  • Rolf Sonnemann and Klaus Krug from the University of Technology of Dresden, mentioned in passing in their 1987 book Technik und Technikwissenschaften in der Geschichte (Technology and Technical Sciences in History) that the Coandă-1910 was the world's first jet. Between 1911 and 1914, he worked as technical manager of the Bristol Aeroplane Company in UK, where he designed several aeroplanes known as Bristol-Coanda Monoplanes.

  • I am romanian and assure you Henri Coanda been romanian and did invent the air flow propultion system as we today know it as jet engine . In fact Henri did invent other things wich mostly are keept secret or has been sold to powerful nations back in time. We also did invent and we still invent great things world wide with foreign big companies who invest in our projects. See the latest invention slim 6 mm flat screen tv 2010.Unfotunately in our country they don't invest in hi-tech projects.

  • Henri Coanda did not invent the jet engine. The Germans did.

  • @ChicagoSteveBarkley check historycal facts...Henri Coanda is the inventor of the Jet Engine

germans at that time was buyers of tehnology

  • @ChicagoSteveBarkley Was the Romanian not the Germans.

  • wat if the top of that think were designed like a golf ball ( reduces drag).

  • whats the power to weight ratio

  • helicopter but just with different shape

  • @worIdcitizen You don't know too much about aviation, do you ;)

  • @worIdcitizen Kinda'... So similar, yet so different. See, the air doesn't go straight down as it does for a helicopter. It is pushed into the body of the flying thingy over here and then follows its shape, using the Coanda effect. Those little sideways flippers steer the direction of the air flow. So, the direction isn't decide by the blades, but by those funky little flippers.

  • I hope the chinese hasve great success using

    Nazi bell technology

  • l would like to see someone make a hybreed between lifter /coanda uav ....

  • Nazi ufo!!!!

  • @KungRRden1 Romanian UFO

  • I guess the most upstream is coming directly from the rotor ... not because of the coanda effect ...

  • its controlled by the little flaps on the side?

  • good stuff

  • I think its like a round wing

  • yep...that's it...pretty much...u know what coanda experimented with

  • wouldn't the fan alone fly better?

  • It'd be too unstable.

  • Actually, the hiller flying platform has, at least to date, been the most stable flying machine ever invented. It was a problem because the flying platform was difficult to steer at speed because it self righting. However, the Hiller flying platform used two contra rotating propellers inside a duct to cancel the torque of the motors. Technology was not up to the safety needs. The Coanda effect seems to have characteristics which may be superior. Interesting to say the least.

  • sweet

  • yeah but the harrier doesn´t use the coanda effect

  • why would you do this dude?

  • strange how the camera CANNOT record for more than 10 seconds.

  • This is nothing compared to what they have going on at Groom Lake NV., White Sands N.M. And another Base in Barstow Ca. The advanced propulsion technologies already in use will make Fossil fuels a thing of the past. The oil companies will drag out petroleum products for as long as their available. Trust me folks the technology is already here well beyond the R and D stage. What do you think all the secrecy surrounding area 51 is about. We already have advanced weapons.Power without oil is here

  • thanks for the info

  • You ever google earth area 51? I'll give you longitude and latitude #'s with elevation, and you can try and tell me what might be going on out there.

  • i was bein sincere...

  • Yea, and it's been here for a long time. I have a proposition for you, why wait, just make some yourself. trust me, it's not going to be released to the public. At least not outside of the select few circles.

Ah, and the s.c. A51 is a mirage. As far as logic can tell there's nothing going on *there*.

  • My I know whats a R and D stage?

  • Research and Development...

  • Oh, thanks. Stupid me...

  • Henri Coanda was a romanian genius. He is the discoverer of the jet engine.

  • he is the inventor ;) because he didn't found the jet engine in woods or something like this

  • you're right ! sorry .

  • my english was not so good when I wrote that comment....

  • lollolo

  • @prewareq he was only romanian..not a g nor jet inventor...

  • Nice model it proves the idea quite well.

  • What happened with Lifter technology? Why are they no Lifter airplanes???

  • Because the lifters are too inefficient. A lifter cannot lift its own generator.

  • Wright in google "Electrokinetic Flow Control and Propulsion for MAVs" and you'll see that you are WRONG!

  • They already have airplanes that can start flying without moving around (like a helicopter) and they are in production for the u.s. military.

  • for example?

  • lockheed f35 lightning.

  • yeah jump jets

  • Yes jump jets are nothing new. The Hawker P.1127 (predecessor of the Harrier) flew in 1960.

  • Looks very unstable.

  • Awesome!!!!

  • look up russian ufo's they've been working on them for fourty years high speed magnetic and electric current spinning in a circle will in fact defy gravity .... and yes ppl ride them O_O

  • "defy gravity"?? not sure what that means, in a sense even hot air balloons defy gravity..

  • I wish someone made a version big enough to support a person.

  • I think you'd get better stability if your electronics package, and batteries was suspended closer to the bottum of the craft.

  • This is really fascinating! Thanks.

  • Remember coanda was from romania

  • Check project Delta

  • Coanda effect can reach 3.5 mach I,m from Romania Yeeeeeee!!!!!

  • coanda is romanian savant emigrate in france. thx

  • coanda is a god....he gived u homeworks, to found out how ufo's flying

  • I`m proud of Coanda..He was Romanian and I`m from Romania, too! Good!

  • nu stiam ca un roman a facut un ufo

  • how exactly does the coanda effect work? does it "grab" more air from around the corner? what is the amplified thrust ratio compared to just the fan?

  • same idea as a wing, look up bernoulli, high speed flow over the outside creates a low pressure, and slower moving air directly below and inside the hollow hull has a higher pressure

  • every thing is a effect of something... u fall becuse the effect of gravity otherwise u would float.

  • the army tried workin on saucer shaped crafts a fair bit ago, after roswell and when flyin saucers where every, as in the media, not the skys, but the design isnt stable enough so it was scrapped, wot this guy is playin with is basically a toy

  • can "you" make this toy?

  • if you can i want it.

  • The German's reverse-engineered several alien craft and got them up in 1942-45. You can see films of them here on YouTube, but they were about as stable as this craft. Roswell was where the US knocked a couple of ETV's out of the sky. See DISCLOSURE PROJECT here on YouTube to learn more. Check out Steven Mark and Joe Cells if you're interested in making your own devices.

  • Looks like a flying lawn mower!!!! If the grass is growing up the side of a cliff wall, this is the solution!

  • attach a bowl and put a hamster in it!

  • if one the same model would be able to fly a person, would u think that if he was to land it on someone, that person would get fucked?

  • Coanda is one of the best romanian scientists ever

  • Coanda is one of the best scientists EVER. He invented the jet plane in 1910. Tell it to US boys, they'll laugh, of course. Better laugh than cry, right.

  • i got an idea for this

  • they build a real one before it could only fit one person of course the inventor flew it

  • Bravo! Fifty years ago I got copies of Coanda's patents from the US Patent Office. Very interesting.

  • Ok folks...you are looking at a scale model of the machine that will replace the helicopter, and incidentally, will one day fill the role of the mythical flying car. It has all the requirements. Large internal volume, low parts count, easy to control via a simple computer-fly by wire system, no hydraulic system needed, structurally rigid, can be flown near buildings, excellent visibility potential for the pilot...whats not to like????

  • Yes it has large volume, but it is hollow.

It is never going to be as stable as helicopter because of physical property!

  • ahh! physical property! run! actualy these are far more stable that a helicopter if built with a gyroscopic fan rather than a prop.

  • it has no autorotation capability. if you lose power you're dead. helicopters are much safer. i don't think these would ever be able to replace

  • There could be emergency retro rockets added to the bottom to soften the landing and also quick ejected large parachutes.

  • Because rockets are cheap.

  • thats the problem

  • It is so easy to settle this claim of superior design by a simple logical deduction. If this were so good, why wouldn't it have already replaced the helicopter by now? Why helicopter remains to be in the main stream of vertical aircraft research? Case closed.

  • seems like a large version would be a lot simpler and safer than a helicopter

  • ok, im confused, is this a model for an actual aircraft, is it a R/C toy, what is it?

  • what does the propellor do? lift it? har har! some UFO!

  • well, then build a saucer that is flying with gravity

  • Well I'll be, I 've seen plans and heard this talked about for years buy never seen a working model till now. More power to ya!

  • probably the most stable flight i've seen yet. well done!!

  • Reminds me...re-edit with the Styx tune "Too Much Time on My Hands."!

  • Impressive rate of climb and control. I wasn't trying to meditate so the sound of the engine didn't bother me at all. Nicely done

  • The music is all tranquil and soothing but then it is ruined by this stupid machines loud engine... you can buy saucers that fly better than this at K-mart in the toy section.

  • Your completely wrong fool, they dont sell that at K-mart you dummy, this is hi tech, theyre sold at Wal-mart, in the toy section.
