Honestly, who buys a G8 for the reason of fuel economy??? Its like being upset your Toyota Prius has terrible quarter mile times. What was the reason you bought it for??
I bought the G8 because I wanted performance, size and 4 doors for under $30k. It's was a great deal.
My old car, a 1993 Ford Taurus with the 3.8L, would only get about 19 MPG, and that's if I'm careful with the throttle on the highway. And, the car was always maintained so that's not the problem.
My pop's old 1990 Chevrolet Suburban with the 5.7L V8 got better gas mileage on the highway than my old car by about 1 MPG, despite the fact that it's a huge, heavier truck with an engine having two more cylinders and larger displacement.
I saw this video on the National News. It had nothing to do with GM or Pontiac. Strictly the owner was ripping thew gas station off because of an error with the pump. However I live in California and my car requires premium so I understand that gas is expensive sometimes. But why steal it?
15/24 for a 6.0 V8 is, IMHO, pretty damn good. I would not complain if I had a G8 GT not only because you're getting performance with decent economy, but you also get a fast, powerful car without having to pay a gas guzzler tax.
I rented a G8 GT a few weeks ago while out of town on business. I was thoroughly impressed with this car in every aspect. And on a 60 mile easy highway drive running between 55-60, I recorded 28 with this car. On a faster 75 mph trip, I recorded 25. Nothing wrong with that.
Who buys a V8 with some balls and cries about MPG? Slap yourself and get a Prius- I hear theyre good this time of year.

It's got a 6 liter V8 in it what do you expect?
chrisuperfly 3 years ago 2
Actually, I would expect WORSE MPG.

Nice.
Muscle AND economy. It's a winning combination!

I agree 100%. I own an '09 G8 GT and get 14 mpg, all my driving is done in the city though.
Its got a 6L V8 in it though its not going to get the mileage of a 4 banger.
Its like the people that live in Minnesota or Maine that buy a car like this then get pissed because it doesnt handle well in snow...

And, of course, another nice thing: premium fuel is not required, though this does exact a performance penalty.

There IS a gas guzzler tax on them :( I know. Unless it's just the GXP... Mine was 1800
xanariacc 2 years ago
That sucks, but as far as I know, the tax is only on the GXP.
This may change, however, with the possible raising of fuel efficiency standards.
