how can I make this instrument to sound and play with a fast fingering and stacato? I got me one, and when I play , I cant play with a fast fingering and stacato like I play with my sax. maybe is the computer is not that fast for this program? I play sax for about 35 years. Ineed and advise, thanks and nice playing, supperve
how do you access vibrato? How close is this to a real trumpet from a woodwind players point of view? The usb device is really great! Im glad they created such a think for you guys!
Hi, I'm a saxophonist and i got an EWI 4000 s and i've been listenig your performances and really like that. I want to know what kind of sounds bank you use and the program audio. Thanks for your answer!

Im checking this vid out to see how good sample modeling products are and i have to say .... that trumpet sound (not your playing) doesnt sound very good its unreal and artificial. wallander instruments seem a little better but mainly for section work and not so much for soloist work.
@indaplace2b In defense of the sound quality I'd say that this was my first use of the software after only having for a day & just using my built in Mac mic. The samplemodeling instruments are the best on the market. They sound REAL! I've used them on recordings and you can't tell it's not real. I've heard playback from some live "board" recordings and it sounds real. Producers, musicians and fans think it sounds real. Samplemodeling instruments are great for solo and section work.
What fingering are you using? From the manual it seems that the Sax fingering is the best as it allows variation in fingerings according to the music you play.
terrific modeling on this one! I may be exaggerating just a tad, but that is quite possibly the best synthesized recreation of a wind instrument I have ever heard. the legato phrases sound great. how do you control the flutter?
@BlimpyBoy , I don't think you are exaggerating....I have heard similar demos and they can't hold a candle to this one. I am going to investigate this library and the EWI usb
Hey, great videos! A few questions: wich software do you use? can you set the ewi to use, i.e. , Flute fingerings for any instrument? Do you use some expression pedal or it´s just the ewi?Is it hard to set up the ewi? I´m about to get one, but i´m not sure about those things. Thanx and, again, great videos!
I would be fooled by about 85% of this, and I'm looking at and know it's midi and a modeler. here the higher ranges suffer a touch, and sound synthetic.
First up, brilliant playing Bernie very nice. Second i have the EWI 4000s with the 100 variations on a duck sounds can i get these realistic sounds on it. Still listening, play it.
Well interpreted by the musician who recorded the demo, only that those who play the trumpet or at least know a little bit of nature know that this sample is far from reality, despite being the best that has been invented to this day. Peace for all!
But if there is a time we are getting closer and closer to the real instruments, this time is now. And from this step, the developers can go to the next one.
how do you do things like vibarto with that controler?
is it set out like a piano/keyboard but you blow and play downwards?
at 0:55 you have a WAH type of sound that isnt like the plunger mute. my favourite wah! nice and loud and sharp, like you'd expect in something like 'the monkey song' from the jungle book
how is that done with 'the trumpet' ?
please let me know so i can do it!
i know its not so much a wah but it has something about it! Thanks
Both "The Trumpet" and "Mr. Sax T" have extra effects you can map - In Mr. Sax T you will see 'Growl C21' and 'flatR C23'' as options - The Trumpet has similar controls it responds to.
I'm not sure how Bernie has his mapped, but there are three analog inputs on the EWI USB bite and 2 pitch benders. On mine I mapped the right hand top bender to controller 21 (growl) & the bottom to controller 23 (flat roll) - leaving the bite as pitch bend.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
and this is exactly the reason why there will be less and less jobs available for musicians
b/c if one person can cover all solo line instruments then one person or 2 people will be hired to do a pit orchestra for a show instead of 10-15 players hence why the EWI is stupid and should've never been invented
not really. you can tell when this is based off of midi rather than a real trumpet. I don't think that anybody is really going to be able to capture the sound the real instrument makes.
Axel Schlosser could not even tell that it was a software trumpet when he first heard it. It will fool 90% of the people listening maybe even more. Now I do agree about the sax though it is good but you can tell. The trumpet is superb.
Don't hate the EWI. It's the greatest instrument ever invented; very expressive and can sound like anything you've ever heard and some things you've never heard. Electric wind instruments have been around for over 33 years and it's only been recently that there is this kind of software. Don't hate the EWI, it's the new software that makes these emulations possible. Guess you better get an EWI and master it. Peace.
Do you allso got the Scatt Voice as a instrument? I saw that on an Akai 4000s , But I want it for my piano because I love the sound. Is dat digital , can you download that? tnkx nick
I want to buy the EWI usb version. Does that work with no problems with Mr. Sax T and Mr. Trumpet? I could write a song in Sonar or Cubase using the usb and either one of the sampled instruments right? I love you playing by the way.
It will be harder to make mistakes in a song. As with digital versus analog mixers the faults are often what gives the music its characteristics. In that respect future soul will have less soul.
I'm a musician, but not a trumpet player - this virtual instrument sounds very realistic to me. I'm not quiet sure if could distinguish it from the real thing.
With respect, that's rubbish. People said exactly the same about gramophones when they were first sold and there doesn't exactly seem to be a dearth of 'proper' musicians as a result! The EWI is just anotherr instrument and not a replacement for the fun of jamming with a proper band.
@shamharoth I jam with "proper bands" on EWI all the time. In fact that's all I play with my bands the Bernie Kenerson Group and Science Factory. I love showing up at jam sessions and shredding everybody with my EWI!
Bernie, can you do a demo of the harmon mute that comes with "the trumpet" package? Is the harmon as good as the regular trumpet sound you demo? Thanks again for showing what the EWI is cabable of.
Also, a minor question--does the EWI USB come with a case? Any good? If not, what do you use to keep it in, carry it around in, etc.?
If you have ever used a Yamaha WX5, I would also be curious to know how you would compare it with the EWI USB. (Besides the obvious convenience of the latter not needing a USB interface, being powered by USB, etc. Compare how they play.)
I still own my original WX7 and used to play a WX5. Switched to EWI 4 years ago. Currently play both Akai EWI40000s and Akai EWI USB and love them both.
When will you make a video with the newly released tenor sax from Samplemodeling? I'd like to hear that as well.
How are the Aria sounds that come with the EWI USB?
Also, I would guess there is, besides breath control, some kind of lip control mechanism, to emulate what one would do with embouchure and reed. How well does that work? How does the unit send out lip control messages? Recognized by most synths?
I'm thinking of purchasing my first EWI. I'll use it for, live performance, sequencing, recording, and shedding in the condo (without bothering the neighbors). I'm running a macbook with logic pro, garageband, garritan jazz, etc. on it.
I'd get the EWI USB first. It's less than half the price of the 4000s and will work better with your laptop than the 4000s with a MIDI/USB interface. The EWI USB has less latency and better response with computer applications. Whichever one you buy, order it from Patchman Music and tell them Bernie sent you. Buy my CDs too. Peace
Yes I do miss the extra rollers and glide strip but will be happy to live without them because the Akai EWI USB is so cool and fun to play. I still use my EWI 4000s for the fantastic internal sounds.
