she's soooo right that with a lot of protest music, it feels like being "preached to" ! bothers me, too. not every song has to have a political message or a shout out.
i wonder if she realizes she's articulating a very feminist ideology--the idea of speaking about personal, human experience in particular political contexts as a political phenomenon, in and of itself...the personal is political; that's feminism 101 (though probably stating it so overtly wouldn't sell very well...)
I always thought that she was this older and kind of crazy lesbian artist, but she is totally different. This is the first time that i googled her and also the first time seeing an interview on youtube. She's very toughtfull and intelligent.

Where PJ grew up, near Yeovil was a Liberal seat. It was in faxt for many years the seat of former Liberal leader Paddy Ashdowm. PJ's noTory, neither were her parents. Just because you were raised in the west country doesn't automatically make you a Tory.in your views.
Some people just can't even appreciate greatness when it's sitting right in front of them. This interview has all the finesse of a secondary school newspaper article. FFS a piece of wet cardboard could come up with a more genuine line of questioning... "Yeah yeah..." he says and moves on before she's even finished what she's saying...
What good is that.. Forcing yourself into something strange just because you don't want to make something similar to what you've done before. You shouldn't really be thinking of what particular kind of music you're going to make, just express that which you want to express in music.. If you're just thinking "yeah I can't do that, I've done that kind of music before, so I'll force myself to do this, even if I don't really feel like it." The music really suffers that way.
@jella11 I see what your point is but she's talking much about learning in all of her interviews. So I don't think she thinks about it very much, just discovering new ground. Like with White Chalk where she played an instrument she wasn't very familiar with (the piano).
So I don't think she lies awake at night thinking about what kind of music she's going to make. It's natural to her and why would you want to make the same song twice anyways?!

her music has become so unenjoyable :(
exploring is great but her first 6 albums (including the dance hall) showed that you can explore and still be perfect. whilst her latest albums have been just one big disappointment after another... i'm still always checking them out, for she used to be the best in the world :) something needs to happen.
@Pepper6464 re TeenageWidlife's comment that her parents are Conservative and loads of her friends are, she also comes from a very Tory area and has said she is pro-fox hunting, so might well be a secret Tory. Given how left wing the music industry is it would be a really bad move to admit it. Wouldn't do much harm to admit she was left wing. The fact she doesn't say therefore makes me think she might be a Conservative. Also, Labour are pretty much hated by farmers, so given her background...
@janotosinnumeros You'd think she'd want nothing to do with it since artists are really not involved in politics unless it's a cause that means something to them.
We love you PJ! I myself have been in love in with you since 1995! x

@m06een00 indeed the vast majority of the west country is lib dem territory. the rural Tories hardly exist anymore.

I wonder who she voted for if she did voted. It would break my heart if she's a closeted Tory.

@Pepper6464 she's mentioned in interviews that she has loads of friends who are Conservative. her parents are, despite their artistic tendencies.
