I'm this three star general (who is at the level of being in charge of armies, not bases) has the job of walking through each dorm on base? It clearly was a failure of the NCOs and Company commanders to take care of this problem. Of course, they might have reported it but not worked hard enough to fix it, until now where it's obvious to everyone.
well private.. it is up to all leadership to make sure barracks inspections are done. You are right that it is not his job. but it is his job to make sure it gets done.. and to relieve the ones not doing there job
....that's right... comissioned officers don't do barracks inspections. That is up to the non coms, the CSMs and the 1SGs all the way down to the team leaders. This guy is not a non com, count the stars.
with all due respect, when I was in the Air Force, we had CAFI, Commanders Annual Facility Inspection. The Base, and Wing Commanders would look at "everything", and if it wasn't clean, or painted, waxed and buffed, you was in the shit. Why can't Army CO's get off their fat bums and do the same.
Do you really need a field grade officers to handle barracks inspections? Obviously the non coms failed their troops here, but it was no big secret these barracks were in poor condition.
Your right, however, that was the way they did it. Granted, they didn't look at "every" building, but they did have officers that looked at barracks and such. Also, I agree about the non coms in this case. They need a good butt kicking as well.
