@BALLERMIKE11 The best thing to do is visit a sports injury professional for assessment and treatment. In the meantime, rest from aggravating activities and apply ice to reduce pain and inflammation.

@Enmaleon You are best to speak to your Doctor about it, but after 6 months and with no pain then it should be ok. Just start very slowly and gradually increase.
@123harry4567890 dude!, dont worry, really !... im skating now like before and i do gaps and all thats stuffs again, i was so scary but its ok, just let time go and stay watching some skate videos cause when you start skating, you'l be the best brah, stay writing me if you wanna now more about that surgery and rehabilitation
sorry but i got a question how come my knee hurts alot when i am playing basketball and other sports like the lil ball of the knee it hurts like a bitch if i even touch it and its my left knee dnt noe why its hurting :(
@The1234567890brand Get an assessment from a professional. Whilst in cases of jumpers knee it is usually tender to touch, this may not be the case in the early stages.
After a knee popping injury 2 years ago i have had chronic bilateral knee pain. I have been told i have runners knee, is that the same as jumpers knee? it hurts when i jump, stand for a while, and walk a long distance.
@Jazeah00 No they are different things. Runners knee is iliotibial band syndrome where the pain is on the outside of the knee. Jumpers knee is patella tendonitis where the pain is under the knee.
@kimkebont It could be the patella tendon or it could be anterior knee pain caused by patella maltracking. It would depend on your exact symptoms. We always recommend seeking professional advice.
@sorrythanks Hi. It is unlikely that is it jumpers knee then. Pain is always under the knee in this case. It may be more of a patellofemoral pain syndrome. Search out videos for more on this!
Hey guys, im a 15 year old basketball player who got jumper's knee. Two weeks ago i visited a knee expert here in sweden. He's really good, people all around the world have come to him to get help with injuries especially sport injuries. He gave me four knee exercises and he showed me how to tape the knee.
Keep an eye on my channel i will upload a video of the exercises that he showed me and how to tape your knee.
@lildeion340 If its a long term problem then you need to find the cause of the problem and treat that. It can be a number of things, from overtight quad muscles, to overpronation at the feet etc. Get a biomechanical assessment if you haven't already.
thank u tht knee brace looks like it can do the trick but if dont can i have surgy on my knee to make the pains go away or will i just leave it alone and it would go away by it self
@lildeion340 You can use a jumpers knee strap to take the strain off the patella tendon to prevent it pulling on the bone so much. Or return2fitness.co.uk have a pro-tec the lift patella tendon sleeve which is a full knee sleeve with an additional patella strap.
any idea of time i should rest. I have awoken with this problem after playing VERY extended basketball last night. I had a back injury and had not played ina long time. The pain is OK if i walk but goin down stairs or jogging is very aggitating.
@pokerrich9 The amount of time required for rest/healing varies hugely dependant on the extent of the injury and the treatment applied. Find more info in the knee section of the site.
im not sure if i have osgood or tendinitis because the pain sometimes changes the location of where it hurts but does osgood get worse with activity becuz if not then i definately have tendinitis, the pain was so bad i could hardly do a slow jog...can help me out plz?
@tintorri10 How old are you? If you are in your teens then it is more likely osgoods. If you are older, then more likely patella tendonitis. Both can get worse with exercise.
@sportsinjuryclinic im 15 and i had an x ray and the doc said he didnt see any boney bump forming so it might be partial osgood and but could it be cuz i only had it for bout a month and it hasnt formed yet....he also said i have tendinitis but i think i its one more than the other and i dont know which one
@tintorri10 Honestly, it doesn't really matter which it is. The treatment for both conditions is much the same. Rest, ice, anti-inflammatories, quad stretching and then strengthening. Massage can help in both cases and ultrasound will do no harm.
@sportsinjuryclinic but with tendinitis it should start to completely go away as osgood can only be treated to be less painful untill ur out of ur growth spurt right?
@tintorri10 Yes you are right. Treatments for osgood schlaters are just aimed at easing the symptoms. It should go away on its own eventually. Whereas with patella tendonitis the condition must be treated for it to go away.
What's working for me is combating the pain with exercises of the quads. Seated leg lifts are good. Start with minimum weight and do not stop at the top but lift slowly, (15 reps 3 sets) Increase weight over time. You can do these with 5lb ankle weights. Hold squats are also go. Squat down slowly until you fill pain then hold for 30 seconds. Your leg will get stronger taking pressure of your patella.
Turns out both my patellar tendons were torn longitudinally, ended up needing surgery. Got surgery on both knees a little over a month ago. hoping to be completely healed come August for football season.
I have it to, and I'm 14. I do track and field, especially heptathlon, it came from high jump, i think -.- i have it for 6 months now and it doesn't seem to be better! I don't do any sports at the moment, I use creams like Voltaren or Traumeel and I take pills like Ibuprofen and Wobenzym but nothing works! It still hurts, even if I just stand somewhere. -.-
No surgery should only be attempted after an intensive period of rehabilitation and conservative treatment. Even then, surgery is not guarenteed to work!
@gonzo973 NO!! You dont need surgery...U just have to let it heal. I used to have it from running track and other sports but It took a good two months of rest, ice, heat, mild-stretching, and no sports to get it to calm down. the lump is still there but it gets smaller as it heals.
@cdawg3001 i got it when i was in like 8th grade im in 11th grade now... i never knew what it was until now- am i screwed? or can something still be done? it doesn't hurt or anything, it's just i can't lean on it
i also have/have got jumpers knee. I have gone to physiotherapist in many month and that didnt work much(it is also very expencive!). I have now tried acupuncture and I think that did work. Now I cant wait for start to run again, but im a littlebit scared that it will come back....
Hey guys try acupuncture. After the first acupuncture my pain was reduced to 50% after the second -> 25% and i already have it 8 months now. It is shocking how effectice chinese medicine is
I have this patella tendonitis too and i hate it! I play basketball and im training to become a personal trainer so its really going to slow me down for a while but hey.... i think whats best now is to rest and strengthen the leg muscles that mobilize the joint once im free from pain. Stretching twice a day helps too...
1st rest legs from any jump/running 4 1 week, icing knee for 20min, then heat immediately 4 20 min once in morning, once at night. Then find weightroom, do hamstring curls, and use quad machine for one week, and do calf raises. Start off the hamstring and quad machines with light weight and do 3 sets of them. Once you're able to do 20 reps straight, then move up the weight! Once you move up your 1st weight, then u can add leg presses(laying squat machine) to your workout. Stretches 15 sec each
I'm always jumping around when I play basketball, and I was always dunking before my knee got messed up. I'm pretty sure I have patellar tendonitis. Its really sensitive right below the knee cap where it meets the tendon. Also, it hurts a lot to get on hands and knees. My left knee is very sensitive to the touch. It gets especially sore if I've been exercising, then ride in the car or something where it can't straighten. You think this will help me?
broke my leg last yr in the summer, i ripped my patella along with a bit of bone. i have had a screw pinning it down since then and i have it taken out on friday!! :)+:( i've had physiotherapy
Hi just a quick question. I do high school track. and crosscrountry. It is track season now. I have been doing high hurdles. It my first season and am doing very well. The best in school. I also do distance running. My knee started to hurt really bad the day after a hard work out(not on hurdles). I went to the school trainers and they said it was tendonitis. Now i can jump. Is there any way i can help it heal better??? Thanks
Jumpers knee or patella tendonitis usually hurts directly underneath the knee cap, not to the side. I think it is probably something else, but would advise you to visit a sports injury specialist to find out.
When I walk or try to run, it hurts on the inside of my right knee. It is also a little bump there. Is this symptoms of Patella Tendon, or can it be something else?
Patella tendonitis is a degenerative condition of the lower part of the patella tendon - attaching the knee cap to the Tibia. It is often called jumpers knee because it is common in sports requiring lots of jumping and bounding movements. Can I ask where you had surgery? Local doctor basically googled it and came up wih nothing.
I heard about Dry Needling [sounds like fun hey] but no real details.
I had the surgery locally in the UK on the NHS. A lateral reslease of the patella tendon. One knee only - not both at the same time. I didnt think it was going to work for about 9 months. damn ive had this for about 3 years since 6th grade. it hurts like shit. i play bball and i cant jump and cant run fast because of it. im wondering if u need to have a surgery to cure it?
Had the same problem for 10 years(vball), stretching quadriceps and hamstrings helps me big time. When you feel the pain while playing bball go to the side and stretch.. You can have surgery but I think the problem will come back after a while.. I had Shockwave therapy, very painfull and didn't help me at all.. Hope this information will help you!

I had surgery on one knee and 9 months later it was fine - I could run 30 miles over mountains with weight on my back.
Someone else I knew had a slightly different operation on both knees at the same time and was not right for a few years after.
