@SFFOOL76 the reason Georgetown didn't play well against n.c. state and duke is because Charles Smith had the flu. I can almost guarantee they would have beat Duke had he been healthy. Also, as I recall that Duke was a 2 point game late and won on free throws. Don't really see that as an a** kicking.

All I know is that Georgetown was great in the regular season and big east tournament. However in this tournament they played "not to lose" and was tenative the whole time. They barely beat princeton , notre dame played them tough, n.c. state outplayed them, and duke kicked their ass. I honestly miss those days of college basketball, late 1980's early 1990's.

The ref has his hand up in a fist when he makes the call...a closed fist signals a foul. If it was a travel he would have an open hand....he called the foul, saw it was Mourning, which would have been his fifth, and changed the call so he could stay in the game....I'd bet alot of money thats exactly what happened

nc state actually had a chance in this game to win it till that really bad call on corchiani,that wasnt travelling,but even if they had won they wouldnt have beaten duke.duke just beat nc state a few weeks earlier by 25.

State and Duke split that year. State won the game in Raleigh. I think it would have been an epic match-up, but we will never know thanks to the worst call in the history of the NCAA tourney!

it wouldnt have been an epic matchup.duke and unc were head and shoulders above everybody in the acc at the end of the year and that was proved at the acc tournament.duke would have blown out nc state like they did at the end of the year on senior day at duke.duke didnt have danny ferry in raliegh and still nc state struggled beating duke.

georgetown was the best team in the country that year.but played one of the worst halfs of ball in that second half against duke,and they still almost pulled it out.Again bias officiating helped duke. But the key stat was bryant&jackson combined for 4 points in that game,4!in this game they combined for 38. villanova beating g-town was a fluke in 85' but duke beating g-town in 89' was just as big a fluke..still feels fishy all these years later...and i lost some serious bread.

calling duke a fluke shows how stupid you are since they went to the final four every year back then,and nc state was nowhere near as good as duke was this year thats why bryant and jackson had 38 and only 4 against duke,it was a much better defensive team with duke,i dont see you mentioninh how laettner and henderson and ferry all almost had 30 points each and that being the reason why they beat the hoyas you fool.
