really i fired one last night and the triger pull is way to long and the gun is way to small for a man. Grip only went half way on my midle finger.. Actually thougt the gun was going to flip back because thier isnt enogh of it to hold on to. I am a ruger fan and own a sr9c which is a great gun but ruger dropped the ball on this one!
Still favor my Sig239 due mostly to the reliability factor...plus its relatively compact size for carry, and being a real 9 w/8+1. But it sure does tug on my belt. Does it make any sense to compromise on dependability in favor of weight or size? I don't think so. I'll keep doin' the Sig thing until someone convinces me a plastic gun will always go bang when I need it to (and not when it shouldn't). I am not being smug; I welcome constructive suggestions based on real-world experience.
I dont know why anyone who wants a 380 acp would not buy anything but an ruger lcp. $299, it is a very good value. not to many 380 acp guns cheaper than that and it shoots and performs second to none. it is a ruger so it is reliable and durable. buying a kahr, smith and wesson, walther or sig for $500 or more. great deal.

old comment i'm replying to but just to clarify. leons gun in RE2 was an H&K vp 70. it was the very first polymer framed gun ever made...even before the glock 17. they do look somewhat similar though.
What you call standard I assume you are talking 9x19 Luger or Parabellum. I have the Ruger LCP .380 and 9x19 Handguns, the .380acp is a good size round for this small of a pocket pistol. Fit and finish on the Ruger is much better than the Keltec, but the Keltec is still a good choice!
Actually the .380 IS the same as 9mm round in diameter, just the casing is shortened by 2mm. So it's a 9x17mm round as opposed to 9x19 for a standard "9mm Luger".
No, its not. Its a 9x17mm round, the 9mm is a 9x19. There's also a 9x18mm used for the Makarov PM pistol. .380 is weaker than the 9mm Mak and 9mm Luger. Plus the highest Grain I can find for a .380 is 90 and the highest I can find for 9x19mm is 147. Pretty significant difference. The .380 is still a decent round, though.
I'm in the same boat with the rest of the country. Because many fear the new administration will impose limits or perhaps take away our rights, lots of people have been purchasing the crap out of ammo.
Gun sales have gone up ten fold since Obama was elected into office.
It's pretty funny that after he has shot all ammo, he keeps both hands on the weapon, then, he scans the area for other intruders. If there were another intruder, I guess he could throw the weapon at him or her. Some tactical moves do not make the best of sense. It would on the other hand be smart to have finished the magazine and be reaching for his backup mag while scanning if he wanted to practice real life tactics.
I guess there is a fancy reason for doing it his way.
I prefer a small J frame revolver for this kind of carry gun it is durable and very accurate. It only holds 5 but for what I need ... it is enough and it won't jam!
Do some research, seems that the LCP is prone to trigger breaking. People remember, light weight means less strength. This is a fairly cheap gun. I don't think I would carry one for concealed carry. You should always practice with your concealed carry gun. It needs to be "instictive" and that means lots of rounds....which will wear out this gun. Stick to heavy all steel construction, your life depends on it.
Yeah, I'll remember your input next time I'm shooting a lightweight mostly plastic glock that has no problems(aside from ejection failures, but that's from limpwristing, which you shouldn't be doing anyway). Lightweight does not mean cheap. Not everyone can or wants to carry a steel frame 1911.
No worries, I was just commenting on the earlier LCPs. I'm still interested in getting a LCP. The Guardian is an awesome gun, but the weight can be somewhat of a bother depending on what I'm wearing. Have you had any issues with your LCP? I need to know before I buy one to carry. I carry all the time and sometimes find myself in somewhat shaddy areas (part of my business). I need reliability.
I don't own an LCP, I was commenting because you made it seem as if all lightweight and polymer pistols were of poor quality(which is definitely not the case).
just picked up a LCP today, used with diamond stamp for recall. Will run some ball then 90 gr Hydrashocks tomorrow. What is that hip slick and cool background music?
I had some major problems with my LCP today. It appears the slight downwards pressure caused by holding it tightly with the new finger extension floor plate was causing the magazine to eject as it fired. It's as if the jar of firing coupled with the slight downward pressure causes the magazine notch to slip past the internal release tab. I'm going back to the original magazine design, even though my accuracy is not as good with it.
Interesting. I had two polymer Kahrs that had similar problems. After doing some research I don't think I'll ever buy a polymer frame again. I have a Gaurdian 32 (and 380 on order). They are heavy but that's becuase they are built well and all steel. Polymer flexes and wears out. Just my two cents.
Most of what a gun is comes from the user. If you take the time to maintain most guns they will all be reliable. I have a 2 year old Sigma that has never had a miss fire or jam, and it has had thousands of rounds ran through it.
Also this pistol had a Recall, but any new pistols you buy should be post recall or fixed, so no worries. There's a mark by the back of the slide that says if it has been fixed.
People need to understand that this is a conceal carry gun. Silly to compare it to glocks and berretas because it is a true pocket pistol whereas the others are not.
It is easier to conceal and I have carried something like the Glock and it's size can get in the way.
Also the Glock is not the end all be all of hand guns. Many police departments are switching from Glocks to Sigs if they aren't already using Sig.
I would say they are close, but remember the Glock has that angled grip, and the Sig can go Single Action. It's all about preferences. I would say the SIGs feel and look like they are made better, but the Glocks are cheaper and better known
I was just commenting on how silly it is to say, don't carry an LCP carry a Glock. Not the same gun, and you can't put a Glock in your pocket. The LCP is like the Kal Tec, but I have held both and LCP is much better IMO. My LCP was $260 Brand New post recall
I own the LCP and find it extremely accurate and so far very dependable. As small as it is, even confronted with rapid-fire, it still fairs extremely well and I always hit my mark. Many are saying glock would be a better substitute for the LCP, but glock's subcompact 9mm is 10oz heavier and over an inch longer. When you're looking for a true subcompact, you can't really find anything this small, this accurate. I'm not dissing glock, although, I am a Sig/Ruger (odd combo, i know)guy myself.
Mine has broken twice. First it was the trigger pivot pin, they fixed it and sent it back. Then the firing pin broke. They fixed it, did the recall fix and sent it back. I still love its size, weight, and performance, even though it reliability has been crappy so far. I bought a Walther PPS 9mm as a backup for when it breaks again and is getting repaired. I thought of getting 2 of these LCPs, but I really wanted a 9mm.
Yes the first ones out have had some real issues thats forsure! And since I commented mine broke go figure! So I retract all statements. I honestly now wouldn't trust it as my only carry pistol or back up. I carry a Glock36 an its heavy but I love it. I have the glock21 also I would trust either fully with my life. This little ruger will be a great pistol when they stop being cheap and put some pride in there pistols and work the bugs out.
I noticed your serial number started with 370-***, unfortuantely that is the batch number for the units with defective hammer assemblies. Model 380LPC with serial numbers that start with 370 have gone off when dropped on hard surfaces. Ruger and all dealers (most honest ones) are sending them back..check into it at ruger. Most are returned and retro-fitted by ruger. You get a new clip and something else i cant remember for the hassle. Take care
New shooter here. How does this caliber compare with the 9mm on the Glock 26? Glock 26 probably wasn't the best choice to shoot 9mm the first time, but still I was a little put off by it. Is this caliber really so sub-par compared to 9mm. I mean I would be pretty PO'd and maybe dead if shot with the .380 ACP. Also looking at the Kel-Tec .380ACP but this Ruger is much better looking.
Well sometimes with firearms beauty is skin deep. They may look great but shoot like crap or put your life in danger by having misfires ,broken pins ect. I would stick with the Glock learn how to handle it and use the proper ammo. Glock is the most reliable semi-auto around mine has NEVER EVER let me down. Glock does make a .380 but can't import it! Which sucks! Have you looked into revolvers?
I can't see why some people are so happy to get the free magazine and fix, when this brand new gun shouldn't have this problem to begin with. I am disappointed that Ruger put this out without performing better quality assurance beforehand. Like another person in here, I'm all the more driven to keep my Glocl as my primary cc, even though it weighs more.
I agree with you I will always carry my Glock. She hasn't failed me yet! I can't put my trust in a gun you have to send back with one trip to the range! They would have to do alot better than an extra mag! I think I'll stick with my revolver for back-up. And my Glock
I was close to getting the LCP but I think I'm going with S&W 442. I have much more faith in the revolver. With my luck, a stoppage would occur at the worst moment. It is a cool little gun...just wouldn't bet my life on it.
I have an S&W 642 which is the stainless model, its a nice conceal carry weapon and it weighs a little more than the LCP but it packs a bigger punch with some 158 gr.+p ammo.
Funny, since my last post I've decided to go with the 642 instead of 442. I'm glad you like it...I think it'll be a great little concealed carry piece. I'll be getting it with Crimson Trace.
If anyone owns a new ruger I would suggest checking there website for RECALLS. I have seen a few cross my eyes while reading monthly gun mags. HAPPY SHOOTING!
I had to special order the LCP through a gun shop and I'm still waiting for it. I was told it will be at least a month. Ruger should have made more of them
Shot two boxes through it without any problems. 1 Box of Remington Golden Saber, 1 Box of Magtech solids. Accuracy is incredible for this small a gun. The people next to me thought I was firing from a benchrest.
I will let you know if anything breaks but for now it gets a cleaning then to the range again. Too many people posted poor results for me to trust it right away. I'll put it in my pocket after 500 trouble free rounds. Thanks for posting.
I'm interested in this gun and checking out info on it. Thanks for your review. I was wondering after 6 shots you turned to the right as if to continue, but nothing shown. What is that about. Gun holds 6 +1?, right?
yes it holds 6 +1, we just used the 6 round magazine full, we didnt do the +1. he is turning to the right and left as if to check for any other targets..... training stuff
I bought 100 rounds to break mine in and the trigger broke on the 21st round. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. I've sent it back to Ruger and await its repair. According to Google searches, the pivot pin is prone to breaking, crappy metal.
The trigger on mine broke after 55 rounds. I'm pissed. This is a gun i'm supposed to rely my life on with. Not anymore. I think I'll just carry it for a back-up to my Glock 27. My brother bought one too and he has had trouble with the firing pin not striking the primer hard enough to fire the round. It did it 3 times in 100 rounds.
Well, just got it back from Ruger. They replaced a bunch of parts and gave me a free magazine with finger extension. I'll continue my break in this Sunday.
That Sunday I put 220 rounds through and had no problems. Today, I did not get to 30 before the firing pin broke. I guess it's going back to Ruger for repairs. I'm starting to get bad feelings about this pistol. Are pocket pistols this delicate? Or is it just Ruger cutting corners? I'm starting to like my brothers NAA Guardian more and more, even though it hurts my hand to shoot it.
I was very disappointed in the LCP, I just do not think they are up to the usual Ruger quality. I have two pocket pistols, a S&W 442 .38 snubby and a Bersa 380. Neither of these I would call delicate.
Thanks for the video and your opinion. I just went to my local gun store and put a deposit when it's in stock. LOL... only 16 people ahead of my on the list... Can't wait to shoot it. Are you using any particular holster that you like for this gun? I saw that crimson trace is making a laser grip for this gun as well.
my video doesnt say how really awesome i fell this pistol performed.... the small metal plates on the left of the range at 15 yrds were easy to hit one by one..... also able to knock down the heavy lollipop targets at 10 yards...... this pistol was much better than my keltek p32.. we both put a total of 300 rounds of mixed hardball and silvertips
i'd love to get your thoughts on the way it feels in your hand while shooting. i've had several people tell me these were total "hand-hammers" for them and it was hard to shoot over 50 rounds at the range. (i understand you won't be shooting 50 rounds for self defense though) just like to get your take on the feel vs other guns in it's size class
i shot 300 rounds in 2 days twice with my now 2 LCPs. it is alittle hot, but the more u practice the more u better u will get. it is only a 380. i would compare it to a ruger sp101 with 357. i like shooting it, i did put an uncle mike slipon grip on it, to make it more comfortable, and i added keltecs finger extention to the magazines
hmmm..does the slipon grip and finger extension make it difficult to slide in and out of pocket or add any bulk? I'm looking at it for a backup carry pocket pistol or when i'm just wearing shorts or something. my px4-sc is small and incredible, but i can't always carry it.
I carry glocks and want something much smaller than they make. I'm interested in what piece you carry. Whats the full name? I've never seen or I forgot px4 I know its a sub-compact.thanks
i carry the beretta px4-sc (sub-compact) i carry the F model. it's a BEAUTIFUL gun and shoots like a dream. i got the 9mm, but it's available in 40s&w in the same size specs, just fewer bullets. (carries 14 9mm rounds and 11 40's) i also carry a taurus 38sp. revolver sometimes if the outfit calls for it, just depends on the day/weather/clothing.
4 days ago paid $279 (LEO price).

Goindeff 2 years ago
.380 is 9mm it is 9x17 aka 9mm Browning.
jeeps100 2 years ago
Also called 9mm Kurz
jeeps100 2 years ago
AKA "9mm short"
380 is a pretty decent round! However I would hesitate to go any smaller. :-)
rogertangodotcom 2 years ago
well thanks for clearing that up. I knew that.....I'm talking a full size standard 9mm FMJ. And I've already looked and it only comes .380.
Goindeff 2 years ago
What you call standard I assume you are talking 9x19 Luger or Parabellum. I have the Ruger LCP .380 and 9x19 Handguns, the .380acp is a good size round for this small of a pocket pistol. Fit and finish on the Ruger is much better than the Keltec, but the Keltec is still a good choice!

You'll love the Ruger LCP .380. I don't regret buying mine.
I paid $339 at a local gun shop about 1 1/2 months ago or so.

I bet you made the gunshop happy after you paid that amount. That gun shouldn't be no more than $300, sorry.

380 is bigger than 9mm
MCRjp4 2 years ago
Actually the .380 IS the same as 9mm round in diameter, just the casing is shortened by 2mm. So it's a 9x17mm round as opposed to 9x19 for a standard "9mm Luger".
SideburnSteve 2 years ago 2
No, its not. Its a 9x17mm round, the 9mm is a 9x19. There's also a 9x18mm used for the Makarov PM pistol. .380 is weaker than the 9mm Mak and 9mm Luger. Plus the highest Grain I can find for a .380 is 90 and the highest I can find for 9x19mm is 147. Pretty significant difference. The .380 is still a decent round, though.

there is a 102 grain golden saber round my preference in .380

Good info. Thank you! I've heard good things about G. Saber, too.

they have the same diameter bullet but the 9mm is much more powerful

I'm in the same boat with the rest of the country. Because many fear the new administration will impose limits or perhaps take away our rights, lots of people have been purchasing the crap out of ammo.
Gun sales have gone up ten fold since Obama was elected into office.

I agree. I go to Cabelas and electronically place/preorder ammo. I do have to wait, but once it arrives, it is mine.

I just bought this today for $339 and added the crimson laser grips.
Love the weight and size of this. It fits perfectly in my concealed push up holster.
Haven't fired it yet, but will soon.
This is of course the version that doesn't fire when it's dropped like earlier LCP's.

I guess there is a fancy reason for doing it his way.
specialks1953 2 years ago 6
I prefer a small J frame revolver for this kind of carry gun it is durable and very accurate. It only holds 5 but for what I need ... it is enough and it won't jam!
I love Ruger though I have a SR9
mysacredhonor 3 years ago
Do some research, seems that the LCP is prone to trigger breaking. People remember, light weight means less strength. This is a fairly cheap gun. I don't think I would carry one for concealed carry. You should always practice with your concealed carry gun. It needs to be "instictive" and that means lots of rounds....which will wear out this gun. Stick to heavy all steel construction, your life depends on it.
FuchsTone66 3 years ago
you dont know crap you think you know it all but you definatly do not.
chrisw40 3 years ago
Yeah, I'll remember your input next time I'm shooting a lightweight mostly plastic glock that has no problems(aside from ejection failures, but that's from limpwristing, which you shouldn't be doing anyway). Lightweight does not mean cheap. Not everyone can or wants to carry a steel frame 1911.
prisoner1138 2 years ago
No worries, I was just commenting on the earlier LCPs. I'm still interested in getting a LCP. The Guardian is an awesome gun, but the weight can be somewhat of a bother depending on what I'm wearing. Have you had any issues with your LCP? I need to know before I buy one to carry. I carry all the time and sometimes find myself in somewhat shaddy areas (part of my business). I need reliability.
FuchsTone66 2 years ago
I don't own an LCP, I was commenting because you made it seem as if all lightweight and polymer pistols were of poor quality(which is definitely not the case).
prisoner1138 2 years ago
It is a Ruger...I have owned Rugers and they have always been good guns. I doubt they would make a gun that is junk.

carloss852 3 years ago
I had some major problems with my LCP today. It appears the slight downwards pressure caused by holding it tightly with the new finger extension floor plate was causing the magazine to eject as it fired. It's as if the jar of firing coupled with the slight downward pressure causes the magazine notch to slip past the internal release tab. I'm going back to the original magazine design, even though my accuracy is not as good with it.
ramgarjun 3 years ago

There's a mark by the back of the slide that says if it has been fixed.
missionbrent 3 years ago
People need to understand that this is a conceal carry gun. Silly to compare it to glocks and berretas because it is a true pocket pistol whereas the others are not.
It is easier to conceal and I have carried something like the Glock and it's size can get in the way.
Also the Glock is not the end all be all of hand guns. Many police departments are switching from Glocks to Sigs if they aren't already using Sig.
missionbrent 3 years ago
your right but i would still say the glock and the sig are tied on everything except a glock weighs less
reapertcm 3 years ago
I would say they are close, but remember the Glock has that angled grip, and the Sig can go Single Action. It's all about preferences. I would say the SIGs feel and look like they are made better, but the Glocks are cheaper and better known
I was just commenting on how silly it is to say, don't carry an LCP carry a Glock. Not the same gun, and you can't put a Glock in your pocket. The LCP is like the Kal Tec, but I have held both and LCP is much better IMO. My LCP was $260 Brand New post recall
missionbrent 3 years ago
I own the LCP and find it extremely accurate and so far very dependable. As small as it is, even confronted with rapid-fire, it still fairs extremely well and I always hit my mark. Many are saying glock would be a better substitute for the LCP, but glock's subcompact 9mm is 10oz heavier and over an inch longer. When you're looking for a true subcompact, you can't really find anything this small, this accurate. I'm not dissing glock, although, I am a Sig/Ruger (odd combo, i know)guy myself.
jasondavid 3 years ago
I like the new little ruger great carry piece! And very accurate for its size. Utilizing the right ammo it will do what you need it to.
gunlver 3 years ago
Mine has broken twice. First it was the trigger pivot pin, they fixed it and sent it back. Then the firing pin broke. They fixed it, did the recall fix and sent it back. I still love its size, weight, and performance, even though it reliability has been crappy so far. I bought a Walther PPS 9mm as a backup for when it breaks again and is getting repaired. I thought of getting 2 of these LCPs, but I really wanted a 9mm.
ramgarjun 3 years ago

Also looking at the Kel-Tec .380ACP but this Ruger is much better looking.
whitescarfsyndrome 3 years ago
380 can be a easier caliber too shoot in a medium frame pistol, but this is a mouse (small) pistol, so the recoil is a bit heavy.
380 is about 60% power of the 9mm. i think the LCP is better
postal1911 3 years ago
Well sometimes with firearms beauty is skin deep. They may look great but shoot like crap or put your life in danger by having misfires ,broken pins ect. I would stick with the Glock learn how to handle it and use the proper ammo. Glock is the most reliable semi-auto around mine has NEVER EVER let me down. Glock does make a .380 but can't import it! Which sucks! Have you looked into revolvers?
gunlver 3 years ago
@whitescarfsyndrome Have you tried any 2+ magazines or similar extended grips for better control of the 26 while firing?

I can't see why some people are so happy to get the free magazine and fix, when this brand new gun shouldn't have this problem to begin with. I am disappointed that Ruger put this out without performing better quality assurance beforehand. Like another person in here, I'm all the more driven to keep my Glocl as my primary cc, even though it weighs more.

I agree with you I will always carry my Glock. She hasn't failed me yet! I can't put my trust in a gun you have to send back with one trip to the range! They would have to do alot better than an extra mag! I think I'll stick with my revolver for back-up. And my Glock
gunlver 3 years ago
Ruger will probably iron out the "bugs" and eventually she'll be a much more reliable pocket gun.
splatterviz 3 years ago
I was close to getting the LCP but I think I'm going with S&W 442. I have much more faith in the revolver. With my luck, a stoppage would occur at the worst moment. It is a cool little gun...just wouldn't bet my life on it.
splatterviz 3 years ago
I have an S&W 642 which is the stainless model, its a nice conceal carry weapon and it weighs a little more than the LCP but it packs a bigger punch with some 158 gr.+p ammo.
beetlemaster07 3 years ago
Funny, since my last post I've decided to go with the 642 instead of 442. I'm glad you like it...I think it'll be a great little concealed carry piece. I'll be getting it with Crimson Trace.

*** RECALL NOTICE ON RUGER LCP PISTOLS ***
They could fire if dropped with a loaded chamber. Ruger will fix it for free (including shipping) and give you a free extra magazine for the trouble.
See Ruger's website for the LCP recall details.

I had to special order the LCP through a gun shop and I'm still waiting for it. I was told it will be at least a month. Ruger should have made more of them

Just got mine...

I bought 100 rounds to break mine in and the trigger broke on the 21st round. Needless to say, I was very disappointed. I've sent it back to Ruger and await its repair. According to Google searches, the pivot pin is prone to breaking, crappy metal.
ramgarjun 3 years ago
The trigger on mine broke after 55 rounds. I'm pissed. This is a gun i'm supposed to rely my life on with. Not anymore. I think I'll just carry it for a back-up to my Glock 27. My brother bought one too and he has had trouble with the firing pin not striking the primer hard enough to fire the round. It did it 3 times in 100 rounds.
8675564 3 years ago
Well, just got it back from Ruger. They replaced a bunch of parts and gave me a free magazine with finger extension. I'll continue my break in this Sunday.
ramgarjun 3 years ago
That Sunday I put 220 rounds through and had no problems. Today, I did not get to 30 before the firing pin broke. I guess it's going back to Ruger for repairs. I'm starting to get bad feelings about this pistol. Are pocket pistols this delicate? Or is it just Ruger cutting corners? I'm starting to like my brothers NAA Guardian more and more, even though it hurts my hand to shoot it.
ramgarjun 3 years ago
"Are pocket pistols this delicate? "
I was very disappointed in the LCP, I just do not think they are up to the usual Ruger quality. I have two pocket pistols, a S&W 442 .38 snubby and a Bersa 380. Neither of these I would call delicate.

my video doesnt say how really awesome i fell this pistol performed.... the small metal plates on the left of the range at 15 yrds were easy to hit one by one..... also able to knock down the heavy lollipop targets at 10 yards...... this pistol was much better than my keltek p32.. we both put a total of 300 rounds of mixed hardball and silvertips
postal1911 3 years ago
i'd love to get your thoughts on the way it feels in your hand while shooting. i've had several people tell me these were total "hand-hammers" for them and it was hard to shoot over 50 rounds at the range. (i understand you won't be shooting 50 rounds for self defense though) just like to get your take on the feel vs other guns in it's size class
tharpey 3 years ago
i shot 300 rounds in 2 days twice with my now 2 LCPs. it is alittle hot, but the more u practice the more u better u will get. it is only a 380. i would compare it to a ruger sp101 with 357. i like shooting it, i did put an uncle mike slipon grip on it, to make it more comfortable, and i added keltecs finger extention to the magazines
postal1911 3 years ago
hmmm..does the slipon grip and finger extension make it difficult to slide in and out of pocket or add any bulk? I'm looking at it for a backup carry pocket pistol or when i'm just wearing shorts or something. my px4-sc is small and incredible, but i can't always carry it.
would you trust your life with it?
