Not a comparison to the actual "renaissance" period of France to which the name is historically connected so I will excuse your eruditeness in your reproach. Next time please ask what context I was using the word in as the need for this chastisement could also be seen as stuck up, self-righteous and elitist. We wouldn't want that now would we?
For the record the renaissance was in Italy, then spread to Europe. Technically you can argue it started in Spain with the discovery of the remains of the libraries left by the Moors when they were expelled. But it is in no way a French movement. A European movement definitely but referring to France makes it seem like you don't know what your metaphor refers to. And as any English professor will be glad to remind you, metaphors are comparisons. Words have connotations, history and meaning.
Regardless of the history behind the name renaissance, I believe I stated my use of the word was based on the pure definition of the word from the French language. That said my explaination makes it clear that the historical reference is not intended meaning so again your chastisement comes off as erudite, and self-righeous. Any language teacher could tell you the difference and meaning between the word and the historical event that was described by the word.

What it has to do with Palin is that many conservatives keep making excuses for her instead of realizing she isn't the future of conservatism. Her version of conservatism is religious conservatism and favoring the rich and I don't even consider that conservatism. My view of conservatism is fiscal conservatism and a free market. Having the gov back certain companies and protecting the super wealthy does not create either a free market or a small government. Religious conservatism is just sick.
I don't see that Christo. Forgive me but I differ on my view of Palin's history. I don't know of any regulations or values she has that favors the rich over poor or instils religious values over others. Granted she is religious but she has never passed legislation based on her beliefs. She also gave tax revenues from the oil industry back to the people of Alaska and is working to make the natural resources of Alaska help the US. I have no problem with that.
When she said the soldiers were on a mission from god, that really scared me. W let his faith get in the way of his judgment as well and I would be very hesitant to put trust in a very religious person again. She is also strongly pro life and I think it's a family decision and not a gov decision and it doesn't line up with the small limited government philosophy of conservatism. Alaska is doing well because of the oil wealth not because of anything Palin is or isn't doing. It's a gigantic resource state with the lowest population density in the country.

Reigning in gov spending and lowering taxes and regulatory requirements is a great thing if it is done in such a way to promote freedom and a fair free market. Unfortunately if you do this stuff wrong you just end up supporting a particular industry or large businesses. I am for opening up the market so that a true competitive efficient market can exist.
Too often the GOP has caved to corporate interests which is a detriment to the free market we crave.
Just look at the FDA. Guess who loves the regulatory requirements of the FDA? The large pharmaceutical companies, that's who. And the reason they like them is because it creates too large of a barrier for small pharm firms to break into the business so it keeps their monopoly going for them. Not a comparison to the actual "renaissance" period of France to which the name is historically connected so I will excuse your eruditeness in your reproach. For the record the renaissance was in Italy, then spread to Europe. Technically you can argue it started in Spain with the discovery of the remains of the libraries left by the Moors when they were expelled. But it is in no way a French movement. A European movement definitely but referring to France makes it seem like you don't know what your metaphor refers to. And as any English professor will be glad to remind you, metaphors are comparisons. Words have connotations, history and meaning.

Regardless of the history behind the name renaissance, I believe I stated my use of the word was based on the pure definition of the word from the French language. That said my explaination makes it clear that the historical reference is not intended meaning so again your chastisement comes off as erudite, and self-righeous. Any language teacher could tell you the difference and meaning between the word and the historical event that was described by the word.

What it has to do with Palin is that many conservatives keep making excuses for her instead of realizing she isn't the future of conservatism. Her version of conservatism is religious conservatism and favoring the rich and I don't even consider that conservatism. My view of conservatism is fiscal conservatism and a free market. Having the gov back certain companies and protecting the super wealthy does not create either a free market or a small government. Religious conservatism is just sick.

I don't see that Christo. Forgive me but I differ on my view of Palin's history. I don't know of any regulations or values she has that favors the rich over poor or instils religious values over others. Granted she is religious but she has never passed legislation based on her beliefs. She also gave tax revenues from the oil industry back to the people of Alaska and is working to make the natural resources of Alaska help the US. I have no problem with that.

When she said the soldiers were on a mission from god, that really scared me. W let his faith get in the way of his judgment as well and I would be very hesitant to put trust in a very religious person again. She is also strongly pro life and I think it's a family decision and not a gov decision and it doesn't line up with the small limited government philosophy of conservatism. The evangelicals hijacked the party and has been trying to make the US a Christian nation ever since (through the GOP)

Well you can remain fearful if you want, right now we have a man who said on national cable tv that Jesus is his personal lord and Savior. He sat in a hateful church and then became president and went ot Egypt and praised Iran. Somehow Palin's beleifs pale in comparison, especially when she never made policy off them. Until then I think you should be a little more focused on someone's point and not word choice. Kind of like your use of the word renaissance. Its idea was fine. I simply commented that I thought another word would remove a metaphor that seems bland with little connection.

Good points Christo. I might add to that that they would have continued slavery for probably several more decades. They were the creators of the Jim Crow laws. It was democrats that turned dogs and fire hoses on the negroes in the 60's. Both Kennedy and Gore voted against the 1957 Civil Rights Act, with Kennedy opposing the 63' civil rights march on DC. It was actually the Republican party that created tne NAACP to promote anti-racist practices of the democrats.

Reigning in gov spending and lowering taxes and regulatory requirements is a great thing if it is done in such a way to promote freedom and a fair free market. Unfortunately if you do this stuff wrong you just end up supporting a particular industry or large businesses. I am for opening up the market so that a true competitive efficient market can exist.
Too often the GOP has caved to corporate interests which is a detriment to the free market we crave.

Just look at the FDA. Guess who loves the regulatory requirements of the FDA? The large pharmaceutical companies, that's who. And the reason they like them is because it creates too large of a barrier for small pharm firms to break into the business so it keeps their monopoly going for them. Do you think for 1 minute that she would adopt the same policies as a Paul administration would? I envision a Paul admin as a massive move to support free markets, ending unnecessary regulation, and ending the federal reserve and going back to sound money. The temptation to print money and inflate the money is just too great for a politician to resist. That is why we were on a gold standard to begin with and our founders understood that.

The only reason he attacked Iraq is because he knew that after gulf war 1 and 10 years of bombing that they were in no condition to defend themselves. If national security and wmds and nuclear proliferation were the real issues, he would have attacked N. Korea. everyone knew they had or were very close to nuclear weapons and a huge danger to the region (Were talking China and Japan here) and world peace. Wrong! There was no reason to attack N.Korea because we have had soldiers in S.Korea for ages monitoring the situation and we had Korea contained and were still persuing talks with them. He attacked Iraq because of WMD intel and then to liberate Iraq from Saddam. Which he did. The lamestream media tried to label 6 different policies as Bush Doctrines, starting before 911. But those policies are so random and different that asking about THE bush doctrine is obviously a trap.

That is simply not true. Everyone understood what the Bush doctrine was and she was unable to answer the question. One of the things I really didn't like about her was her way of giving non answers to questions. Now, most politicians do that, but she took it to the extreme. And the way she tried to present herself as a "regular" gal was nauseating.
It's hard to perfectly put a finger on her, but she just came across (to me) as a sleazy car salesman.

Everybody understood what the Bush doctrine was christo? Oh really, is that a fact? Your as wrong as two left shoes. Most of Americans to this day doesn't know what the Bush Doctrine was. You thought it was "nauseating" that Palin presented herself as a "regular gal", please explain how she "wasn't" just a regular gal. Unless she was some sort of royality that grew up in luxury, please explain how she wasn't a "regular gal".
