Yeah, seriously, I agree. That pretentious emo thing has died off anyways. Guy even said it himself, Rites Of Spring wasn't emo. Fuck labels anyways. But if you want real emo, it was a short lived melodic style of punk in the late 80's round d.c. But emo is not some umbrella term u can use for like every band. Leave us alone with ur new generation bullshit!
@MarkEdwardBlacksmith Shut the fuck up with your "Hurr emo is worse over time" shit. There were a truckload of great emo bands in the 2000s and there still are. Again, people who don't know their shit spewing their shit.
@MarkEdwardBlacksmith Even if that was what you're saying, you're still fucking wrong. You're probably one those cunts who listen to Sunny Day Real Estate and suddenly know your shit.
@HoroxIsxMahxWaifu For example Rites Of Spring and The Promise Ring are both labelled as emo bands, but they are quite different musically, at least in my opinion. You seem to be a good bloke to talk to, but please spare me the curse words. The points you're making are quite clear without them.
@MarkEdwardBlacksmith Congratulations, you know how to use Google. You have a video on your channel titled "HC punk". Anyone who adds punk to the end of hardcore is a pretty cool guy who knows their shit.
It's widely known that Fugazi are the creators of Emo. That is not a bad thing, what it turned into is a bad thing. Besides, its a label, who the hell cares? You could argue about what it is, or you can listen to it. Take your pick.
Fugazi is an American post-hardcore band that formed in Washington, D.C. in 1987. The band's continual members are guitarists and vocalists Ian MacKaye and Guy Picciotto, bassist Joe Lally and drummer Brendan Canty.
Fugazi are noted for their DIY ethical stance, manner of business practice and contempt towards the music industry.[1]
Fugazi has performed numerous worldwide tours, produced six studio albums, a film and a comprehensive live series, gaining the band critical acclaim and success arou

This was an insidiously awesome song about the attitudes behind AIDS silence and apathy during the 80's. The way he petulantly demands, "Give me the SHOT"! sends chills up my spine. Its coming around....and its coming down.
@Fanta666 Look man, I'm not trying to "label" this as anything but great fucking music. You can call this disco for all I care as long as we can all acknowledge that Fugazi is an amazing band and should be appreciated for generations to come.
Post-Hardcore and Emo has been bastardized, but does it truly matter? what matters is that to us fans of everything from Fugazi, Sunny Day Real Estate, Make Do And Mend, Lifetime etc. this music always has been and will be made with honesty and because it's what the artist wanted to do, none of those things are true for most bands people label PHC/Emo, and never will be. In the end, fuck genre, only one thing matters, if it's music made with honesty, and this definitely is, what a song!
As someone who has followed Fugazi and Minor Threat for 25 years, I don't see the linkage with EMO, at best it is very weak linkage. If you try hard enough maybe some of the Rolling Stones could be labeled as EMO too. Fugazi/Minor Threat are among the founding fathers of punk, first thrash punk as Minor Threat, then they more modern punk with Fugazi. Ok so heres the deal; Fugazi isn't EMO, case closed. Sorry
not that i particularly hate emo, but can someone explain to me how this is it? emotional isn't the same as being angry, is it? fugazi's songs generally eschew personal lyrics in favor of highly politicized ones- not like emo at all.
I'm a fan of MCR and actual emo, and far from a scene kid. MCR has never claimed to be emo, on the contrary they've said outright that they never were and they don't like being associated with the term. It's the critics that lazily slap incorrect labels onto bands, and the ignorant fans that fall victim to this labeling that create the conflict between real emo and "new emo." Like I said, I like emo and MCR, and I see no real reason for there to be conflict.
@easierplans When talking about MCR, you really have to specify which album. On the earlier ones, yes, it's emo. There's no denying that.
But I agree with you. I don't see why I can't enjoy yesteryears post-hardcore, punk, emo, hardcore etc. While still listening to A Day To Remember and Pierce the Veil. Really.
I grew up on this stuff ...don't know why most the fans of this and punk always have to say negitive shit about other music, weather it be rap or whatever. Why not just say this is good shit.
@BigPapaC47235 No, I think it's more accurately described as 2-tone glitchcore with elements of celtic baroque in a neo post-industrial hip hop context. IT'S MUSIC AND THAT'S ALL THERE IS TO IT!
take it from me... you don't ever want to feel whats being described in this song... I'm kicking "the SHOT" cold turkey right now... AND NOW I'M FEELING LIKE DYING...

This isn't a genre of music it's a piece of musical fusion that the band wanted to give to everyone, but everyone is hung up on nameing and labeling shit that they have spent more time arueing about what stuff is than enjoying it, for who picks up an instrument and says "I'm gonna play this genre of music"? Noone. They say I'm gonna fucking play whatever flows out of my mind.
@keeperofthe7keys2 right on dude, i cant stand these fags that have to generalize a band cause they dont understand the message. i heard this album for the first time bout 4 yrs ago and been hooked since.
@keeperofthe7keys2 you obviously dont play an instrument, you play an instrument on a whole different level than humans, or you didnt think that last statement over very well
structured songs dont get shit out of someones butt hole
even if you jam out and make up a neat little riff on the spot, to make a song you have to have some type of structure. otherwise only one person in the band would have any clue what was happening
80s Hardcore. 'Glueman' is one of *THE* most psycheadelic tunes one is likely to hear. Last track of this album. For straight edgers they certainly knew how to bend minds...
@Uberuserreal that track wasnt anywhere near the trippiest song.especially for someone who doesnt do drugs.. if you study music you can find so many crazy ways to make music. but ehh this bands pretty good. i want some of thier tunes.
fugazi are characterized as the roots of emo music so shut the fuck up if you don't know anything about music history.. and if it is too hard for you to understand that fugazi are a first-type of emo music, then JUST READ the fucking lyrics of their songs.. go get fucked all of you, i am sick of stupid kids with no idea of music..
Ok man go read american hardcore that'll pretty much tell you how this and afew other hardcore legends started the whole emocore movement but it's still more close to hardcore punk than anything and later 80's early 90's came some pretty rad bands that just hapend to be put under another label no one liked but the music pretty good and now it's nowhere near what it used to be but there still are some bands out there that play stuff like this and the early good emo stuff but whatever it's music
Whatever it's origins, 'Emocore' is such a meatheaded concept. The fact that a genre name had to be given to music that had gentler aspects to it (surely all good bands have more than one dimension to them?) The implication that 'gentler' or 'melodic' or whatever equates with 'emotional' is ridiculous. All music is emotional. Hilarious. Only in America.
Emo"core" back in the days was indeed fucking awesome. hardcore kids with some sensitive soundscapes in the songs (Fugazi, The White Octave, Reiziger, ...), Not all in hardcore was agressive and loud...
Nowadays some crap teeny suicidal tearjerkers gave the emo word a whole different meaning. and if you're old skool hardcore you know what it al meant.
Fall out boy, Tokyo Hotel has NOTHING to do with hardcore....
Yes the word describes shit music today, but it used to mean something else. If anyone grew up with this music and thrived on this scene, they would agree with me. Don't let the douche bag MCR fans around today ruin that.

Why is it that the best music always has the stupidest arguments going on? But then again, youtube comments rarely have any purpose besides vomiting searing gouts of hatred at people on the other side of the continent :D
First off, I just read that ATDI was emo. I completely disagree. Maybe they had emo vibes, but dude, they were a post-hardcore punk band. Emo, to me, brings up thoughts of Death Cab for Cutie and other more mellow, somewhat acoustic bands with whiny voices. I LOVE DCFC, don't get me wrong, but they're emo. (Even though they deny it)
I've just started listening to all of this stuff. I was led here by John Frusciante, The Mars Volta, RHCP and Joy Division. Maybe I'm wrong, but this is my opinion.
because i have become so lame that if i can't label a band i cant listen to it god forbid you should enjoy music its meant to be categorized not listened to 4$ shows fugazi rules
I disagree, Fugazi has some relation too emo(it contained members of the original emo band Rites of Spring) and they were influential on a lot of emo bands like Sunny Day Real Estate and At the Drive In but they were not emo. The thing that makes Fugazi not an emo band is that emo's lyrics tend to be very personal(with some occasional social commentary) while Fugazi's lyrics are pretty blatantly political.
@mrdude1433 30 n to finish I am not a femi-nazi and I do take all of these comments to heart kept the emo ones. lifes a bitch n its not my fault all these ppl went offf on some FUGAZI. This is pure beauty

80s Hardcore. 'Glueman' is one of *THE* most psycheadelic tunes one is likely to hear. Last track of this album. For straight edgers they certainly knew how to bend minds...
Uberuserreal 1 year ago
@Uberuserreal that track wasnt anywhere near the trippiest song.especially for someone who doesnt do drugs.. if you study music you can find so many crazy ways to make music. but ehh this bands pretty good. i want some of thier tunes.

ugh Fugazi is one of the founding bands of emo just because it has bad connotations today doesn't mean you can just retcon that
Nog64 1 year ago
fugazi are characterized as the roots of emo music so shut the fuck up if you don't know anything about music history.. and if it is too hard for you to understand that fugazi are a first-type of emo music, then JUST READ the fucking lyrics of their songs.. go get fucked all of you, i am sick of stupid kids with no idea of music..

i like to call fugazi post-aggro-post-emo-indiecore-post-punk-post-label-pro-message-core.
but i like to spend my time catagorizing and filing things instead of enjoying the music, so what do i know.
Bobbymitchell10 1 year ago
I like to consider fugazi "indy" if I have to put it in any genre. They are on an independent label, after all.

@doughyi8u would be cool if you could spell indie correctly

Ok man go read american hardcore that'll pretty much tell you how this and afew other hardcore legends started the whole emocore movement but it's still more close to hardcore punk than anything and later 80's early 90's came some pretty rad bands that just hapend to be put under another label no one liked but the music pretty good and now it's nowhere near what it used to be but there still are some bands out there that play stuff like this and the early good emo stuff but whatever it's music
Maninthebox21 1 year ago

Fall out boy, Tokyo Hotel has NOTHING to do with hardcore....
they should die...

Emo meant something else back in the day.
Yes the word describes shit music today, but it used to mean something else. If anyone grew up with this music and thrived on this scene, they would agree with me. Don't let the douche bag MCR fans around today ruin that.

Whether or not one agrees with the term Emo, what it was referred to then is better than what it is referred to now... You can't argue with that...

Why is it that the best music always has the stupidest arguments going on? But then again, youtube comments rarely have any purpose besides vomiting searing gouts of hatred at people on the other side of the continent :D

theres a war going on between emos and punks
A1HitterQuitter 1 year ago
First off, I just read that ATDI was emo. I completely disagree. Maybe they had emo vibes, but dude, they were a post-hardcore punk band. Emo, to me, brings up thoughts of Death Cab for Cutie and other more mellow, somewhat acoustic bands with whiny voices. I LOVE DCFC, don't get me wrong, but they're emo. (Even though they deny it)
I've just started listening to all of this stuff. I was led here by John Frusciante, The Mars Volta, RHCP and Joy Division. Maybe I'm wrong, but this is my opinion.
