate the RPG market eh SE? I say your plan, after all these years, has effectively failed, and all that's left are feelings of sadness to see my fav companies 'lose it'

  • @KazumeSR The strange thing, separately Square and Enix made amazing games. You'd think with their combined resources and talents they'd make even more amazing things. I'm just baffled every time a new title comes out, it's a lot of re-releases, rehashing of old stories, and re-use of old characters.

In the 90s you could play anything with "Squaresoft" on it and have a fun gaming experience. Now, not so much.

  • @XTheGuvX actually it wasn't Square Enix...it was Squaresoft back then. Games started to suck ever since they have merged.

  • @XTheGuvX I think it's hard to keep a series fresh after a certain amount of time. It's something that people consider too rarely, but I think the creative minds behind them just get tired after a while, and they might not want to admit it to themselves, because they want to keep making money out of it. IMO, the Zelda series has stagnated in recent years too. The creative teams either need to take breaks to do other stuff in between, or they need to bring in fresh heads.

  • @HashRash87 fuck you you evil bitchy arregont legend of zelda series hater peice of dog shit

  • @heerogunkenobi See a shrink. Seriously.

  • @HashRash87 fuck you bitch dont fuck with me asshole

  • Lol.

  • @heerogunkenobi As a fan of both the Zelda series and SoM, I'd just like to ask you one thing... LOL Y U MAD THO?

  • @EternalRecurrence666 that's none of you bees wax

  • I am happy that I grew up with some great games. I was born in 1980, so spent a good part of the 90's playing nintendo :) good times... I had a great time playing this game... and still do :)

    -mike

  • It´s simply unbelievable how much love in game design it takes to create a piece of music like this on a 16-bit-machine. Along with graphics and gameplay, this cartridge is a masterpiece of console gaming and still outstanding.

  • i hated leaving the area to go on to the next area JUST because this music would stop when i had to leave

  • @kellyraye815

    lol, me too!

  • @kellyraye815

    HOLY SH*T, MEEE TOOO!!

  • man i tell ya, the first time i played this when i beat that cute lizard thing i felt bad. but then this music played and sent shivers down my spine as the lizard faded away.

    epic moment i tell ya.

  • Everyone who played this game, loves it, it is stil one of the best Games ever made.

  • @MrDragyy I second that. Not too many games out there that can make the hairs stand up on the back of neck. As a matter of fact I would have to say this is one my favorite games ever.

  • @whatnamesnottakenyet absolutly CORRECT !

  • This is so beautiful, and the music plays during a meeting with a Spirit which in most video game character's eyes view as a beautiful thing.

  • Epic win.

  • I got surprised by the boss of that area who swallowed my characters, I was desperate when I saw it happen.

  • Love it!

  • This tune, and this part of the game, when the characters master magic for the first time, this is when the game becomes epic. The tune is so epic.

  • @wagull I disagree, the game becomes epic in a bunch of different places. It manages to constantly one-up itself. After this when you get to the upper land and the shroom village, it gets even more epic. Then you get Flammie and the game completely opens up. Then it turns even more epic near endgame.

  • @JahRasta311

I wrote: "This is when it becomes epic", as in for the first time, IMO. Of course it continues to get better, and, I guess, "more epic", as you put it, but IMO a game is either epic or not, and this part of the game is when, for the FIRST time, it crosses that threshold when you know this is no ordinary game anymore.

  • @wagull I can read. The game becomes epic when you turn it on, then, if you want to get technical.

  • Awesome, healing magic finally! No more stocking up on every single freaking healing items.

  • @4lbatross Candy was worthless for the most part. Now... royal jam, thats where its at, lol.

  • Well, it helped in early dungeons.

  • i remember walking in and out of undine's cave just to hear this music over and over again. i still remember the tune till this day...

*tear* so many months playing this game...good times.

  • At the beginnign of the song, I thought it was from Terranigma...omg fail xD

  • @TomKleesor same here. Well I knew it was from Mana, but that song sounds very Terranigma for sure.

  • Wow this song reminds me much :)

    A wonderful Reminiscence. :D

  • Anyone knows where to find a .mp3 on this? I only found some horrible .midi interpretations.. i did manage to find all the other tracks but this one as a .mp3

  • You can try to rip this song here off youtube using a stream ripper. They are easy to find on a web search. Funny thing though I still have a ton of midis from this game and other snes rpgs and some of them really don't sound all that bad.

Granted I got those in like the mid to later 90's and somehow still have them, but while they aren't completely accurate they are still interesting to hear, even at this date.

Or maybe I am just overly nostalgic heh

  • @notyoursavior78

I already found it, still thanks :)

  • ah, the sound of destiny at hand!

  • I'm not one of those losers who thinks that the game industry is dead and that no modern games even hold a candle to older games, but, ech, sometimes I kinda miss games like Secret of Mana. =P

Today's games are pretty good, though.

  • True it's not dead; but it's slowly dying though. I still prefer many games of the old generation.

  • I can tell you how to get it, just reply with whatever and I'll PM you the details; it's easy. You just need a controller for you comp. (or not, but it might suck without one).

  • im sorry to final fantasy but why cant there be like 12 Secret of Manas instead of final fantasy??? u gotta admit that would be awesome

  • There almost are twelve.. And they aren't very good past the third...

  • it's real haunting. i love it!

  • This is probably my third favorite SoM song, after The Legend and Angel's Fear. Hiroki Kikuta is just astounding.

  • u need to play mana at snes before u play the others? same or different story?

  • @NisseOONisse I think they're all different stories which don't go linearly, but I also think that the SNES one is the best one by far, so if you're going to play any, do yourself a favor and play this one.

  • Don't think SoM is the best RPG of all time you say, NisseOONisse? It is. By far.

  • @ZeldaGamingMan I think Zelda is a far superior RPG to SoM. :D

  • @HisDivineShadow245 When I talk about RPGs, you have to be able to level up, otherwise I don't count is as an RPG. There for Zelda 2 is the only Zelda RPG so far in my opinion.

  • @vchelaru Well, actually Sword of Mana/Seiken Densetsu 1 must come before this one. It says "The man forced the world to knee to his name. His name was Vandole." in the intro, and Vandole is the emperor in this game. Coincidence? I don't think so.

  • You can play them in any order you want, but if you have enough time, I'd recommend playing the other mana games before you play Secret of Mana, because if you play Secret of Mana first, the other games will disappoint you.

  • Secret of Mana is one of my favorite games ever, and this is IMO, one of the best tracks in the game. I'm getting nostalgic just hearing this track. I remember early in the game, I used to go to Undine's cave just to hear this tune while I killed Iffishes to level up my magic and weapons.

  • @TheUnpromisedOne

Undine's cave was a great place to level up early on in the game. I remember the first time I played the game and first heard this tune as a young girl. This tune is the first song in the game that really sets a serious tone. The game suddenly goes from being a neat video game to a mystical and urgent adventure in Undine's cave. It is a more beautiful tune than most other games at the time had.

  • These games are epic.....

  • This is one of my favorite SOM songs. More and more, I'm wishing Square would notice this game and remake/rerelease it.

  • Nah, SE would just tarnish it. Leave it as it is and let it have its glory (somewhat of a reason why I wouldn't care if we didn't get anymore Chrono games. The Mana series dropped quite a bit after the SNES...)

  • this is i think one of the best tunes of the complete ost.

still som has the best soundtrack of all times, but this is the one that always makes me shutter. its desperate, it has happiness and hope, and yet it is so very very sad, and you know that all will be worse from now on, hope shimmers softly.

  • You know, when you play the game, you don't really get to listen to the later part of this which is a shame :(

Still, it is some of the best music out there.

  • I like how this track sounds like a ringing bell at one point.

  • I will close my eyes listen to this hole soundtrack and love it twice as much.

    nostalgic!

  • If I ever explore a cave and find a spirit that wants to give me magical powers, then this song had better be playing in the background, otherwise it won't be worth it.

  • EXACTLY! :)

  • HA!

    Yes!

  • Comment removed

  • this still gives me chills

  • "No one can stop me now."

  • 1 of the best video game soundtracks of all time

  • the memories...amazing

  • memories......

  • *goosebumps* This is simply majestic.

  • One of the best music tracks of this game

  • "One day your mana sword will become more powerful than any magic"

  • "...and I'm going to teach the two of you how to use MAGIC!" -Undine
