There is nothing wrong with humans having monkeys in their homes, because monkeys and humans come from the same sub-species, so the monkey is in company. They can play, learn allot more than in wild, completely using their brain.

While having a bird as a pet is torture to the bird.

people that want monkeys need to keep in mind that they are still a wild animal (unlike dogs and cats) and do not make good pets. With proper knowledge and/or degrees on care, it can be a great experience, but it is not an easy pet. Especially when male monkey enter puberty.
