even in south India we make curries with sweet ingredients.. Like pineapple, banana and honey... its all about balance. nothing wrong in adding sugar as long as it is balanced. In some curries we also add bitterness and sourness too..its like an explosion
This has got to be the best explanation. So many different recipes.. only one stomach. Thanks for the 'how-to-do' explanations. :) I'll start out slowly.. one at a time.
His curry looks very weird for me, in my family we don't used maple syrup or coconut milk.. We also don't used the same kind of meet (always beef) and we have vegetables in our curry..
I like runny's video, I also like cwd's video as well. So nothing against them and making curry. But seems to me japanese curry = anything you want + curry blocks.
By anything you want, I mean typical flavours thats you would want in curry and what you would want.
For example, cooked onion or apple works amazingly well with japanese curry. If you didn't eat japanese curry before, its sweet curry. So the sweetness from the two works well.
I always add more of everything like garlic and and onion, mainly due to being an ex smoker. It something to bear in mind if you recently quit like me :)
@shylildude yes. Coconut milk is only hidden flavour. You can add grated apple, etc. But it is still Japanese curry even if you don't add any hidden flavors
Coffee???? wow. chocolate I can totally relate to I guess, it's actually salty below all the sugar, once saw a chef cook chicken with chocolate on Ready! Steady! Cook! was amazing
what about beef curry?.. i've eaten once.. theres potatoes, carrots and chunky beef in it... can it bee done just by adding them?.. or which part of meat that i should use to make curry soo it can becomes so tender :D. thx runny :D
When I lived in the city I used to eat curry at a small shop on the corner. I eventually made friends with the owner and always came back to eat more of her amazing curry. Her grandmother in Thailand had gotten ill and she wanted to return to see her. She closed up shop and didn't plan on coming back.
I've tried to make the curry she made at least with a similar taste and I have yet to get it right. Seeing this video made it click with me, "DUH, honey and coconut!" Thanks for the eureka moment!
oh man this reminds me of my epic failure at making curry, burnt it and smoke was all over the house, then i set my apron on fire, and had to explain to the neighbors that i was horrible at cooking when they thought my house was on fire. x( sniff
Speaking of secret ingredients. Coco ichibanya Curry's secret ingredient is cocaine. I am pretty sure, because I ate it about twice a week and gained 20 pounds in two years...

Just saying, you don't need a how to cook curry video when the secret is all the in the curry block.
Again, before you people who just attack people because of a "negative" comment, I enjoyed the video just as much as you.
Coconut milk is...not surprisingly... as that is an ingredient widely used in other type of curry.
However, I need to admit that the STYLE of the curry is different. This is like a ground meat sauce rather than the typical one.
