This is one of those concentrated "45 moments" where a universe is created and you never forget it. Good singing, good playing, good engineering....and no matter how long music exsists, this will blow the dust off anything and make whaterver is offered afterwards seem pretty tame....unless it is from the same period.
you call someone crazy, bobby lewis made me fall crazy over him after spending a lot of personal time with him,lol i learned today he died last year,my heart is broken yes the year was 1969 but the memories he placed in my heart will live as long as i do,so please be careful of what you say to hurt other people,if you knew him on a persenol basics you would not say crazy about a man who treated me like a queen,i only wish it had lasted a life time sad in lou, ky.
what does Indians, political views, grammar, and the question of whether or not a person or persons is/are dumbass(es) have to do about a song about how a man cannot get his girlfriend off his mind?
Absolutely nothing, so please make like a tree and leave.

My band "The Imperials Rock N Roll Combo" backed up Bobby Lewis at several gigs in 1963. That was real music, no crazy Efx, just play the music! Where did the time go?
@lynfendleyfoster I COMPLETLY AGREE WITH YOU! I'VE ALWAYS LOVED THIS TYPE OF MUSIC. WHEN IT TOUCHES EVERYONE REGARDLESS OF AGE!
The biggest hit of Bobby Lewis' career. #1 on the Top 40 charts and the Rhythm & Blues charts. It was also the #1 song of 1961. Peter Criss (KISS) would do a remake of this hit in 1978. I saw KISS in June 1979 at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia, SC. They performed this.

What did this have to do with "American Graffiti"? It wasn't used in the movie. Also, the "Babbyyy- babbyyyyy" opener wasn't on the original 45. It just started with "I could'nt sleep . . ." Surely, you can lie better than that.
I love this kind of music and the 50s era. I wanna own a vintage Greaser leather jacket and a poddle skirt. XD I used to watch Happy Days all the time. I was SO happy when the boy from happy days was casted into this movie. I dance the twist and swing all the time with my friends even at ska/punk rock concerts but i dont care about the stares i get sometimes im applauded.
First heard it in the West-End-Club on Westendstrasse in Frankfurt. Swinging scene, in those days. It even got a mention in EBONY, one time. I was older, 24. But age ain't nothin' but a number.
@draxx77 What is this about? Why is it the white man is American and the black man African? They are both Americans. When they say go back to Africa how about the white man going back to wherever they came from in Europe? Everyone in America is a foreigner - except for the origianl "Red Indians", who have all but disappeared. Let us not forget it.

@macTN Listened to this version, his voice is terrible, backing singers not too bad. He cannot get away from the blue format simply by adding the messy guitar and the noisy drums.
What are you talking about? Do you have any idea at all what this music is about? "Gett away from the blue format"? If this kind of music is called "rhythm & BLUES, why would he try to get away from the blue format? "Voice is terrible"? Why? Not white enough for you? Stick with Elvis. You'll be happier.
@hwgray You've got this all wrong. I play sax so am a musician, and I teach music and sax. However, if you read further back you will see I replied to an earlier message posted by macTN, and it was to that version by someone else I was referring to in my message. Don't jump to conclusions. I absolutely love this version, of which I have a copy of an album called "honky tonk", and which features r&b singers of the late 50s early 60s. And I do not like Elvis!!
@draxx77 The song was written by two white guys one of whom was given encouragement by Bobby Lewis when he and his group was to perform at the Apollo Theatre prior. Apparently later Bobby ran into the guy again when shopping for record labels and came to Beltone.
When I hear this song, I can see my mother in the livingroom dancing and having a great time. She would "trick" the record player so the song would play over and over and over and over!!! hahahaha Classic memories
Did they remaster this song in recent years, adding "Baby baby" at the start? Isn't this here the way it was played in 1961? this one is mastered much better. Don't need "digital remasterig" much.
Crbdudeman, did you need something to blog about? Is that why you talk shit to people who have done nothing to you? You have no real friends in life so you have to make something up to make you look cool in order to keep your myspace friends. Get over your fucking self.
Go sit back and listen to Pink and think its "hardcore punk" you fucking little prick. I am sick of people starting shit just becaues your feeling pissy today.
Im in the process of using this for a mini horror movie ive been working on. This is at the start of my movie, were the main villian cant get this certain girl off of his mind, and while this song is playing, goes and kidnap's her then tortures her
This song is actually about him (R. Lewis) and his girl "switching sexual positions" all night long. This is a song about a purely physical fling during the summertime. This is NOT about some guy staring at the ceiling all night because he can't shake the cute smile of the gal he just met! LOL
Yeah I bet you are. You go to shows and get the fuck beat out of you because you can't handle hardcore punk. You don't know anything. The word "emo" in your screen name says more. Ignoramus. But the fact that you know about this song says something, I'll give you that.
@XoNicolemoX lol! I'm a 20 year old Bluegrass Boy, and I still love and respect classic rock! Even though many rockers don't respect my music. Little do you all know, that the great father of bluegrass is the FIRST thing you'll see when you go into the Rock 'n' Roll music hall of fame!lol!
This is great rhythm and blues. The meaning - the first line is "Baby, baby, you did something to me" and then he can't sleep. Cant get her out of his mind.
WOW!!! To me this is pure splendour. I have missed this kind of music for many, many years. Awesome to hear. Looking at the old cars Im asking myself how much theyd be worth today.
I lived the 50's and 60's, was a much better world back then, ended up in nam in 71-72, sure miss the friday night sock hops at the high school gyms, and the saturday night dances at the VFW, 55chevy,, 57 chevy, 64 chevelle SS, and Pabst blue ribbon beer
i envy you, just because your so lucky to live in the age where everyone danced & had fun, where these days kids pick on others for the way they dance.. its sad really for what the world has come too
thank you for your service...I am 43 years old and used to listen to this music on the oldies stations while working as a teenager. I really miss this music. It was the best! Now there are NO stations that play 50's and early 60's music. My Uncle was in DaNang from 69-72..1st Marine Division.
Same here Jechez1965, as a teenager the music of that era didnt apeal to me that much. I remember back in 1980 there were 2 oldies shows here in town. One was call Saturday Night at the Oldies and the other one call Nostalgic Rock.
Oceanside California.
You can go to AOL Radio; there you can find some cool oldies stations.
I was 11 years old and living in the east end of London, England, when this fabulous record was played to me by my older brother, a pioneer rock-n-roller who was finding and bringing American good stuff to foggy London. Thanks for transporting me back. Brilliant!
This song roared up the pop charts and made the summer vacation of 1961 ABSOLUTELY phenonenal. The song leaped into almost every decent party, sock hop, picnic, and beach barbecue. Once we heard Bobby Lewis sing out: "Babyyyyyyyyyyyyy, Babyyyyyy, you did something to me...." we would scream with approval and start twistin' and doing the Pony. The summer of '61 was another awesome time to be young or young at heart. Thanks for the memories!

anybody remember what life was like back in 1961? I love to hear your stories. I was born in 1968 but feel I am in the wrong decade. I love things nostalgic. Cars, fashion, music, movies, technology. I hate todays society completely. It's too advanced.
Yes. I was 5 years old in 1961. I remember air raid drills in school. They'd sound the alarm and we'd go to the basement. I would sit by the window to watch for the Russian planes.
My mom drove a beat up 54 plymouth that had a hole in the floor. My sister and I would bring a handfull stuff with us to drop through the hole in the floor then turn around and watch it bounce down the street. Cheap entertainment!
I have it on a old LP called "Cruisin' 1961. If you find them, it's in a serie of LPs from '56 to 62. It's radio as it was then. Hit songs,. radio commercials, jingles, DJ chatter. The host here is Boston's own Arnie ""WOO WOO" Ginsburg, the citys no 1 DJ from'56 to '67. The show was called Night Train. Arnie was viritually a household word in the New England area. Bobby Lewis had one of the biggest hits of '61 with this one. He was born February 17, 1933, in Indianapolis. He was a DJ and...

Yeah I bet you are. You go to shows and get the fuck beat out of you because you can't handle hardcore punk. You don't know anything. The word "emo" in your screen name says more. Ignoramus. But the fact that you know about this song says something, I'll give you that.
crbdudeman 2 years ago
Way to stereotype.
I actually don't go to concerts because I'm going to school and getting a good education for myself, so no I am not ignorant.
I don't go to shows for that exact reason; I don't want to be beat up.
And 'emo' is actually not apart of my screen name.
My name is Nicole and I share my account with my friend Michelle and Oliver. So as you can see, that is where the 'M' and 'O' comes from.
Stop starting stuff with random people when you don't know shit all about them!

@XoNicolemoX lol! I'm a 20 year old Bluegrass Boy, and I still love and respect classic rock! Even though many rockers don't respect my music. Little do you all know, that the great father of bluegrass is the FIRST thing you'll see when you go into the Rock 'n' Roll music hall of fame!lol!

what type of this song ?
cheryderek 2 years ago
This is great rhythm and blues. The meaning - the first line is "Baby, baby, you did something to me" and then he can't sleep. Cant get her out of his mind.

i envy you, just because your so lucky to live in the age where everyone danced & had fun, where these days kids pick on others for the way they dance.. its sad really for what the world has come too

thank you for your service...I am 43 years old and used to listen to this music on the oldies stations while working as a teenager. I really miss this music. It was the best! Now there are NO stations that play 50's and early 60's music. My Uncle was in DaNang from 69-72..1st Marine Division.
jchez1965 2 years ago
Same here Jechez1965, as a teenager the music of that era didnt apeal to me that much. I remember back in 1980 there were 2 oldies shows here in town. One was call Saturday Night at the Oldies and the other one call Nostalgic Rock.
Oceanside California.
You can go to AOL Radio; there you can find some cool oldies stations.
Classicguy66 2 years ago
Try live365 internet radio, like the AM radio Gold station in the Oldies category.

It's too advanced.
yohnrob 2 years ago 2
