  • surf it!

  • Hm:) Katy: This is off the hook man:O

    Me: No.

  • what causes this??

  • @coolsims94 There are extreme differences in high and low tide. So when high tide comes in, it looks exaggerated. This only happens in 2-3 places in the world, this is one of them.

  • i was luking n luking...y thr was no surfer?oh shit...no wonder...jz 1 meter high?

  • its a government conspiracy to cull the population.

  • god damn. shut up people. YAP YAP YAP YAP YAP!!!!

  • @kandiman7979 ya, those two bitches hv to br fr hong kong with their obvious accent. They spoke cantonese and just couldn't keep their bloody mouth shut.

  • Boring

  • @adrianocoolboy your mom is boring. teach her to deep throat already

  • They are tired of living on earth

  • I was there at the Eclipse. Paled into insignificance in comparison. Total anticlimax. Waited around for hours and hours for a 1 metre high wave. Woo-frickin-hoo.

  • Comment removed

  • Yes - I'll also be watching the eclipse from this area on July 22nd - I'll be down to the estuary over the next couple of days and hope to catch THE WAVE!

  • Holy Sh#t !! Its great to view but not a nice feeling if the wave started hitting the banks splashing water everywhere.

    Again Good View !!

  • to sk8ordie1011..hmm....I watched the vid a couple times and didn't hear any "crazy ass noises". .And why so down on Asians? , ya gotta admit Asian chicks are some of the hottest on the planet ; - )

  • thatt's why china is the real number 1 in the world. and asian knocks out hatton, mexicans and next floyd gayweather

  • Tidal boring is more like it.

    Nobody died or anything....

  • what you like death?

  • is that all ?

  • lol that's cuz those ppl are REALLY far away from the waves. every year there are ppl who died from it because they came too close

  • racist

  • wow those people make so much noise

  • Popcorn.......get your popcorn!

  • this is not in Hangzhou, there is only a lake there...

  • south of Hangzhou, Qingtang River

  • Tidal bore is not because of moon gravity. But because of energy of the water. It's controlled by the subcritical region. Need to study hydraulics to understand this. Basically water does not hv enough space to flow freely so the only way is to go upward like waves.

  • You're half right. It only happens during a king tide which of course is caused by the moon's gravitational pull. The wave is caused from the incoming water from the rising tide, hitting the river which is flowing the opposite way and since it has nowhere else to go, it goes up.

  • Not actually correct about how often it happens in the case of the larger tidal bores. This one occurs on every single tide, but obviously it is at its biggest on the spring tides close to the equinoxes. Currently being surfed by Brad Gerlach and team. I have also heard a rumour that surfing world distance record holder ,Sergio Laus is there to try for a new record.

  • it also can happen around the time of a tolat solar eclipse, because the moon is in line with the sun, and closer to earth in its orbit (longer eclispes, also help, as they are more in line with the equator), the gravitational pull of the moon is in line with the pull of the sun, making the larger tide.

(I am going to be seeing july's eclipse in china, which will be followed by a tidal bore, which I hope to upload video of, but I probably wont be able to upload till late august)

  • Plz let me know when you upload that.

    Enjoy

  • i am going too to see july's eclipse in hangzhou. c u there ?

  • I dont know where the tour I am going with will be for the eciplse though.

  • IMPRESSIVE

  • HOw do these tidal bore waves actually occur? Is it by the pull of the moon.

  • in 1 day during the year, the tide is especially high, up to 9 METERS high, and it's a tide thats funneled by the bay and causes the whole river to flow backwards for just a few moments

  • wow there must be some impressive underwater streams

  • For a regularly occuring natural phenomenon, this is actually quite BIG....between 7 and 9 feet high and up to 4 miles wide at its greatest, and this is something that happens SEVERAL times a year! Some might not be impressed, but I am!!.....I have wanted to see this..(it used to get called "the miracle wave of hangchow" in old books)...since I was 10,.. 36 years ago!!

  • yeah wellyou were clearly smarter when you were one

  • you could if you wanted to look like a complete dipshit

  • Could you ride a raft or tube on that?

  • No. An experienced tidal bore surfer tried to ride it back in the 80s and lasted 11 secs before both him and the support vessel were swamped..all survived but ..brown pants time!

Last year a french/Brasilian team surfed it for over 10 miles, but that was further upstream, where the wave is cleaner and a good deal smaller.

  • 67 documented tidal bores world wide. i am the expert . several i undocumented i have discovered on my oun. i am the tidalboreman

  • good for you, fagmonster

  • Bore is right....... Ive had more fun cutting me toenais than watching that.

  • Qiantang River, China, which has the world's largest tidal bore, up to 9 metres (30 feet) high, travelling at up to 40 km per hour (25 miles an hour)

  • coool

  • This is the Qingtang River. I live right next door to it. The Qingtang is somewhat wide, but is a muddy, dirty river, surrounded by apartment buildings, urban sprawl and nothingness.

Chinese are amused about anything. Any stupid thing entertains them. There are thousands of people on the riverbank of a dirty river watching a rish of muddy, polluted water coming towards them. Weird. Welcome to China.

  • You see it everyday, of course you are not amused, so are the locals. But not those from elsewhere, who have never seen this before. Qiantang river is of course muddy, this is actually related to the tidal bores.

  • You should have noticed that the people speaking on the video are from Hong Kong/Guangdong (as they speak Cantonese). I therefore suspect most of the poeple watching this are not from your area, but are tourists.

  • This thing looks just like tsunami.

  • its like a surgo of water thts wat we call them at my grandpas house theyre not like tht tho theyer just i little surge of water or just like 5 big waver or sumthing

  • cantonese FTW!

  • Classic video. The untamed bore! Awesome power!

  • wow, amazing.

  • such an annoying language

  • wow

  • Someone sometimes dies during this event!!!

  • This is a tidal-bore, not to be confused with tidal-wave (tsunami).

  • well actually a tidal bore is a tidal 'wave'... Tsunami's are actually created by the displacement of huge bodies of water such as the sea and has nothing to do with the tide

  • This is definately a tidal bore. It is caused by tides.

  • oe more speciffically, tidal bores are caused by the culmination of the sun and moons aligned gravitational forces...

  • Great footage of the hangchow bore!! one of the most spectacular natural events in the world!! amazing that it happens several times a year!! and people flock to see it. Even have a bore-watching festival-Brilliant!!

  • A... literal... tidal... wave maybe? :O

  • Doesn't the water recede to build a tidal wave? And what's up with all the people lining up against the rails? Something had to be up.
