  • The green bell pepper slices look like silly bands! :D

  • Hey Runny,

just made this dish for my family tonight and it was great. Thank you... can't wait to try some of the others.

  • I thought the curry roux was a huge chocolate. Lmfao.

  • Chocolate........in curry...?

  • @ThePolkadog Not the milk one apparently. Probably those with higher percentages or purity.

  • @hang03 Yeah chocolate :3 I saw it on an anime (kuroshitsuji)

  • @runnyrunny999 what can you substitute with red wine?

  • @yefg567789 red grape juice, not so concentrated ones

  • LOL! SPECIAL THANKS TO COCONUT MILK!

    Win.

    >:D

  • Looks great... thanks for sharing ;-)

  • I love curry so much!

  • would it be sweet curry?

  • @suhana3479 Yeah, most japanese curries are sweet but not in the conventional sweet food way.

  • peppers are fruits.

  • The curry blocks i used to use when i lived in japan already had the apple flavor added. sooooo good!

  • I'm addicted to your videos ;__; I can't wait to cook everything you've taught us!

  • hahahaha I Loved the couple in the beginning! They are hilariously cute!

  • the couple in the video is really cute. they are so funny

  • can i put chocolate? >__<

  • @KazekamiShirotsuki For what? A substitute as the curry roux? Absolutely not. Use curry powder with some roux (Butter and flour) as a sub.

  • @KazekamiShirotsuki As a hidden flavour however, yes. Chocolate, coffee and banana all add depth to the flavour of curry.

  • @LadyLatias It was most likely a reference to a Kuroshitsuji episode..

  • @OfWebsAndChocolates I thought it was a reference to Addicted to Curry actually ._.

  • can i put chocolate? >__<

  • AMAZING, RECIPE. You sir are a genius

  • Skip the step for the curry sauce,i got mine from mcdonalds

  • can children eat food that have red wine in it???

  • @The15thNoahOf2011: Yes because the alcohol evaporates in the heat so, it should be safe for kids to eat :) (sorry for my bad english)

  • made it, was delicious, sweet taste of honey came out nice too :)

  • even in south India we make curries with sweet ingredients.. Like pineapple, banana and honey... its all about balance. nothing wrong in adding sugar as long as it is balanced. In some curries we also add bitterness and sourness too..its like an explosion

  • i remember putting chocolate in it and it was good

  • This has got to be the best explanation. So many different recipes.. only one stomach. Thanks for the 'how-to-do' explanations. :) I'll start out slowly.. one at a time.

  • Is that really curry...? In my family our curries are extremely spicy and we use other stuff like fish or mutton... but then I'm not Japanese.

    Still. Great recipe. :D

  • Runny-San, Can you make Shio (Salty) Ramen?? Thank You!!

  • what can i substitute for red wine?? im only 18 so i cant buy alcohol

  • His curry looks very weird for me, in my family we don't used maple syrup or coconut milk.. We also don't used the same kind of meet (always beef) and we have vegetables in our curry..

  • @hanatakahashi

Japanese curries often put in some secret seasonings like maple syrup, honey, or apple.

    -

    日本のカレーは、メープル シロップ、はちみつ、りんごのような隠し味をよく入れます。

  • Lol the kansai dialect guy XD

  • now its no longer hidden flavour.i love ur videos!!! :D

  • OMG!!! it looks great!!!! unfortunatly no curry block near me.. =/

  • the curry block looks so much like chocolate :3

  • Normally, I will use the instant curry from the box!

  • Just saying, you don't need a how to cook curry video when the secret is all the in the curry block.

Again, before you people who just attack people because of a "negative" comment, I enjoyed the video just as much as you.

Coconut milk is...not surprisingly... as that is an ingredient widely used in other type of curry.

However, I need to admit that the STYLE of the curry is different. This is like a ground meat sauce rather than the typical one.

  • I like runny's video, I also like cwd's video as well. So nothing against them and making curry. But seems to me japanese curry = anything you want + curry blocks.

By anything you want, I mean typical flavours thats you would want in curry and what you would want.

For example, cooked onion or apple works amazingly well with japanese curry. If you didn't eat japanese curry before, its sweet curry. So the sweetness from the two works well.

  • I always add more of everything like garlic and and onion, mainly due to being an ex smoker. It something to bear in mind if you recently quit like me :)

  • i feel conflicted about curry being sweet and coconutty.

  • You're so adorable :DD

  • @shylildude yes. Coconut milk is only hidden flavour. You can add grated apple, etc. But it is still Japanese curry even if you don't add any hidden flavors

  • the bell peppers look like theyre relaxing in a mud bath..

  • don't put too much because it's hidden flavor.. so it should be hidden... lmfao

  • I love your work man, keep it up!

  • i could watch you cook all day heehee

  • curry block looks like chocalate OAO

  • @Jlo151825 in america walmart or amazon but its cheaper at walmart

  • His onion accent is cute:d

  • Somebody sponser him already D:

  • RUNNY, YOU SHOULD BUY NON STICKY PAN :)

  • where can i buy the curry block from? thank u ^_^

  • There's no "right way" to make Japanese curry rice, there are literally an endless amount of combinations you could use.

Runny's recipe does look good though.

  • im hungry

  • if i omit the coconut milk, is it still japanese curry?

  • is there an alternative for red-wine ?

  • what about beef curry?.. i've eaten once.. theres potatoes, carrots and chunky beef in it... can it bee done just by adding them?.. or which part of meat that i should use to make curry soo it can becomes so tender :D. thx runny :D

  • This is a very different way to make curry. I've never tried it with honey and red wine. Great video :3 !!

  • When I lived in the city I used to eat curry at a small shop on the corner. I eventually made friends with the owner and always came back to eat more of her amazing curry. Her grandmother in Thailand had gotten ill and she wanted to return to see her. She closed up shop and didn't plan on coming back.

I've tried to make the curry she made at least with a similar taste and I have yet to get it right. Seeing this video made it click with me, "DUH, honey and coconut!" Thanks for the eureka moment!

  • The red and yellow pepper looks like its in a pool of curry

  • Ok I made this is the curry block. I used a mild curry block. I have to say, I wish the block where a bit spicier! Otherwise, the flavor is great. :>

  • oh man this reminds me of my epic failure at making curry, burnt it and smoke was all over the house, then i set my apron on fire, and had to explain to the neighbors that i was horrible at cooking when they thought my house was on fire. x( sniff

  • Is there a substitute for bay leaf if I don't have it or can I just leave it out?

  • i love your curry!

  • A quick tip runny, if you put a little bit of vegetable oil in with the butter it will stop it from burning.

  • Speaking of secret ingredients. Coco ichibanya Curry's secret ingredient is cocaine. I am pretty sure, because I ate it about twice a week and gained 20 pounds in two years...

    That would explain the name.

Runny I am going to try your recipe, and use your Kara-age recipe as well for the meat.

  • Soo... we need to hunt readhead ppl for curry!

  • hey, you should actually work in a restaurant, and work to become a chef if you like to do this. if passion is there, you can make a living doing it.

  • Hi Runnnyrunny - i dont know where to get those curry blocks :( do you have any recommendation? what's the brand of the curry block? maybe i can find it in some asian stores.

  • Hi Runny! I've just made your Curry Rice with coconut milk! But i made the curry roux by myself.

1/4 cup butter, 1/4 cup flour, ketchup , curry, and wochester souce.

It was delicious. I really liked the coconut milk in your curry rice version.

Keep on doing these awesome videos!

  • @AliChannu

  • @thatjapanesegirl

    TJGはパン派だからナン仕様だなー。

  • fav and thumb up for the yummy curry = ]

  • Very interesting recipe there. I wonder it Kangaroo mince would go well in curry?

  • @stuffnnonsense dude,u eat kangaroo???and then what??u gona eat panda too??

  • @aimanasrafroslan Panda? Wrong country, man. Emu's more like it. We're the only country in the world (Australia) where people eat the animals that make up the "Coat of Arms". You'll find Kangaroo meat packaged for sale in the Supermarket meat department. The only issue stopping most Australians from consuming Kangaroo meat is the exteme game smell and the tough texture.
