  • Damn!! This is the most talented guitarist i have ever seen in my life!!!!! This guy freakin' rips it!!! A master of guitar indeed.......

  • lol ppl commenting this as bad just because there are other guys saying the same. think for ur own ppl. watch the whole video and u will see he builds something funky. not the best lesson. but dont be assholes

  • Funk you... too bad

  • WTF???????

  • oooops i thought this was funk ???? must have pressed on wrong video...... reggee... disjointed chords & unhelpfull instrutions i found here

  • This is by far the most unhelpful video I have ever seen. I think its in this guys best interest to find a different genere hes much better at to teach.

  • What kind of pick ups r those??

  • @Yozo84 Seymour Duncan must be.. His guitar looks like a G&L Invader

  • F U

  • fuck this shit

  • he is baking something! and it dont smell like funk!

  • This is just pathetic.

  • Are u boiling potatoes while showing us?? maybe baking?

  • pretty bad timing tbh

  • ! that's insane

  • put me to sleep thanks a lot

  • Me too! I'd rather watch Sesame Street on PBS - snowy channel and all!

  • he isn't the best guitarist himself, but the info is good. A good funk guitar is all about timing and rhythym

  • Which he lacks.

  • uhh man do you know what your doing??

  • you look like sonny (a bronx tale)

  • mainly not in time :D don't learn funk by this tut guys!

  • nice job. A key thing mentioned in this video is timing. Very informative video.

  • wow this sux!

  • not time at all

  • Amico, stai sempre fuori tempo... ma come devo fa io con te...

  • u r a funky idiot!!!

  • Hey! sorry but have U ever heard 'bout timing!!!

  • Hey guys, watch his video named funkolection.

  • sound very bluesy SRV used that chord every day

  • osm

    thanks

    :D

  • ...oookaayy...

  • mmm

  • gnl guitar...cool...

  • wow by the basics you mean the absolute complete basics....

    ps not very funky

  • poor guitar...

  • he sounds more fusion than funk

  • This is called tenor funk, it's cool as you play 10 or 12 miles away from everyone else (:

  • He kind of makes me think of Kumar.

  • u look alot like mr.bean

  • that's true!!!!

  • listen mate , this guy has contributed to give his opinion about this type of music , and i think he has done a great job for beginners and i guess your not even in that level , you are good for gossiping and you are socks , buggers you off .

  • and wheres the funk? i just listen "cuack cuack cuack"

  • Ain't no funk to me!

  • You do not teach. You are confuaed. Try something else.

  • go get a life.

  • Terrible. One chord is all he knows<

  • a good example of how hard it is to play funk.

everyone seems to underestimate it. the stunning number of videos on the topic proves it.

two out of one hundred get it right.

  • which two?

  • somebody get this guy a cup of cofee

  • bobo!!

  • Thx for your play.

I'll copy your chords and play stlye :-)

  • LMAo u cnt xplain funk! it just is

  • it`s out of rhytm wtf?

  • poop

  • it's a good lesson for beginners, good job.

  • you suck my friend ty but this is not good

  • Very good, clear, instruction; well done, helpful...thanks!

  • dude, you strum the strings at the body not at the neck

  • as long as you hit the strings you can strum it howver u want lol

  • You SUCK - take your cheesy video down - Get a Clue!

  • riod4me, lets see you put up a better video.

  • god now my ears burn i've benn playing for only a year and im better than you

  • Hurano, you should put up a video of yourself giving a funk lesson. I'd like to see better :D. If you can't, then your full of shit!

  • o yeah. ur just playin the same not all the time!!! u should be teaching little kids that r learning!!!

  • u suck man. what the funk!!! there is no funk. u got no talent.

i can teach better and im 15!!!!

  • if ur trying to learn funk guitar dont learn of this guy u'll get into bad habits

  • helpful for new players - i can see how established players might say it's simple, but we all have to start somewhere and it's good fundamentals and the beats are consistent which is the goal in the beginning, so don't listen to the negative comments. and for those complaining, give the guy a break - he's fine - he's working hard on this stuff and making it available for all to learn, so maybe you should back off and let him teach and go find a video that's better suited for your level.

  • rbo... i feel embarrassed for you.

  • G&L<333 they are so nice

  • thanks, this is a pretty cool lesson.

  • What the funk? where is the funk? THERE AIN'T NO FUNK! some pleb trying 2 play chords on youtube...

  • Haha..he looks like Mr.BEan

  • ha-ha-ha)))) this is fucking shit))))))))))

  • what the fuck is this

  • ha-ha-ha)))) this is fucking shit))))))))))

  • ?????????????

  • wow this guy sucks ass

  • he should've rehearsed this lesson better

  • well yeah reggae is slower but, also ska can be slow.but what makes reggae.playing reggae, the beat is every 3rd an and the skank is a fast down pick attack.now, ska listin you hear singers say "picked it up fast" witch explain pick up not down...now, where i learned this is from my guitar teacher thats has played in a ska band and he plays in reggae punk band and also a funk band..so the dude know his stuff and that where i learn it from...

  • sounds more like a drunk hillybilly than anything ;]

  • you like men?

  • that was ska not reggae....ska is up beat reggae is the down beat...

  • where did you hear that?

ska and reggae both accent on offbeat. the difference is that reggae has regularly slower tempo.

  • funk?

  • Ok, he's probably not Tomo Fujita, but it's a good BASIC lesson, if you have already a better feeling for the funk rhythm, you don't need this lesson, if you're a beginner, you have to work out the details and practice a lot later -with other vids- anyway. He explains every step, then he plays it long enough to play the rhythm with him. And that's the only important thing for a basic lesson.

  • you don't have a faintest idea of what rhythm is, if you hear after you say 'reggae', you lose time a lot, baby.

  • You've succeeded in playing the exact same chord to 15 different beats.

  • did you get the part about basics of funk?

he's not here to teach someone who alreayd knows all the chords etc.. he's jsut doin the basic

  • He has no rythm at all. You need to get in the groove if you want to be funky.

  • this guy isnt funk hes fuck

  • For a start teaching he needs to be able to play on the beat which this guy cant, his wrist is too stiff, relax the wrist more and go for the 16th note approach at a slower tempo for beginners and use fretting hand muting. Do yourselves a favour and check out Jamiroquai on Youtube and check out Rob Harris the guitarist, thats how you play funk properly.

  • jamiroquai FTW!

  • I second that. James Brown anyone? Parilment? Hell even RHCP....Jamiroquai...lol

  • yeah theres lots. just that he talked about Jamiroquai up there so i said what i said. haha

  • omg.... it's not easy... ;( but it's cool!

  • nice, thanks.

  • thank you very much..

  • thanks for your video, it's really insipirative to the beginners learning funk like me!:)

  • Rhythm hand is too stiff. He needs to masturbate more lol. Good rhythm players play from the wrist. Watch Nuno Bettencourt play midnight express on U Tube.

  • I guess it would take me some time to get to Nuno's level :)

  • why the hell are you even mentioning nuno bettercourt's lame ass on a video about funk lessons?

keep in mind, we're talking about getting funky here, not playing lame power ballads

  • Listen mate. Nuno is the one of the best funk guitar players out there. He may have made one fantastic acoustic ballad but if you check out any of other his stuff you'll realise that he is easily the best rhythm player out there and one of the funkiest. Thats before he plays a note of lead!!

  • oh, you mean like "get the funk out"?

    that's not funk...

jimmy nolen, george johnson, and phelps collins are funk guitarists, not nuno. there's a vast difference between being a funk guitarist and a shred guitarist who puts the word funk into their song titles

  • I never said Nuno was a "funk" guitarist did I. I said he is a fantasic rhythm guitarist and that anyone wanting to become a good rhythm guitarist could learn a lot from Nuno. Anyone, I dont want to get into one of these "who's better than who" discussions cos thats gay.

  • "Nuno is the one of the best funk guitar players out there"

    you said it, not me...

  • He is one of the funkiest out there but he's not a "funk" guitar player but his style is funk based.

  • nah, it's hardly funky really. if you listen, you can tell it's more of a solo shred guitarists' take on how he thinks funk should sound

  • yeah nuno is no funk

  • I think everything is able to learn. As long as you want to.

I leaned metal by just simply listening to other people playing it and so just "stealing" their technics. that's how I started and still playing. more and more difficulty to make i still fun to perform.

  • i don't think that funk should be teached as a step by step thing. my humble opinion is that funk should only be felt, and by just listening to funk you'll learn it...

  • I think that funk can be teached, but the 'tutorial people' will never be able to play such good funk!

  • You're right but you have to have tallent for music if you want to feel it, people who don't got that much talent (there is nothing wrong with those persons) but still want to play the funk can learn it for example with video's..funk is possible to "explain" but something like jazz can't really be done..

  • youre absolutely right!

  • I'm a beginning blues guitarist and I have to say that I have learned alot from lessons but somehow you end up getting stuck at a certain level because you haven't learned to work by yourself.

And just like blues funk really is more of a "feel".

    True words...

  • use the backbeat but also try sliding chord down from 1/2 step higher or up from 1/2 lower

  • sure , there is so much more ,I should post them later on , Thanks...

    amibami.blogspot dot com

  • amibami, thanks for posting and explaining slowly and carefully!

  • Very nice; although its a bit hard to understand what you are saying sometimes, perhaps a thin black bar at the bottom with white subtitles would remedy this, you could also write out th chords you were saying, I believe you mentioned and A7 and an E9-? But it was somewhat unclear. But the repition cleared that up and clean playing, ty for the lesson!

  • The true grind of learning. Good Job

  • thanx :)
