Personally, I'd go for the New Entertainment version as it at least has a menu, chapter stops and a few extras. HOWEVER it's region 2 encoded and PAL TV format, so if you live in the US you'd need a player that is both multi-regional AND multi-standard (ie can play PAL TV format discs).
Simple solution is to hack your PC's DVD rom drive to make it multi-regional.

I personally liked this film. That's just me. I like cheesy stuff. The way this was marketed was fantastic.
If you want gore fests though probably the original August Underground (not Mordum) is the closest anyone has ever gotten to achieving the "Snuff" look.
I own Man Behind The Sun, The Guina Pig series, Cannibal Holocaust, Faces Of Death ect. It's a very interesting topic.

First of all, the film "Snuff" is NOT actually a snuff film, its just a very poorly made South american exploitation film and does NOT contain any of the scenes you mention.
Secondly, there are no such things as proper snuff films. Neither Scotland Yard nor the FBI has ever found a genuine one, so your friend is clearly an idiot!

This film was actually shot in 1971 under the title "Slaughter". It was so bad that no distributor would pick it up. It was only in 1976, when the term "Snuff" became more popular, that the film was finally released under its new title to exploit this fact. It has nothing to do with real people actually being killed.

I don't dispute that people have died on camera. However the legal definition of what constitutes a snuff film, is one where the person was deliberately killed on camera for the purpose of that film and for the purposes of sexual gratification, with the intent to distribute it afterwards.
Many killers (and indeed terrorists) may have filmed there misdeeds, but that does not constitute a snuff film in itself.

snuff films do exist. WHether this oarticular one is is of course, arguable.
But they do exist. Where there is a fetish- there will be those willing to do it. People who have died for snuff did so because they had a sexual preoccupation with their own death. How it works, I'll never understand.

Actually, having researched it further, I'm not so sold on it.
I know of films that include actual deaths, used for gratificiation purposes, but they were not created for that purpose- such as Execution videos, murder recordings, suicide for sexual purposes.
But no, having researched it, I now know that there is no conclusive evidence to support the existance of Pre-meditated, planned and consensual snuff.

On his way to John F Kennedy airport to connect with a Paris-bound flight, Findlay was planning to demonstrate his new 3-D camera to potential backers in France. Findlay and three other passengers were about to board the helicopter when its landing support collapsed.

Great, now you tell me. I watched this thing about a year back, although, I DO have to admit, that I didn't see the ending coming, and I sort of applaud their demi-realism, although the effects aren't great enough to make me actually BELIEVE that she died on camera. In fact...well, yeah, it was a cheesy ending...but maybe unexpected.
