Get a french press made specifically for camping. They are made very resistant to breakage and you can store your coffee grinds, sugar and whitener inside when not in use. Makes a superior cup of coffee and its compact. Go to the Mountain Equipment Co-op website and search for coffee press.
LOL I'll do all sorts of things for coffee to start too- yesterday at work my coworkers hid the coffee and it's freezing here, I was not thrilled- I found it but then they had no cream.. sigh.Had to drink it with just sugar. Oh well. I love that you took the coffee maker camping,at least you didn't have a grinder( like in City Slickers, that was on yesterday too!)
I bet Cindy loved that. If Chadley did that I would never let him live it down. ;-) I hope you have one of those rechargeable battery charger thingies
I go back to using the iMovieHD that came with my first Mac in 2005. I like the program despite some of its limitations, and I'm very used to it :) Once the video is edited, it gets compressed to the highest quality setting for iSight. The whole thing then gets imported to iMovie08 where it gets converted to 9:16 format, and it gets published directly to YouTube. This video was the last one compressed to mp4 before importing. From now on I plan to use larger files for higher quality...
Aha. I use Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and also render my videos in mp4 (H264). This gives the highest quality for youtube (in this editing program) short of rendering direct to AVI which gives enormous filesizes. I always render with the format set to 1280x720, then when it get's played on youtube (using firefox) it auto jumps to almost full screen.
640x360 in .mov format is what I get at the end of the whole process. In fact, that's the highest quality choice I get for publishing to YouTube directly when I import a video to iMovie08 that was already edited. I get the 1280x720 choice if I import my AVI directly from the camera and edit with 08, but I hate editing in 08 because it gives me NO creative control. Everything in that program is automatic, and it never does what I want it to do...
I could use a weekend of camping right about now, but it will have to wait until sometime in May or June. It's just great to be out in the woods for some R&R...
I went to a second hand store and bought a campfire perolator for the camp stove/fire, 12 cups 2 bucks and about 100 gallons of coffee later its still working great. I am also one who believes in making due with what you have though! Nice video.
I knew by 1:00 that I wanted to go camping with you and Cindy one day. The coffee in my video is perfect for this, Andy, and it tastes pretty good. It should, though, for two bucks a pop (I'm a cheapskate). For me, when I'm camping I like coffee from a pot over the fire. There's just something about the taste that goes with camping, but not if it's been on the fire too long. :O
The trouble with cooking and making coffee on an open fire, I find, is that the pot always gets black and it's a pain to clean it afterwards. The other problem is that not all campsites have those convenient grills on their firepits. Fortunately, coffee is not the main focus on a camping trip...
Betty, any time you can make it up here in summer we'd be glad to have you along with us!
Well, I could either read a book or a magazine or watch videos, but most campgrounds are out of wireless or cell phone range, so it's down to reading or editing... I have done some very nice editing while surrounded by nature :)
We use to camp every year up at Lake Alpine,CA. Oh how i miss those Big Old Brown Bears :D One yr. A Bear broke our car window to get our dinner (beef steak) Scary.... I love your set-up....
We did see a bear on that trip, but he was a baby and sitting on the roadside when we were on our way back from camping. We haven't had any trouble with bears while camping... yet.
How about some trucker coffee, Furn broke my pot so now I'm using a coffee press even though I have a new pot now I like this better It makes a good tasting cup of coffee it would be awesome for your camping trips boil the water dump in some grounds and use the screen thing to plunge them to the bottom. YUM! I noticed in England a lot of people had those in there houses as well as B&B's I stayed in.
The press thing is a really good idea. One of these years I will break down and get one. As it is now, I don't even drink coffee at home, preferring to get some on the way when I'm already at work...
Oh, my insides are ruining themselves now. I have to quit drinking beer and eating most of the foods I like because my diabetes has gone out of control...
drip coffee; 1 rounded tsp. per 1 cup water... "that will have to do"... I know what that means hahhaa..... or you can make cowboy coffee, throw the grounds right in your hot cup of water //*u*\\ c.
Good idea! This video is more about making do with what you have already rather than going out and getting more equipment just for that one mug of coffee. We are typically already overloaded with lots of junk when we go camping :)
Right now, I'm in a taxi in a parking lot in Victoria, British Columbia... In the video we were at a campground next to Lizard Lake on the 16'th of July, 2008. That's near Port Renfrew on Vancouver Island...

LOL A grinder would have really been pushing it :)
I'm changing a lot of my eating and dietary habits these days
in the interest of getting my diabetes back under control...

Camping WITHOUT hot coffee on hand or the ability to edit is just cruel and unusual self punishment in my book.
:-)

Editing will really be difficult without beer. I can do without coffee, but this is a major big lifestyle change...

I get good ideas for editing while camping. The surroundings bring on creativity better than my living room does...

Oh, that makes good sense.
What do you use to edit with btw?

That percolator would go great on my propane cooker. Cindy likes to shop, so I'll mention it to her next time she checks out the thrift shops...

Wow you have a lot of gear there for a camping trip! I hope you had a nice time!:)

If not for me being a minimalist when it comes to camping we'd have to load two vans instead of one. Cindy doesn't know how to travel light :)
We usually have good times when we go camping. I will put up some more videos from that trip and others :)
