@marcuslee3 The area that becomes dull during the sanding process should be completely polished, there should not be a dull area after the polishing is completed. If there is, the surface needs to be compounded (purple pad) and/or polished (black pad) for a longer period of time. Once the dull area is restored/polished, it should not "come back" and look dull after a wax has been applied and wears off.
@jonzo22 The scratch is actually removed, but we filmed this in our body shop here at the 3M Center and our lighting is not the best, which is why it looks like the scratch is there. The kit did remove the scratch and we encourage you to try the kit and let us know if you like it.
@3MCarCare1 i bought it and used it to take out scratch marks from my dogs claws when he jumped up on the car, it worked very good! makes the paint look better then before plus takes off the scratches. the car is a 95 so there are a few, just the thing is some are a little too deep to completely take out and im wondering how many times can i keep sanding until i actually wreck the paint?
@jonzo22 If the scratches are deep enough to feel with your fingernail, there are likely too deep to completely remove. However, you should be able to remove some of the scratch and make the scratch much less visible. You do want to be careful not to sand in one area too much. If you sand too much you risk sanding through the clearcoat, if this happens the area will require repainting.
What if the scratch appears to be showing metal in about as minor of a manner as possible but my fingernail doesn't catch? Should I go ahead and try it or not waste my time/money, and go to a shop?
@alextothehbro From our 3M tech expert...Any time that you have a scratch that goes to the metal, you have several options. One is to purchase a small touch up container for the color of your car and apply paint into your scratch, after the touch up dries you can polish the repair or option 2, If you have a compressor and spray gun you can apply our glazing and spot putty, prime and then paint. Option 3 would be to take it to a repair shop.
What do you do when the wax wears off? Does it show the dull area again once the wax is gone?
