Hey Robbie, why dont u b little bit more wiser? U got a job and a date not coz u chant. LOL.. I am a buddhist and Lord Buddha had never said any of his follower to chant and crave for things. This is wrong way of practising Buddhisum. If u want to learn the pure buddhisum, learn from some Sri Lanka, Thailand or Burmies temple. Chinese, Tibet and Japanese have different practise than what lord buddha had said.

The Buddhism I practice is not the same as the school u practice. We believe in moderation in all things in life. The buddhism I practice is about daily life. Not fairy tale and fantasy and dogma. Our Buddhist practice is about finding happiness for ourselves and others around us. Nothing more. Nothing less. Learn about the Lotus Sutra.

I was in the UK (for my first time) in March of this year (2010). I'm also a ringer and I got to ring at a twelve bell ring in London, my first night! I'm also into electrified railways as well. Too bad I couldn't have had the opportunity to have met you (perhaps through the SGI-UK). One thing I must say that I am pleased with is that there is virtually no homophobia in Buddhism - especially within the Nichiren Sects! (Otherwise I most definitely would not even bother)! Keep chanting!

Anyone can practice buddhism, even gay people. If you say otherwise, then you must have misunderstood or have not read any of the buddhist teachings. The Buddha walked all over India giving his teachings to those who were willing to listen. He did not exclude anybody or discriminated anyone. I have grown as a person and see more from buddhism then sex, and material possession. We all grow as people, but noone grows and learns with out the help of others. Help people, dont put them down. That is what the Buddha would do.

You are absolutely right Peachescanterbury! That has happened to me numerous times. Most time when I pray hard for something, my prayers are often answered. However, there were few times when I didnt get what I prayed for. Strangely though, my faith never waver, I continued to pray and always end up getting something better than what I prayed for.
