  • she is so adorable!! and amazing! 2:35 favorite part!

  • I'm following this korean cellist. It has been a grat discover for me. She's very talented...

  • This is so beautiful :) Not to mention absolutely insane artificial harmonics... o.O

  • is she by any chance married to Yo Yo Ma... no? WHY NOT!?

  • SOOO BEAUTIFUL!!!!!! I want to be like her!!!!!! I'm lucky I'm Korean!!

  • Merci Zaokoye.... oui et elle interprète si bien également Vivaldi, Rachmaninov, Saint-Saëns et d'autres, comme Fauré par ex. "Après un rêve"......

  • A music that touches my heart.

  • @albierte I no right

  • Who wrote this masterpiece ? Rossini or Paganini ???

  • Very expressive

  • @shishirth I agree

  • what kind of strings are she using

  • 55 people still play cello on the keyboard!

  • I adore the sounds that Han-Na makes... I fell in love with her debut recording years ago, an album with Fauré, Tchaikovsky, Bruch, etc. Quite remarkable!

  • this inspires me to practice my artificial harmonics! . . . ^_^

  • Certified Intergalactic! I want those fingers!

  • очень нужны ноты партии виолончели "Моисей в Египте"! кого есть, киньте ссылку или сами ноты на адрес lovely777@inbox.ru

    Буду очень признательна!!! Спасибо!

  • She is amazing. Just like du Pré, meant to play the cello!

  • Han Na Chang. marry me please :)

  • what an such excellent orchestra where everyone enjoys playing

  • 4:35 Oopsie...

  • when my mom was in college, she taught han na chang. she was probably in 1st or 2nd grade at the time. :)

  • Navarras much better, i didnt like it so slow, it didnt move enough

  • @Bigbug123456 What a silly superficial comment! Navarra was a great cellist, but Han Na CHang is also a very fine and very musical cellist with splendid technique. There are plenty of fast virtuosic passages which she plays brilliantly!

  • troppo brava, troppo simpatica, troppo tutto! fa quasi rabbia!! :) Ma la amo!!

  • yes...we're all in love with Ha-na Chang...but I love her the most... ;-)

  • i had trouble playing this on the violin. It amazes me that she is able to play this piece so flawlessly on the cello. :O

  • Charming!

  • She is just amazing she can speak with those amazing big eyes . You can truly feel her emotions through her intrument!

  • music's real charm is build into the music itself. the performer should try not to show it obviously, especially facially.instead should try to avoid it on your face or body. I believe you are moved by the music, but except your parents, nobody want to see your show it up in your face while you perform the music publicly. just like langlang's facial show not really welcomed by your audience. if you can not control your facial express,I will forgive you then.

  • start at 6:40

    this shit is crazy

  • faulty shifting

  • I don't play these instruments, I just love the music. Can anyone explain why she does make faces? I assume it is some kind of breathing technique to allow easier playing? Funny to watch, and beautiful to listen to.

  • @Mormodes any kind of expressions that dont seems accidental are reflections of the players musicality. as you can tell, on certain passage, she has different expressions. she is known for her mature musicality and i admire that very much.

  • @Mormodes She's just transported. This is how I feel sometimes when I play, I kind of lose myself and let the music guide me instead of the other way around. Of course, she floats in her own fantasies while playing this beautiful music.

  • Her and I have the same Korean name. Except my surname is Jung. Anywho, this is absolutely incredible playing. I wish I could play the cello.

  • cello genius. with a pretty smile :)

  • Hardcore p***no...

  • It's probably her worst performance... I didn't like it at ALL!

  • Awesome!

  • That was so pleasant to watch. I really enjoyed that performance.

  • OMG im tring 2 copy of something to do the music hmw THAT IT RUBBISH this is !!!

  • To be honest, she looks like she's trying to imitate Yo-Yo Ma. Wonderful playing, but i kind of dislike her vibrato. It all seems to be one speed.

  • 50 - Britney Spears fans?

  • Bravooo !!!!! You're beautiful!!!!

  • One of the hardest things i've experienced in my playing is showing confidence when playing a solo piece in front of a crowd, you Kind of have to trick yourself into thinking you're flawless and that you won't mess up, and absorb yourself into the piece so that you're no longer aware of the crowd watching you, you're only aware of the sound of the piece and how you want to play it.

Also, the thing she does in the piece is called an Artificial Harmonic.

  • I will never cease to be amazed....a wooden box, some strings, horsehair and pure talent.

  • @RwithFlem

I'm going to take a guess at it, based on some Googling:

It's similar to the squeaks heard from beginners (not good) but in this instance it's controlled by a pro.

As seen in the video, her fingers are at two points on the string. That fits with what I read: if another finger is barely touching a string being played, it "squeaks." I'll guess that the higher finger is fully pressing down on the string, and the lower finger is barely touching it, an octave lower.

  • @DonTruman Yes, it's a harmonic. You press down the string with your thumb (most practical), and lightly touch another finger, usually the ring finger on a harmonic above the thumbnote. The most practical harmonic is a major third above (physically below) your thumbnote, it's close and rings kinda well (though not very well). You will hear the note your ring finger is on, but two octaves higher than when it's pressed down.

  • @JupiterAdept

    Interesting. Thank you.

I see at around 1:50 , she is using thumb and ring finger, although for a few notes she switches to middle finger for the harmonic.

  • @DonTruman There are couple harmonics per string that are there originally when it is an open string (no finger touching the string), so no need to use the thumb in those cases.

  • just i can say:she is wanderful!! lovely and fantastic cello player, regards from Argentina

  • To you cellists out there, help me understand how she plays those really high notes at 5:50 and 6:09. I can see her playing the high string a lot, and the tone is nowhere near that high. But somehow it's possible to make that same string a super-high tone? How?

  • The orchestra is composed by the musicians of the Berliner Philarmoniker , I can recognise at least the viola player which is the first viola in the orchestra.

  • I do not quite understand where the arrogance comment came from...! I can tell you this, anyone that can make this music has every right to be arrogant. The fact that she isn't makes her more special.

  • omg!! ORGASMIC!! lolll in away. in my way..lol. owell im no sicko alls i mean is it just give u like an ecstasy feeling listening to her play..i love it!

  • She loves to play and I love to listen!

  • I'm still struggling with this piece. And yet she makes it seem so easy.

  • cool

  • reminds me of a Carp out of water gasping for a breath of air......or water.....painful

  • All I have to do is enjoy the music and relax.

Thank you for posting this wonderful performance.

    It's free!

  • she's alright.... RIDICULOUS

  • o m g

  • I had the honor of playing with her in Turkey twice. Such a great person in every way.I wish her the best forever.

  • @cello155 Wow really? What instrument did you play while with her?

  • @cello155 I Played Cello At the orchestra she was soloist .One at İstanbul Festival the other at D Marin Festival. She Played Elgar on both concerts.

  • @cello155!! really?!?! awesome! awesome! LoL=

    How was the experience? awesome!

  • she is so accurate in every pitch...

  • I like it!!

    My congratulations!!!!!!

  • non so....nn mi convince

  • Love the communication between her and the instrument.

  • If you can do something you love to do.Well, you know the rest.Absolutely breath taking.

  • troppi glissandi, e il violoncello è lamantoso, neppure tanta grande tecnica, ma solo ostentazione. un'orrore. musica 0

  • A lovely piece so tenderly, beautifully played. I thank Ms. Chang for introducing me to this piece-, and you dear uploader, for sharing.

  • amazing..amazing... want to play this NOW!!!!!!!!!

  • wow this is amazing! 10 stars seriously

  • This song is cool does anybody know where to find this song on the internet it is so cool please tell me

  • ah....... 10 stars !!

  • she is really good......she is amazing...

  • bravissima

  • brava!!!!

ancola un pò di liso cantonese plego....

    ad ognuno il suo.

  • what cello does she play on???? Im a violinist and Im starting to like her...

  • the whole world knows she plays on a stradi varius

  • well, i didn't know, but i noticed that it sounded like a strad b. it sounds just like rocco filini's strad cello.

  • It's a Guadagnini.

  • her mouth is moving ..teehee..

i notice that on every one of her video. It's like she's singing with her cello!

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • Dal tuo Stellato Soglio

  • beautiful sound...she is great!!

  • Sounds like something he wrote right after he got laid :)

  • lmao xD

now, I cant take this music seriously xD

  • @UEGGaara HAhahahaha......i can definitely see that. Good reference. LOL

  • increibleeee sencillamente majestuoso, maravilloso, una linda interpretacion.....

  • wow, she's awesome!

she must be a prodigy, she looks so young, yet she can kick major butt at cello

she's so purdy in that dress too!!! =)

  • she is young^^ 23 when this video was made

  • I think she was a child prodigy... I think there's a video somewhere on here of her at 13. At least, I think it's the same Hanna Chang.

  • Of course it is. xD there's not many hanna changs

  • @blackdelphinium Like the spelling of "pretty" as "purdy"

And yes, she is real purdy

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • Fabulous performance! The dress is a bit too provacative, though.

  • Next to the playing - the dress is not in the least provocative! Especially the harmonics (eg. 1:40 - 2:05 and 7:00 - 7:25) - now that is what I call provocative - Han-na sends me. I guess I have to admit that the dress is provocative at 7:25 but in that case, I think it fits the performance - WOW!

  • Too provocative? You're obviously over sexed and under privileged.

  • whoa! look at her hands move at 5:10 !!!!!!!!

  • wow... she plays as if she was playing with violin. amazing.

  • has anyone heard the tortellier version? I had it on vinyl but can't get it on CD anywhere (maybe delete?)

has anyone seen/heard it on this interweb thinggy?

  • holy shit man thats freaken awesome. omg thats amazing

  • Listen to Navarra's interpetation-it is gorgeous. His tempo is quicker than Han Na Chang's, but feels much more natural.

  • I went and listened to Navarra's interpretation and, while faster, I didn't find it "more natural." Chang's interpretation is more musical and moving to me. Navarra's version seemed to almost focus on speed and was scratchy compared to Chang's - maybe due to when it was recorded. It is a delightful piece of cello music in any case.

  • Bravo!!

  • awesome....

    I really like it!!!!

Have you ever listened on bass? it's better on cello than bass...

  • omg almost perfect, except A string not in tune!!!

  • Man I hate the fake harmonics so much!!! Grr. Can someone provide an effective method of practicing them for me? Thx.

  • mm not really, fake harmonycs are taff you should practise maybe just the finger with the one you arae pushing and then try to put the other, play close to the bridge that helps, and also play them with clean strins

bye, they will come sometime dont worry

  • klassnaya tetka, no eto ona kak-to slishkom ostervenelo igraet))

  • hahaha_))) tak v etom i kaif!

  • she didnt really live up to her rep. in this one...but her octaves were amazing. harmonics in the high position were off too, but still, the fake harmonics/octaves were crazy.

  • it seems like they are hard

  • amazing

  • smazing

  • sunny:)

  • OMG..

Han-Na Chang always makes me cry..

    she's really shine..lol

  • is it true that cello play bass a treble clef

  • Absolutely beautiful!! Great interpretation! She's a Cello Paganini!! I love the harmonics!! clap clap clap!

  • she's not acting arrogant! she's expressing the way she feels about the piece!

  • @vegetablet There is a difference between arrogance, and confidence. She plays with the confidence of one that is accompaning her soul.

  • Brava! Brava! Brava! amazing. An inspiration to all cellists. Definitely should have five stars!

  • don't limit yourself to only one interpretation of music. It just shows your closed-mindedness about music.

  • Yes, but perhaps can you do the same... watch navarra's!!!! and many other!

  • nice nice .... very nice

  • Man.. her artificial harmonic sounds really good.

  • hell yes

  • did she play like an octave higher in alot of parts?

  • are you talking about those extremely high notes

  • Yeah she did, it's not like that in the score. She was decorating it at times, like where she did the long slides.

  • correct... theres specific positions on the fingerboard that you put one finger.. then with the other finger you play 2 octaves higher. those are difficult. the ones shes doing are just lightly pressing the string in various places to produce a flute-like sound an octave higher than what the normal note is. its pretty simple actually. once you learn the positions. Vibrato is much more difficult, though, in the harmonic positions

  • witch ones are the hard one

  • No you put your thumb down on the note 4th below.

  • Hana Chan.... now i'm a fan O_O

She play her cello so well... and she looks like she's amusing! She PLAY. That's good!

  • 7:16...

  • I wish Paganini had written a Cello Concerto

  • Paganini is not Bethoven She mees understand something

  • this sounds a lot better on the violin (originally on the G-String) but it's still fucking difficult of a piece

  • This is amazing. Han-Na did this piece the best. Wonderful!!

  • How does she get those high notes in the middle of the A string?

    Amazing performance by Ms. Chang!

  • It's called fasle hormonics she barly press the string

  • its calld a stident

  • theyre harmonics.. if you lightly press down on the string without touching the fingerboard, it will make a sound an octave higher than the original note. you can also go two octaves higher if you depress the string fully with one finger and lightly press the string in a different place higher than that of the first finger. it doesnt sound to pretty though, at first. :)

  • tell me more a bout these please i never did understand these i just know how to do them

  • is all this on one sting

  • yes, this is. This piece is technically titled, "Variations on One String," and as you can see the A string. Han Na Chang is just brilliant.

  • thank you ur nice i love you

  • this has an irish fell to me

  • ME TO HOPE TO MEET HER SOME DAY!

  • 5 stars here. anyone knows whats the name of the musicians on her background?

  • Why does this only have 3 stars? It's better than that..

  • thank you SO MUCH for these videos. my students love them!!

  • Bravo!!

  • spectacular!

  • wow, how old is she now? The last time I saw her she was about 12....

  • she's 25 if I'm right

  • did u all hear those glissondos

  • yeah, very neat glissondos
