Chris, I recognize the mic you are using....(Looks like the Sennheiser e85) but I don't recognize the wireless attachment. What is that? Also what camera are you using?Thanks.... and love the clarity of sound and vid.
furthermore. at 4:28. " this is a cold air intake"= WRONG. Cold air intakes ALWAYS have air filter MUCH further AWAY from the main engine block near the bottom of vehicle often in fender well.dodge grand caravan, 1996 mitsubishi eclipse=examples. watch Powerblock tv specifically Horsepower tv show part and you'll learn the difference in a reg ram air induction and a cold air induction. I learned this back in 2005 on spike tv sundays. sry but you needed some corrections mr fix it.
also ftr A&M makes the same performance quality after market air filters that are around the same price that require NO OILING AND IS OIL FREE. performance comparison? honestly i have not personally tested the difference yet. HOWEVER oil free is something to think about considering one less little piece of maintenance.
3:13/3:14 " the cloth filter you h ave to clean and it's more expensive " =WRONG. doesn't matter whether you put only 10k miles per year on your vehicle or 50k miles per year.1. gas savings will pay for the unit in between 3 to 7 years realistically. 2. if you've already bought the cleaning kit (often 20 bucks or less & contains 12 to 16 cleanings worth) & calculate against buying new air filters every time. it=more than 70% cheaper. & u DONT have to clean every 7k miles. more like every 12k
if you install the RIGHT kit or long enough " piping" it will be just fine people. Just depends on your make and model. I install the Spectre brand air intake performance kit on my 2005 honda civic si hatchback years ago and It has performed like a dream ever since. It netting me 1.5 more mpg and 18 more horsepower. cheers
I agree with the others, with how close that air filter is to the engine - it really needs a heatshield. additionally K&N and others sell cloth panel filters, as replacements to the original housing - so you can get a higher flow without having to replace the whole thing.
@Kdajrocks: Really? Hot air is better? Is that why they make cold air intakes and cars make more power when sucking in cooler, denser air? It's cause hot air is better? Wow, thanks! I'm gonna route my intake around my engine block tonight.
@zaafarj id recommend using a heat shield so it doesn't just suck in hot air. Cold air is what its supposed to be and thats when your gonna see performance gains. Hot air from a setup like this can/will be worse for your car/gas milege
you will not get anything better from changing a filter. because it is not real sports filter. and it is better for you stock filter :) and i like see you dont know why the car need air :P
@lockergnome In the response video your intake temps were 4 degrees warmer than outside temp, thats not a crucial amount of temp but at the end of the day it is the opposite result of what you are looking for. Stick to the product reviews and get out of the car biz
wow. really. get k&n. you will get better everything and it will be the last air filter you well ever buy. he forgot something. take the negative off the battery. reset the system and incase you accidentally touch the battery. (post to other metal) to make it go faster a) get a better car
b) v8
c) big cam, big exhaustand.
many other things.
pistons, heads, valves, valve springs, rockers, oil pump, fuel pump, new carb (if it is carbureted)
It is amazing how many people don't realize that normal "performance" upgrades actually give you better fuel economy as well. People I know never understood why I take my Corvette skiing as often as I can in the winter, but it was because the performance of the car allows me to get 41 MPG round trip in the mountains.
It is the biggest reason I am against CAFE (corporate average fuel economy) standards, because companies are forced to put those horrible stock air filters on in the first place.
@boredoutofhismind1 I don't think torque matters on your air filter. As long as you get the connection tight. Really the only area where torque is super critical is on bolts inside the engine, and then the correct procedure going beyond just simply torquing bolts. As long as the hose clamps are tight, you should be fine.
This is stupid, he really needs a cold air intake, that scoop isn't going to do much good because that air has to flow over a hot engine before it gets to the filter.
@forrest225 There is a cold air intake on the bottom. I pointed to that. It comes in at the front. MORE air is always better. "Cold" air is just denser, which lets you get more through less space, but Air from two places with a larger collection surface is better. I should show the Dyno results, but I didn't do them after each upgrade, so I don't have a good way to show this thing vs, everything I did.
@BlackwaterOpsDotCom That intake isn't going to give you much cold air at all, especially since you opened up that scoop. That scoop is going to pull in way more air than the little air intake. There really isn't much performance to be gained by this.
Sorry to burst your bubble but you won't be able to tell a difference in speed just by adding air filter. All it adds is in between 1 and 4 hp. You'll probably get just as much performance from taking your car stereo out of your car to make your car lighter. lol
@CelticsFanBoy92 which can actually make a pretty large difference cold air intakes have been known to get up to an extra 14 HP and car stereos are commonly removed to save weight and just by turning the ac off in a car you can go slightly faster
Did you know that AirFilters don't really add HP, the difference is not noticeable. Also, because the airfilter is not covered, it soaks up more dirt, whichs means that the engine gets dirtier.
damn u can make this car go much smooter just get a new motherboard with sandybridge and a i7, then just put a new Nvidia gtx 590 and you are good to go and pwn some drivers :O
These guys obviously know nothing about cars. A new air intake will do little if anything without supporting modifications- mainly a modified ecu- which will tell the car what to do with the additional air it is taking in.
What this modification will most certainly do is "heat-soak" your engine. The original airbox has a design that sucks air in specifically from the coolest source available in that particular area of the engine bay. This $45 intake does not. Keep an eye on your engine temp
@GuitarRefurbMan If I was in Death Valley I'd worry. Seattle I'm not going to over heat. The people who sell you on the "heat Soak" don't under stand thermo-dynamics and the specific heat of air. There aren't heat sinks on the engine, at 70 mph that engine is adding 2 degrees to the temp of the air coming in to the intake and because the air is at positive pressure (rather than negative pressure like you get when you take fender) I get more air at negligible difference in air temp.
this is wrong, there would be no HP increase nor better MPG from changing the air filter. You can however increase performance by changing the air box intake, also the ECU is not sophisticated enough to detect and then compensate for the additional air flow. Without a new fuel processor you would actually lose power and performance.
We've seen too many videos of these 2 guys with Chris lately. I'm afraid he is gonna kick his girlfriend out of the house and start living with these two Dudes
A mod like this is more for appearances. It makes your engine bay look cooler. The horsepower it adds is only like 4-10 horsepower at the engine. If you put in on a dyno, that translates to maybe 1 horsepower gain at the rear wheels. If even that much on a 120 horsepower engine. A 120 horsepower engine on a dyno is really approx 96 hp at the rear wheels. Lots of things can change these figures.
@windexfighter77 "maths" is technically correct depending on where you're from. But I agree, "not you maths" doesnt make sense. The "you" could have easily been a typo error.
Heatsoaked air cleaner / higher intake air temperature = less aggressive timing map from the ECM, translating into hurting actual horsepower output. I would imagine the $400 intake kit placing the filter outside the engine compartment. Take some sheet metal classes, spend $25 at the scrap yard on some material and make an intake box that works with your filter, at least then its channeled and not preheated by the turbo manifold and valve cover. Don't over-oil your filter or you'll ruin your MAF.
cut off the Catalytic Converter and put a Glasspack there. most states only go by mpg..if you start with 18 mpg and gain 8 mpg you get 26 mpg and cops don't care if it ant loud.. i live in Indiana my car gets 30 mpg and does 150mph when the cops ant looking
@ATOK2 O'Reily's had the stuff 25% off... So I quoted my price, rather than the sum of the parts... So yes, the math is "wrong" but the "price" is right.
the air filter doesnt really help unless you replace the entire cold air intake system because the filter may be sucking in more air but the pipes are still restricted so its not being used properly
@Lynxtpm I mentioned that afterwards... The Less restrictive air flow makes it go Vrrr-OOOM-Whoosh as you hear the turbo spool, and then blow off when you let off the gas. I'm apparently getting old because my thought was more noise, rather than what the kids in the parking lot said "Your car sounds like the cars in Forza"
do you have any empirical evidence proving that a better air filter improves gas mileage and engine performance? or is this just one of those anecdotal claims?
I bought one just for the amazing sound it makes :D

I would love to see more videos like this Chris. Thank you very much : )

however, that's a mini cooper S, so the gas mileage really sucks on it, just buy a mini cooper, and it will be already better...
da007man 7 months ago
@da007man I average 36 across city and highway. I drove i-80 from SF to Toledo,OH and average 44 MPG

Honestly these mods don't do jack on a road car. You're seriously wasting your money unless you go the track.

@faizanjoyia
"Your math", "not you maths". Get your spelling and grammar right.
windexfighter77 7 months ago
@windexfighter77 "maths" is technically correct depending on where you're from. But I agree, "not you maths" doesnt make sense. The "you" could have easily been a typo error.

After watching this guy fixing the electricity clip. Don't think I could trust him with anything else he wants to do. LOL

Nice hot air intake...not!

@ATOK2 O'Reily's had the stuff 25% off... So I quoted my price, rather than the sum of the parts... So yes, the math is "wrong" but the "price" is right.

I've had a buick park avenue and lesabre that had this done. 3.8 v6
mowerandmore1986 7 months ago
the air filter doesnt really help unless you replace the entire cold air intake system because the filter may be sucking in more air but the pipes are still restricted so its not being used properly
livepremium 7 months ago 2
That works for petrol cars, but what about Diesel cars? What can we do for them?
kyral210 7 months ago
@kyral210 Who says it doesn't work on diesel engines?
Lynxtpm 7 months ago
@LockerGnome you forgot something very important about this video.
You should have turned that engine on so we could listen to the intake sound!
Lynxtpm 7 months ago
@Lynxtpm I mentioned that afterwards... The Less restrictive air flow makes it go Vrrr-OOOM-Whoosh as you hear the turbo spool, and then blow off when you let off the gas. I'm apparently getting old because my thought was more noise, rather than what the kids in the parking lot said "Your car sounds like the cars in Forza"
BlackwaterOpsDotCom 7 months ago
do you have any empirical evidence proving that a better air filter improves gas mileage and engine performance? or is this just one of those anecdotal claims?
