@MaximumBloodlust it helps to make clearer vocal sounds. when you talk you tend to blow out air, and sometimes the mic picks that up. wearing that mask helps prevent that.

Other points are: fashion, the law [you have to be 18+ to show your face on personal video(s)], privacy (your choice whether you are 18+ or not), in Japan there is a lot of pollution, thus people wear masks to prevent disease and sickness; when you're in Japan attending wherever, like a school, you wear a mask so you don't spread the flu.

yeah i'm part of the audio recorders at my college and sometimes we use those masks to help clear up the sound. there definitely could be other reasons, but that's the first thing that came to mind since i have been using that personally.
