Hi, I just bought a 4 months old IRN :) and my boyfriend has a cockateel, we are trying to make them friend but his bird is 2 years old and a little bit agressive haha what should we do??
Im afraid of his "biting phase" What should I do when it comes??
We got Hoogie when he was approx 8 weeks old, from a breeder who hand raised him. As such he is very attached to us. And yes Hoogie has gone through the biting phase, as all ringnecks do, and in fact he still show that behaviour once a year! The good thing is that he is very good otherwise and also he hasn't bitten any visitors yet!
Hoogie is gorgeous!! We have a female cockatiel and were thinking to add a ringneck to the family, but we've heard so many negative things about ringnecks. Its nice to know that not all of them are mean. Did you handraise him? Has he ever bitten a visitor? Did he ever go thru a biting phase? Any advice on keeping them tame would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
love the video! I have two Blue IRN's they are intelligent but i've only had them a few weeks, the pet shop said theyre about 6 +months, very unprofessional shop! theyre both still very timid of me when i come close but they are always interested in me when i'm in the room. how do you guys deal with this kind of shyness?
I LOVE these indian ringnecks - I have a blue one like that - he's only 8 months old and very sweet. Can't wait till he starts talking. My green one that's about 1 year old says, peek a boo, pretty bird, and what cha doin? already. They are incredibly intelligent.
The Indian Ringneck Parrot (aka Indian Ringneck Parakeet).
Although Officially Classified as a Parakeet - Indian Ringnecks are True Parrots.
Indian Ringnecks are comical, very intelligent, and make great pets. They learn quickly and love to be the center of attention.
Arguably, the Indian Ringneck's talking a...bility is superior to every bird except for the African Grey. They are able to pronounce words with amazing clarity and easily compete with Quakers and Amazons.
Well no they are generally not aggressive at all, at least not for Hoogie (my Blue IRN). Hoogie really "bonds" with my wife, but wen I'm around he won't attack or bite me, just that he he has a choice he will always go to my wife first! -:( Actually he's fine with us both, just that he prefers the Mrs!
Hi, I really want a Blue IRN but i wana know: Do they Bond to the one person then when the another family member or a friend goes near them while the bird is outside of it cage will it bite them?
Well, for a start, both of them are males. And Hoogie is definitely the more talkative one, as Spike doesn't talk - he only whistles.
I wouldn't really use the word aggressive, as neither of them are aggressive outright. However, I must say that Spike is more bossy one of the two -:)
how do they get along so well ? i have a female Ringneck and a Cockatiel too but they hate each other....and what do you feed them they look so healthy ?
Well, the do have their fair share of fights.. Hoogie the IRN tends to be more "affectionate" and usually wants to get near Spike the Cockatiel, but Spike sometimes doesn't like it..! :) But overall they get along OK.
I feed them mainly cockatiel seed mix, supplemented with cockatiel pellets. They also have some of our "human foods", i.e. cooked rice, vegetable, eggs etc.
they are better than house alarms sometimes, nothing can get in our backyard without them going off, a tennis ball over the fence or our dogs too close to them, anything out of the ordinary and theyre off!! LOL, hoping to get a good "clucth" this year and hand raise one for our self.
we have a 16yr old cockatiel too.
if you see my vid "shooting the .58cal black powder" you can clearly hear mine going off in the background, they didnt like the dogs LOL
That's pretty cool..! Definitely can hear them going off in the background of your video! LOL... And yeah, mine is sometimes noisy, but overall very pleasant! Agree it'sdefinitely better than the house alarm!
some people think its creepy but i like how they can make the pupils of thier eyes shrink right down when they want, reminds me of dinosuars or something.
lol Spike is just like...meh

@christinecassin No the white bits that you are seeing are white feathers/downs - the ones on the back of his neck is part of his "ring".

Lol! It seems spike is overtalked by Hoogie!
You have very gorgeous birds, do you know which one is more agressive, male or female, and which one is usually more talkative?

not wrong they're noisy! we breed them,
