Honestly, even though I wouldn't necessarily put this at my #1 spot, I have to say I'm glad it's a song from a relatively unknown series. There are too many lists with World Revolution, Dancing Mad, The Battle For Everyone's Souls, etc. Even though they're amazing songs in their own right, it's good that lesser known music that is just as good if not better than those classics gets more well-known.

The sep card is hardly enough, if anything someone was given the plot and came up with OWA to fit the guy thats it. I believe that the best rpgs or boss theme that r truly great is when the artist can get in touch with the story of char. When that happens something great is made. for example, dot hack. MMX, Tekken, KH, Devil May Cry.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to your selection. I have but one complaint: where is Chrono Cross' People Imprisioned by Destiny? The battle with Miguel was sad enough and that song nailed it just right. It casts shivers up my spine even today.
Man I couldn't forget this music that made the battle with Leonhardt epic. I felt sad when the Weissman killed him though, considering the complex relationship he had to go through with Joshua that made it one of the most emotional scenes in the game.
I was at first skeptical about this ranking since "The Black Knight" from Fire Emblem Path of Radiance and "The End of a Thought" from Tales of Symphonia were on the last half, but hearing "Le Ali del Principio" from Baten Kaitos Origins at #3 (as well as many other amazing songs from the first half) had me regain some faith in your choices, SetyII.
I must admit though, that this song rightfully deserves its first place in this ranking.
Sora no Kiseki the 1st is out on PSP right now, and they're planning to put the entire trilogy on PSP. I can't wait to play the fight this song belongs to.

@goldman77700 Here's my pretty basic test. Play the music to someone who has never played the game, and do not tell them what kind of music it is. If they do not come up with "battle music" in the first 3 guesses, it is not battle music.

@goldman77700 It's a perfectly fine song. It is also completely horrible battle music, and I wouldn't put it on my list of top 1000, nevermind in position #1. Of course, the entire list is ridiculous, with its extreme over-emphasis on jrpgs. But this one at #1? Please. This is dramatic cutscene music, not for fighting.

Weak choice for #1. Sure, it's a solid song, but not a top contender. The lead melody is rambling, and especially for when it was released, the string lead lacks a proper attack. Honestly I'd peg this as an early PSX game from that one ost track, having no previous knowledge of the game franchise.
My only problem with this song's inclusion in the list is that it's *technically* an event theme, but I'd be a fool to disagree that it's one of the finest songs in all of gaming. Great list, all of it!
Just went through your whole list. Great taste. Was a bit disappointed I did not see anything from Okami, I thought that game, artistically, was a great rendition. Highly underrated as well.
I've never played this game, but I bet such an epic song might take place when you're fighting your beloved brother who turned evil or something like that... A truly painful event I imagine. That's awesome anyway.

@Matu5e Well I feel the same way about your description. I don't think it does the song justice, no offense. I definitely get a feeling of not just some kind of love story but war mixed in there too but that's just my opinion.

@goldman77700 Here's my pretty basic test. Play the music to someone who has never played the game, and do not tell them what kind of music it is. If they do not come up with "battle music" in the first 3 guesses, it is not battle music.

@Matu5e Lol, flawed test. Let's reverse it: Let them listen to music that sounds like a battle theme but wasn't used as such but if they keep insisting it is does it make it 1?
Also let me quote another commenter here, HolyDragonSword, "Silver Will isn't the typical "fury music with a splash of carmina burana", it's meant to evoke multiple feelings, bringing a sort of peace to swim amidst the chaos. @goldman77700 It's a perfectly fine song. It is also completely horrible battle music, and I wouldn't put it on my list of top 1000, nevermind in position #1. Of course, the entire list is ridiculous, with its extreme over-emphasis on jrpgs. But this one at #1? Please. This is dramatic cutscene music, not for fighting.

@Matu5e nah it sounded more like the moment at the last battle ,the main character is force-ing his almost dead body just to kill the last boss just for the sake of his love/family/friends

Weak choice for #1. Sure, it's a solid song, but not a top contender. The lead melody is rambling, and especially for when it was released, the string lead lacks a proper attack. Honestly I'd peg this as an early PSX game from that one ost track, having no previous knowledge of the game franchise.

My only problem with this song's inclusion in the list is that it's *technically* an event theme, but I'd be a fool to disagree that it's one of the finest songs in all of gaming. Great list, all of it!

Just went through your whole list. Great taste. Was a bit disappointed I did not see anything from Okami, I thought that game, artistically, was a great rendition. Highly underrated as well.

I've never played this game, but I bet such an epic song might take place when you're fighting your beloved brother who turned evil or something like that... A truly painful event I imagine. That's awesome anyway.

@ihavgingervitis It'll be available possibly in 2011 on the PSP, from XSeed. Though it'll be translated as "The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky".

The song isn't BAD but I just don't think it's that great either.
It certainly SOUNDS nice (I'm a fan of violin) but I just feel like the melody isn't that great. It just doesn't really get me into the song at all.

33 People are indefinately trollers x3 636 including myself are awesome :D hehe. this is a great soundtrack and I know plenty of people would kill for a dramatic piece of song like this playing in a boss fight, it would definately get you on the edge of your seat, I just love it, end of :D
