This aired on ABC on November 16/17 of 2000. I remember watching it -- having no idea who the Beatles were -- and just falling in love with them. During the program I searched for their songs via Napster and the rest was history. What a great, fond memory of a beautifully, delicate program on the fab four.
You can dislike the Beatles (I don't know why you would...), but there's NO DOUBT that the Beatles shaped the world of music FOREVER. Without them, nothing. Or close to it. Beatlemania forever...
@worldcitizenforever Well, youve always got a joke or two even if your kinda spaced out. I like people who can take what they give ( as long as it doesent get too nasty ) ! Victor is not cool in what he said, its a lousy cheap shot !! See ya on Mars.....
@worldcitizenforever Well, maybe John sniffed premium ? No, really... I wont go there. John was just plain hurt. A casulity of life. Well, dont get me started on that one !! Watch out for Victor, hes got your ass in his sights, dont cha know ?? WELL, PEACE......
Wow. Ten years ago this aired. It's time to air this again! I had it on tape and sadly, the tape was broken. Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for uploading this!
As to raising the standards, imo, the Rolling Stones mostly missed the challenge... That's one of the reason The Beatles are way better. In fact, the greatest band of all time, hands down... But that's kind of stating the obvious...
@TheCatalanBraveheart Your absolutely right ! The Beatles continually raised the bar for themselves. The Stones are good ole rockers, but.. The Beatles were a multicoloured variety show. I'm just sorry that they didn't stay together longer, oh... what we missed !!! PEACE.......
chucky1856--He said, "The Beatles forced us to write songs." (Since the Beatles wrote and performed their own music, that meant the Stones also had to write their own music!)
Elvis and Michael Jackson are popular around the world and changed American culture. But the Beatles are popular around the world and changed the world.
i love it when my favorite bands grow tons of fecial hair, like the baetles and led zeppelin, some thing about it makes them look crazy,, in the good way
I wonder why Britney Spears wasn't on this program because this was made in 2000 when she was the biggest thing in the world and she's said she's an avid Beatles fan.
really sad that abc asks losers like nsync what they think of the beatles who were nothing like the beatles since they cant play instruments and arent rebellious like the beatles were they dont even have long hair just another passing fad like the jonas brothers.
I remember being nine years old and the "One" compilation coming out. This got me hooked on my favorite band of all time. I had the need to see it again but it reran once. I've seen better documenatries but this is cool!
They were just a rock group from England. The whole point that you're missing is that they were indeed just four normal people from Liverpool that without a doubt changed the world. It's not like she said that to be offensive.
does anyone have a copy of the version of norwegian wood that comes in at 1:36, i know its not the album version and yet i cant find it amongsts the demo versions either, someone help please !
I love hearing J.K. Rowling talking about The Beatles because she is one of my absolute favorite writers, and The Beatles are one of my greatest musical loves! Them together is like heaven :-)
ringo is the greatest rock drummer of all time. but the other 3 were also good drummers, according to ringo himself. in fact, on record, paul mccartney played drums to more than a handful of great songs: Dear Prudence, Back in the USSR, Ballad of John and Yoko. Ringo's best drumming (which he also says) is "Rain".
Three geniuses in one band...think about it!! It is that musical asteroid that hit Earth!!! It wiped out all standards before them!! I will never tire of their musical gifts!!!
ringo is a genius in his own right, thank you very much. when he briefly left the group in 1968, the boys pretty much lost their power to make great music together. they begged him to come back & as soon as he did, they were able to create more amazing songs. that proves he WAS useful, no matter what anyone says...
MONKEYZPWN...you know what I mean. Ringo was not the "songwriter/composer" the other three were. Ringo was a perfect drummer for the Beatles and was underrated. I love all the Beatles. They were all a "perfect fit." Two of my favorite "Ringo masterpieces" was his drumming in "Birthday" and "Old Brown Shoe"...among others...not to mention the ending of "Dear Prudence."
I agree (except Paul was the drummer on Dear Prudence, Ringo left for a few days as he was starting to feel "left out"). I feel the drumming on "The End" was as good as any rock song since.
buffalobraves9...thanks for the correction. You are right that Paul was indeed the drummer in "Dear Prudence". Wow! He did a great job! I would have never have guessed. He ALSO was the drummer on "Back in the U.S.S.R."...another mindblower! Go to "The Beatles Bible" site.
Great Post...3 musical geniuses in one band!!! WOW! Paul said he woke up with "Yesterday"...already in his head. I'm sure John and George woke up with "songs in their heads"...as well!
Relentlessly imaginative and experimental, the Beatles grabbed a hold of the international mass consciousness in 1964 and never let go for the next six years.
The Beatles were the greatest and most influential act of the rock era, and introduced more innovations into popular music than any other rock band of the 20th century. Moreover, they were among the few artists of any discipline that were simultaneously the best at what they did and the most popular at what they did.
I am so fortunate that I was born at a great time...to grow up with this remarkable band! I was 10...I'm now 55 as of today. The Beatles have been "my best buddies"...all these years. All these years of enjoyment...so many more to come. I am so lucky. There will never be another...Beatles.
i wasnt a beatles fan when this aired but i really wish i could have seen this. everything the artists and entertainers desribe the beatles to be i feel they truely are. they have really inspired me and the world. i cant get over it.
this aired on abc the night of November 20 in the year 2000. I remember because this documentary changed my life in ways I could never have imagined that night
I was 6 when the Beatles first came to America, and I remember it vividly! I used to do the beatle-voices in the 1st grade and it got me chased around the schoolyard by girls!
Now that I think about it, I think my mom had been watching this, and she had made me watch some of it (I was little at the time). I remember when she got the 1 CD a couple weeks later, and thus started my love for The Beatles.
I use to have this on video, but I think I recorded over it. The really didn't need to interview N' Stink for this show. The reason I love The Beatles so much is that their songs are so timeless and easy to sing to. I agree with Meshell. When you listen to a Beatles record it take you somewhere else, especially their stuff from Rubber Soul and after 1965.
The Beatles touched many people, and still touches 'em...PaperbackWriter95 is a young person doing Beatles series, they have inspired many people, from engineers to psychologists to astronomists...that's why they have their own star or asteroid as well. So this people...have been touched by the Beatles as well....and that's the basis of their REVOLUTION.
i had it for over 20 years. the IDIOT i live with thought it was his fathers, and sold it. i will NEVER EVER forgive him. he also sold my red and blue beatles greatest hits albums. thank GOD i had most of the rest of them in another box.
i can truthfully say that music began for me the day my friend isabel loaned me a copy of an album called
"rock and roll", a beatles compilation long out of print. it had a silver metallic cover, and started with "back in the USSR". i fell in love, madly, with the beatles, and have been in love ever since.
I don't believe so. I checked Amazon, and if they don't sell it, it probably ain't out on DVD. Try bugging ABC Entertainment....maybe they'll rebroadcast it.
