  • i dunno why you guys respect kanazawa so much in kata terms.... i mean he could be an example as a master but he sucks doing katas... i mean slow movements, unbalance betwen legs and arms at the end of each movement, he doesnt look to where he is moving before he moves(facial expression) etc..

what i mean with this comment is if you wanna learn the moves of this kata yeah you could learn them by watching his videos but for competion purposes please find another example to follow

    oss sensei

  • This comment of yours is absolute rubbish.I can not even respond to it,because it has no basis of knowledge.

  • @SKIFTIGER sure dude i bet you are yellow belt

  • You have once again demonstrated your pure knowledge of Karatedo which is corrupted by a narraw minded brain.Good Luck with your developement ,which will be very slow from what we have learnt. You will never be like Kancho Kanazawa, will never ever reach his knowledge, wisdom and e.t.c I have had the firtune of been with Kancho Kanazawa,Abe Shihan,Osaka Shihan,Kasuya Shihan and Naka Shihan.

  • @SKIFTIGER congratulations to you lol if you READ my coment i talk about competition purposes....

you think this guy is a good nodel for that? dont make me lauth...

  • Este katá é o Gojushiho-Dai. O enunciado está errado, informando que é o Gojushiho-Sho!

  • @Jadilsonk dependendo da organização, os nomes são trocados.

  • that is goju shi ho DAI!! no SHO

  • @Tonducha IN shotokan this is goju shi ho sho. Apparently in other styles they are switched. no matter. It is a wicked cool kata. Has anyone else read Bill Burgers 5 Years One Kata? He takes this kata apart move by move. It is not the standard way of looking at this kata (rather shall we say "historical") but it is very pragmatic and useful.

  • whats the difference between this and gojushiho dai?

  • this is gojushio dai... isn't it?

  • gojushiho dai and sho switches places in shotokan sometimes.

    Its a funny story actually.

It traces back to a demo where a very high ranking shotokan JKA guy made a mistake. He called out Dai, but did Sho (or if it was called ot Sho and did Dai).

Rather than calling him out on his mistake, several of his juniors assumed he was doing it right and they had it wrong, and changed the names of the kata themself. As a result many still use the "reverse" naming.

  • thanks for the clarification!!!

  • SKIF= gojushiho sho

    JKA= gojushiho dai

  • it is if you're from an association that doesnthave a numpty muddle their words up and pass it off as being correct lol.

oh those silly proud japs, he should have committed seppuka if he was that embarrassed!

  • I also do shotokan, this is infact gojushiho sho

  • Comment removed

  • i thing that is diferent, depends of the school each sensei have his own style, if you can see luca valdesi and this sensei is the same kata but wiht alot differents moves......

  • don't you mean NIHHONIZE

  • in SKIF, this is gojushiho sho

  • its not gojushi ho sho but dai

  • i do gojushiho completely different

  • he messed up he posted the video thinking it was a different kata

  • In the SKIF (Shotokan Karate International Federation), the club he started, Gojushiho Sho and Dai are switched.

  • I do not "talk on high", I am not condescending. I am stating what is obvious, and historically correct. Strikes were changed to blocks, and the hand strikes were changed in their configurations. Since the original ancient methods were changed, therefore anyone can change anything. What he is doing is not the original methods, but sanatized for competition. The "back stance" is a worthless stance, fudo dachi is taken from the "Noh" plays and are more for visual rather than combat. Free your mind

  • The question is not hard to answer whatsoever. I am stating what is obvious to those who don't engage in idol worshiping. Why is there such anger when I criticise Kanazawa from an empirical viewpoint. My, "rank, status, credentials" ect have no bearing on the matter. It is not up to me to have to "prove" anything, only to those who take the opposite tack to respond to the statements. Rank is meaningless. There was no rank until Funakoshi wanted to "Nipponize" karate and gave out belts.

  • I guess the real question here Frankie is on what basis do you make your comments? What benchmark do you start from? Why is this such a hard question for you to answer?

  • Frank, I do not believe I said it was wrong to see things differently in fact we should all be allowed to challenge what we do not understand or agree with. However you seem to talk from on high without shedding light on your own position. Of course you are allowed your own opinion but you speak as someone 'in the know'. We merely ask you to furnish us with information regarding your rank/status/grade/style whatever, so that we may better judge your comments in their true light.

  • the arguments over which is Dai and which is Sho are really like which side of an egg should be broken! Liberate yourselves from this nonsense! Funakoshi is to blame for this watering down of Karate Do. It was he who said that one should be a generalist, and not to go too deeply! How can one respond with moves when they now practice so many kata? Originally students learned one, or two at the most. He created false kata such as Tekki two and three. It takes a lifetime to really learn just one!

  • Frankvanqueens I have read your posts with interest but you have yet to offer any information regarding your own credentials. At 46 I have been training for 40 years now with a variety of arts and merely seek to understand where your dislike of Kanazawa originates from. On what experience or knowledge do you base these comments. We are all allowed our own thoughts and feelings on matters but given your approach some history concerning yourself may help some here understand your motives further.

  • A truly childish and immature answer. One must learn to grow in the arts, not just parrot. Idol worshiping is NOT karate do! One must open one's mind and seek to fill the void with true knowledge, not just accept at face value what one is told. This is what leads to strife in the world. Using your logic, one can therefore never criticise ANY endeavour. We cannot put people on pedestals. Empty your cup, and let me fill it! The emptiness is the usefullness!

  • makes me proud of my shihan and my up bringing...

  • Whoops screw my last comment. I think this us dai now but used to be sho.

  • This is definitely gojushiho sho. This is how i've learnt it anyway.

  • meu cu arda

  • THAT IS GOJUSHIHO DAI!!!!

  • In SKIF - Shotokan Karate International Federation - is Gojushiho Sho. The title is OK.

  • that´s interesting... I will search for information about it.

    Thanx

  • Can anyone tell me how old Shihan Hirokazu Kanazawa is?

  • in the video i dont know how old he is but now hes like 72 or older

  • strepitoso veramente bellissimo...mi sta venendo voglia di iscrivermi a karate

  • if he is not a 10 dan then what is he? are you silly? he is one of the few in the world holding a 10 th dan degree. enoeda was 9th dan. if you are not sure then dont say something stupid

  • This guy maybe jiu dan, no one really knows but evidence (how black his belt is as opposed to white because after a belt is worn long enough it turns white) shows that he has not practiced that long.

  • Yer i think hes silly, some ppl seem to think tht cos his stance doesnt touch the ground or the fact u can still see his hands move means hes rubbish, these ppl need to get a grip, he got his 10th dan for a reson

  • isso eh gojushiho dai =/

  • For ISKF/JKA this is Gojushiho Dai, but for SKIF this is Gojushiho Sho

  • thanks

  • isto é gojushiho dai?

    is this gojushiho dai

  • In SKIF (Shotokan Karate International Federation) Gojushiho Dai is Gojushiho Sho and Gojushiho Sho is Dai, diferent JKA and others organizations.

  • Do you kwon why it is so?

  • because Sensei mixed up the names one time and said it if front of many students so the names were never corrected, we were talking about this just a few months ago, someone said exactly who it was that said it wrong, but I forget who.

  • no it is gojushiho sho.
