Despite being hoarse, I love this video. It's the voice yes, but more of anything her passion. That's what's missing. We want the voice so badly, but the passion has to be in tact before anything happens. I want her to reconnect with her passion, then we can enjoy the gift once again.

I remember watching this in 1991 (was aired in my country during Christmas 1991). It was the second time I saw her perform live (the first time was Simple Truth in spring of 1991). Both performances left me with a big disappointment that has never disappeared no matter how well she performed in subsequent years. Funny, how today everybody carefully gets over the fact that IMYBT tour was voted by Rolling Stone as the worst tour of 1991. When it was published I remember not being surprised at all.

The problem with Whitney is, when she was sick and couldn't hit high notes effortlessly, she try harder and harder to hit those high notes. That makes her throat and her laurynx very very strained. This was one reason why her voice changed so much.

Yes, She did real good, but the Welcome Home Heroes concert version of this Medley is the Best.

Even though in a 2010 standpoint this is considered the middle of Whitney's prime, underneath the surface, things were slowly starting to change. On an old BBS post from 1991 from the group rec.music.misc, a reviewer who watched it stated how Whitney's voice was perfect and totally clear in 1988, but her sad that on the more difficult parts her voice often "cracks". If the tech of today was there in '91, Whitney could have been dogged harsher by tabloids.
