i love the hiding spot..but...if im not mistaking dont servers and computers emit o idk... heat? not such a good idea when an insulator such as cardboard is surrounding it... but i want a acer server! :) @Wolf9656....kinda a repost but im agreeing
Most likely licensing. Windows Home Server is around $150, where as Server 2008 is in the thousands. For that price, MythTV and a Linux file server would do the job for a home environment.
Yes you can. Sometimes it can be complicated with the amount of bandwidth you receive on home connections, as well as how ISP's handle DHCP lease times [your IP address could change at random if not connected 24/7] but yes absolutely you can. Get Apache or install IIS from the OS CD if you have Windows XP Professional and give it a shot! Nothing hurts experimenting :)
this is actually a great, simple, piece of softwar good for the "rest of us". Those who understand and want the concept of a server but can't get into complicated linux/apache/coding stuff
Well if you need a server OS thats easy to use get OSX Server, but personally i would never ever run a server on windows, also apache is for webhosting, not file sharing/fileservers.
I love it.. My desktop 2 laptops and windows media centre is all hooked up to it. Before it was really hard to share things, now I share data very easy
He's asking fot MYsql (not mssql) so you're not going to find anything about it on a microsoft website. I'm 100% sure you can run mysql (and apache + php too) on a WHS.
My gateway sx2850 also 500 GB.

look in your options, i think you have an option call auto focus. It's really helpfull and it works great
Xbox360Hackerz 2 years ago
Nice, does that mean you have to open the cupboard to print, or is there enough room in there for the paper to come out?
Njven 2 years ago
Nice video, apart from the focus-problem.
I'm going to buy a Windows Home Server, OEM-version on an Acer server.

How easy it is to restore the windows home server if my HD die on me?
armada4x4 2 years ago
You can pop in a WHS disc, and WHS will restore your entire HDD and contents, if you backed up the entire disc.
ericn32 2 years ago
@armada4x4 YES! All you have to do is insert a cd, follow the prompts and there it is! Back to its original state!

People, dont run a server on windows. Too many virues.
I run 2 servers, both on linux, clients are windows, but i would never run a server on windows.
Too many viruses, too many crashes etc..

can you create your own website, and let people download and upload files, such as videos, from this?
Luis29999 3 years ago
You can do this from your own simple home computer. A server platform is computer without powerful grafics card, unstable CPU and etc.

Watch out for the file corruption issue when you use certain programs to access the server. Do a search on Windows Home Server corruption.
