Cao Cao ransomed her because he was a good friend of her father. She was the wife of one of the Xiongnu chefs. Never could understand why she chose to abandon her sons and bothered to return to the wartorn China to marry someone else. But her poems are beautiful and break my heart every time I read them.

Women were hard to come by and the bride price for a good woman was high, that's why they often had to resort to kidnapping and it was necessary to keep productive women around. In the nomadic Hebrew culture, widows were handed to the brothers. Han China, on the other hand, held women cheaply and a man could buy many concubines.

Wen-Ji was born in late Han dynasty (177 A.D.). During the war, she was robbed by the minority "Xiong Nu" and became the wife of their king.
She lived there for 12 years and had 2 children, she missed her hometown all the time. After that period of war, the Premier of Han Dynasty "Cao Cao"
exchanged her back with a large fortune, she had to leave her children then with deep sorrow.
The poem described this experience of hers and her feeling.
