There are different factions of Satanism, and if I'm not mistaken Dark Funeral are followers of "LaVeyan" Satanism, in which there is no literal belief in an anthropomorphic being known as Satan--or God for that matter. So, I think he was referring to the Dark Ages to characterize them as having been caused by the machinations of organized religion, and man's need to create a controlling, tyrannical god. I believe he is essentially saying, "God=Suffering". That's my best guess.
