  • Yeah, seriously, I agree. That pretentious emo thing has died off anyways. Guy even said it himself, Rites Of Spring wasn't emo. Fuck labels anyways. But if you want real emo, it was a short lived melodic style of punk in the late 80's round d.c. But emo is not some umbrella term u can use for like every band. Leave us alone with ur new generation bullshit!

  • post punk and experimental of the late 70's to late 80's was the best.

  • Emo in the 80s, 90s and the 00s were hugely different things.

  • @MarkEdwardBlacksmith Shut the fuck up with your "Hurr emo is worse over time" shit. There were a truckload of great emo bands in the 2000s and there still are. Again, people who don't know their shit spewing their shit.

  • @HoroxIsxMahxWaifu I didn't say one or the other was better, just different. No need to be so insulting.

  • @MarkEdwardBlacksmith Even if that was what you're saying, you're still fucking wrong. You're probably one those cunts who listen to Sunny Day Real Estate and suddenly know your shit.

  • @HoroxIsxMahxWaifu For example Rites Of Spring and The Promise Ring are both labelled as emo bands, but they are quite different musically, at least in my opinion. You seem to be a good bloke to talk to, but please spare me the curse words. The points you're making are quite clear without them.

  • @MarkEdwardBlacksmith Congratulations, you know how to use Google. You have a video on your channel titled "HC punk". Anyone who adds punk to the end of hardcore is a pretty cool guy who knows their shit.

  • @HoroxIsxMahxWaifu Thanks.

  • NICE !!

Makes me think of the old MDA trips back in the day here in Victoria BC ... Play bass , stay in school and stay off drugs , FUGAZI !!

  • Sorry Fugazi, The Cure can't play for you!

  • widely known? Fugazi isnt even widely known. Probaly 1% of people know who Minor Threat was.

I wish my grass was EMO so it would cut itself :-)

  • @pele6922 Surprisingly 1% of the people who comment on this video know what emo is. Everyone here is a close minded retard.

  • right! r u fucking kidding me

  • It's widely known that Fugazi are the creators of Emo. That is not a bad thing, what it turned into is a bad thing. Besides, its a label, who the hell cares? You could argue about what it is, or you can listen to it. Take your pick.

  • fantastic ... best wishes to the crew and all fans of this most excellent sound.

  • 2:30 epic

  • Egg Hunt Minor Threat Fugazi. Ian is always good.

  • nd the world.[2] Fugazi has been on indefinite hiatus since 2003.

  • Fugazi is an American post-hardcore band that formed in Washington, D.C. in 1987. The band's continual members are guitarists and vocalists Ian MacKaye and Guy Picciotto, bassist Joe Lally and drummer Brendan Canty.

Fugazi are noted for their DIY ethical stance, manner of business practice and contempt towards the music industry.[1]

Fugazi has performed numerous worldwide tours, produced six studio albums, a film and a comprehensive live series, gaining the band critical acclaim and success arou

  • This is emo?

    So emo fucking rules!

  • Fugazi shave your head and go mental.

  • emo, punk, post hardcore watever!

    Great song!!!

  • Listen up all you idiots and hello kitty fans...

    Fugazi IS NOT EMO!

Stop trying to label bands that were around before you hit puberty,as EMO!

Fuck your generation and leave mine alone!

I am an asshole and I approve this message.

  • @ROFLMMFAOatU Emo or not, this shit sucks.

  • @ROFLMMFAOatU this is first wave emocore before thirdwave emo became about straightening your hair and shopping at hot topic

  • @FireTheMarshall that '3rd' wave isnt even emo.

  • @ROFLMMFAOatU That's it! I agree man! someday they call sonic youth EMO! oh i forget EMO's are too young to know sonic youth.... :) whatch and learn EMO's.... :)

  • hai gaiz

  • Mmm,I`ve just gome to the toolbar and tapped in "emo",what I saw was disgusting........

  • If you like this check out the newer band Eat The Dog on facebook and youtube. Taking modern music in a different direction. Show your support for music coming back and check them out!

  • This was an insidiously awesome song about the attitudes behind AIDS silence and apathy during the 80's. The way he petulantly demands, "Give me the SHOT"! sends chills up my spine. Its coming around....and its coming down.

  • Emo is most Likly there to get views

  • Why the fuck is "emo" a tag?

  • @username420024

Cause this is real emo,not that mainstream shit you or your friends listen to.

  • @UffeRogue

What are you talking about? chill out and stop trying to label everything...

  • @username420024 Dude, you were the one that tried to label this song as "not emo" first.

  • @Fanta666 Look man, I'm not trying to "label" this as anything but great fucking music. You can call this disco for all I care as long as we can all acknowledge that Fugazi is an amazing band and should be appreciated for generations to come.

  • IT SPREADS IT SPREADS IT SPREADS IT

  • This song never gets old to me on this album

  • Love the opening to this as well, reminds me of The Doors

  • Post-Hardcore and Emo has been bastardized, but does it truly matter? what matters is that to us fans of everything from Fugazi, Sunny Day Real Estate, Make Do And Mend, Lifetime etc. this music always has been and will be made with honesty and because it's what the artist wanted to do, none of those things are true for most bands people label PHC/Emo, and never will be. In the end, fuck genre, only one thing matters, if it's music made with honesty, and this definitely is, what a song!

  • Reminds me a lot of Sonic Youth. No doubt SY was somewhat isnpired by Fugazi.

  • @robberblood or sonic youth influenced fugazi?

  • Pretty much my favorite Fugazi song.

  • Rites of spring.. skate rat life.

  • As someone who has followed Fugazi and Minor Threat for 25 years, I don't see the linkage with EMO, at best it is very weak linkage. If you try hard enough maybe some of the Rolling Stones could be labeled as EMO too. Fugazi/Minor Threat are among the founding fathers of punk, first thrash punk as Minor Threat, then they more modern punk with Fugazi. Ok so heres the deal; Fugazi isn't EMO, case closed. Sorry

  • Emo scheemo. This song is amazing.

  • not that i particularly hate emo, but can someone explain to me how this is it? emotional isn't the same as being angry, is it? fugazi's songs generally eschew personal lyrics in favor of highly politicized ones- not like emo at all.

  • I'm a fan of MCR and actual emo, and far from a scene kid. MCR has never claimed to be emo, on the contrary they've said outright that they never were and they don't like being associated with the term. It's the critics that lazily slap incorrect labels onto bands, and the ignorant fans that fall victim to this labeling that create the conflict between real emo and "new emo." Like I said, I like emo and MCR, and I see no real reason for there to be conflict.

  • @easierplans When talking about MCR, you really have to specify which album. On the earlier ones, yes, it's emo. There's no denying that.

But I agree with you. I don't see why I can't enjoy yesteryears post-hardcore, punk, emo, hardcore etc. While still listening to A Day To Remember and Pierce the Veil. Really.

  • I grew up on this stuff ...don't know why most the fans of this and punk always have to say negitive shit about other music, weather it be rap or whatever. Why not just say this is good shit.

  • This is not emo you faggots this is first wave post-hardcore

  • @BigPapaC47235 No, I think it's more accurately described as 2-tone glitchcore with elements of celtic baroque in a neo post-industrial hip hop context. IT'S MUSIC AND THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO IT!

  • only one dislike pretty impressive

  • @MrMicaiah123 its hard to dislike this imo

  • take it from me... you don't ever want to feel whats being described in this song... I'm kicking "the SHOT" cold turkey right now... AND NOW I'M FEELING LIKE DYING...

    don't do drugs...

  • @xs4eyes13 thats what it's about ? either way I hope you the best man

  • @xs4eyes13 the song is about AIDS, not drugs

  • Been going through a lot of punk music today and Fugazi is definitely my favorite thus far...

  • He's about to lick the side of dying, it's sort of gruesome

  • Stewie Griffin rockin' the mic!

    Genuinely though I love Fugazi

  • n n n enke is cure

  • I love how dislikers cant find this video

  • @MrDipShiz I'm sorry you someone you knew had aids

  • another one of my dads favorite songs, he said he used to skate and put up his hawk to waiting room, good for dad.

  • @VictorianVampriss Aww, god bless punk parents! XD My dad wasn't exactly punk, but he did introduce me to the Clash...

  • they are the epitome of what it means, or should be, to be rock and roll. they did what they wanted and when they wanted to do it. they didnt hold on and become attached to any part of the project except in their principles. they never sold out and paved the way for bubble gum teeny bopper pop punk crap that is used to sell you and your kids products made in china. .

  • I never licked this side of dying before??

  • genres are the most important thing about music, without genres music would suck i only listen to genres that are cool cuz im so cool that way and any genre that i don't like i don't fucking like and it is bullshit and faggy.

  • awesome live band..nuff said

  • Being from DC, nothing was better than when these guys would play at Ft. Reno park every year at the end of summer for free behind the high school Ian went to. That was DC Fugazi at its Purest! Haha.

  • i wish they would start touring again

  • SHUT the FUCK UP about labels You Bunch OF FAGGOTS! EMO, HARDCORE. Who fucking cares cant go on any music without people either leaving proper gay comments about dislikes, justin bieber, or emo's. NO ONE CARES ABOUT YOU OR WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY, SO SHUT THE FUCK UP!

  • still one of the best live acts ive ever seen

  • @ekphoric ay stuiped bitch this isent emo shit bitch! ass hole face

    go suck a dick

  • @ThrasherJesus this is emo-tive, just that this came after hardcore thats why the sound is still raw and punk-like, kids need to catch up on there history and educate yourself before going online and insulting people

  • @sixfeetdeep909 EMO? Emo didn't EXIST is the late 80's early 90's. I thought I didn't give a sh*t about genre labeling but then I saw Fugazi as EMO! I LOST my mind! You are telling "kids" to educate themselves but there is NO WAY you are old enough to have attended a Fugazi show in the late 80's early 90s (I am and have), because then you would KNOW, there was no such thing as EMO and even if there was (which again there wasn't, emo didnt exist yet), Fugazi is ANYTHING but EMO!

  • @eurylino Calm down. Who cares what one person think about it? He has a right to. Just give up and ignore that.

  • @sixfeetdeep909 EMO? Emo didn't EXIST is the late 80's early 90's. I thought I didn't give a sh*t about genre labeling but then I saw Fugazi as EMO! I LOST my mind! • Very nice emo-rock!

  • @catrileo68 this isent emo retard this was wayy before emo

  • If these guys were still around, I would jizz.

  • This isn't a genre of music it's a piece of musical fusion that the band wanted to give to everyone, but everyone is hung up on nameing and labeling shit that they have spent more time arueing about what stuff is than enjoying it, for who picks up an instrument and says "I'm gonna play this genre of music"? Noone. They say I'm gonna fucking play whatever flows out of my mind.

  • @keeperofthe7keys2 right on dude, i cant stand these fags that have to generalize a band cause they dont understand the message. i heard this album for the first time bout 4 yrs ago and been hooked since.

  • @keeperofthe7keys2 you are what people need in this world, THANKYOU!

  • @keeperofthe7keys2 thats not actually true....only GOOD music is made that way haha

  • @keeperofthe7keys2 you obviously dont play an instrument, you play an instrument on a whole different level than humans, or you didnt think that last statement over very well

structured songs dont get shit out of someones butt hole

even if you jam out and make up a neat little riff on the spot, to make a song you have to have some type of structure. otherwise only one person in the band would have any clue what was happening

agreed that fugazi is just fugazi, no genre

    like meshuggah

  • @keeperofthe7keys2 Well the punks actually said they were going to play punk music cause that was the life style they lived.

  • 80s Hardcore. 'Glueman' is one of *THE* most psycheadelic tunes one is likely to hear. Last track of this album. For straight edgers they certainly knew how to bend minds...

  • @Uberuserreal that track wasnt anywhere near the trippiest song.especially for someone who doesnt do drugs.. if you study music you can find so many crazy ways to make music. but ehh this bands pretty good. i want some of thier tunes.

  • ugh Fugazi is one of the founding bands of emo just because it has bad connotations today doesn't mean you can just retcon that

  • fugazi are characterized as the roots of emo music so shut the fuck up if you don't know anything about music history.. and if it is too hard for you to understand that fugazi are a first-type of emo music, then JUST READ the fucking lyrics of their songs.. go get fucked all of you, i am sick of stupid kids with no idea of music..

  • Straight-Edge.

  • sweet, great album

  • i like to call fugazi post-aggro-post-emo-indiecore-post-punk-post-label-pro-message-core.

but i like to spend my time catagorizing and filing things instead of enjoying the music, so what do i know.

  • I like to consider fugazi "indy" if I have to put it in any genre. They are on an independent label, after all.

  • @doughyi8u would be cool if you could spell indie correctly

  • im not labelling.i love music.

  • Ok man go read american hardcore that'll pretty much tell you how this and afew other hardcore legends started the whole emocore movement but it's still more close to hardcore punk than anything and later 80's early 90's came some pretty rad bands that just hapend to be put under another label no one liked but the music pretty good and now it's nowhere near what it used to be but there still are some bands out there that play stuff like this and the early good emo stuff but whatever it's music

  • Whatever it's origins, 'Emocore' is such a meatheaded concept. The fact that a genre name had to be given to music that had gentler aspects to it (surely all good bands have more than one dimension to them?) The implication that 'gentler' or 'melodic' or whatever equates with 'emotional' is ridiculous. All music is emotional. Hilarious. Only in America.

  • Emo meant something else back in the day.

Yes the word describes shit music today, but it used to mean something else. If anyone grew up with this music and thrived on this scene, they would agree with me. Don't let the douche bag MCR fans around today ruin that.

  • @123PullOut321

Emo"core" back in the days was indeed fucking awesome. hardcore kids with some sensitive soundscapes in the songs (Fugazi, The White Octave, Reiziger, ...), Not all in hardcore was agressive and loud...

Nowadays some crap teeny suicidal tearjerkers gave the emo word a whole different meaning. and if you're old skool hardcore you know what it al meant.

Fall out boy, Tokyo Hotel has NOTHING to do with hardcore....

    they should die...

  • @123PullOut321

Thank you. Somebody finally 'gets it'.

  • @123PullOut321 ofc music like mcr or other "emo" bands is just a bunch of scene kids!

  • @123PullOut321 can i listen both fugazi or mcr or am i not permitted?

  • @Borjagonzalo123 I apologize, my comment was a little narrow minded and I used a lazy example.

  • @123PullOut321 whats mcr?

  • @MsTABproductions A bunch of escaped mental patients on crack.

  • Good God I don't need a reason

  • there were no emo shitheads when this came out . IT IS PUNK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • DIE EMO FUCKS!!! FUCKIN PUSSYS!!!!!

  • Whoever says that this is emo needs to be dragged out onto the street and shot in the face.

  • But you've got to....

    Give me the shot

    Give me the pill

    Give me the cure

Now what you've done to my world

  • Anyone who calls Fugazi "Emo" should be shot! Fugazi are American Punk.

    End.

  • @AcidPuppy YEAH! Fuck people with opinions

  • @trenchparty

    I have an opinion... :p

  • It doesn't matter what the fucking genre is as long as you have beer it's all cool.

  • FUGAZI= "Thinking man's THRASH"

  • Comment removed

  • emo is a childish term

  • Why is it that the best music always has the stupidest arguments going on? But then again, youtube comments rarely have any purpose besides vomiting searing gouts of hatred at people on the other side of the continent :D

  • @Fuzzgue pretty much man, I dont say anything on here I wouldnt say to the person face to face.....thats why the internet is awesome

  • that label shits the reason you bastards stay ignorent

  • minor threat = hardcore for pissed off teenagers

    fugazi=hardcore for modest adults. hahahahaha

  • theres a war going on between emos and punks

  • First off, I just read that ATDI was emo. I completely disagree. Maybe they had emo vibes, but dude, they were a post-hardcore punk band. Emo, to me, brings up thoughts of Death Cab for Cutie and other more mellow, somewhat acoustic bands with whiny voices. I LOVE DCFC, don't get me wrong, but they're emo. (Even though they deny it)

I've just started listening to all of this stuff. I was led here by John Frusciante, The Mars Volta, RHCP and Joy Division. Maybe I'm wrong, but this is my opinion.

  • kinda sounds like stewie from family guy,

    anywho awesome!

  • I'd never scoff at a straight edge philosophy, just as long as I get to keep my bong

  • @bestwattman

    amen to that

  • because i have become so lame that if i can't label a band i cant listen to it god forbid you should enjoy music its meant to be categorized not listened to 4$ shows fugazi rules

  • This is a post hardcore band. not emo not post punk, but post hardcore. (they basicly invented the genre)

  • what tha fuck is emo?!?!...lol...this is not .trust me on that.

  • just enjoy the music you pussies who cares what your labeling it as.

  • @whackkk

ty .........just STFU AND ENJOY THIS AMAZING BAND.....just a "SUGGESTION" :p

  • @whackkk Something tells me we are friends in another life.

  • @whackkk

    HEIL !!!!

  • this is an emo band....learn your shit...emo is an offspring of punk.......the modern emo (or wemo) is what people perceive as emo

  • you should learn your shit

  • @andreasjohan123 dick head X

  • @andreasjohan123 and do we allways believe everything wikipedia says?

  • I disagree, Fugazi has some relation too emo(it contained members of the original emo band Rites of Spring) and they were influential on a lot of emo bands like Sunny Day Real Estate and At the Drive In but they were not emo. The thing that makes Fugazi not an emo band is that emo's lyrics tend to be very personal(with some occasional social commentary) while Fugazi's lyrics are pretty blatantly political.

  • You're hilarious. You're also probably 13 years old...

  • @mrdude1433 30 n to finish I am not a femi-nazi and I do take all of these comments to heart kept the emo ones. lifes a bitch n its not my fault all these ppl went offf on some FUGAZI. This is pure beauty

  • im sure i'll be on the recieving end of the pure insanity of teenage angst for parts of that comment below.

  • okay its not emo, this is a song about AIDS, k emo people dont write about that, fugazis alternative rock/post punk
