  • Bad ass!!

  • This is just one more reason why Jackie Chan rules!!

  • I personally think Bruce Lee was better for the job to sing the song but he was already dead :'(

  • xD ik what he says yay!!!

  • Whenever Jackie Chan does push ups, he doesn't push himself up. He pushes the entire universe down.

  • i like this one better than the Cantonese it sounds nicer

  • @esmarelda19 well, Cantonese does sound harsher...in general as a language

  • i dont know why they chose the huns in Mulan anyway. I dont rememeber ever reading about a Hun threat to china. Atilla, the huns threatened europe and Rome. It would had made more sense to choose the mongols. Timujin did threaten China.

  • @jessica5000000

Actually, there are theories stating the Huns to be the same as the Xiongnu..

And anyone having studied minimal Chinese history would know that they were a huge threat.

Also, just to push the fact that Disney was infact attempting to portray the Xiongnus is shown in Shan Yu. That was actually the title given to the leader of the Xiongnus. Voila. Done. Easy.

  • @challenging2history well i have done minimal study on chinese history. but thats about it nothing deep and extensive. My area is european

  • @jessica5000000

So is mine :) I study the world war era!

But I took a survey class concerning China. Their history is quite fascinating.

  • He's just so AWESOME.

  • I was so happy when I got my Mulan Special Edition DVD and found this video in it. I'm a HUGE Jackie Chan fan!!

  • <3 ohh my gosh.....it's times like this when he makes me proud to be chinese <3

  • Comment removed

  • Jackie Chan... you are the most bad ass person on the planet!

  • i like his cantonese better than manderin his mandarin sounds funny to me.... but still understandable. gotta love being able to understand both canto and manderin

  • @godistheway123 I got a feeling you don't know how to speak either Cantonese OR Mandarin.

  • @godistheway123 ... Jackie Chan was originally from Hong Kong and they speak Cantonese over there. If you feel his Mandarin sounds funny it was merely because he has slight accent but overall his Mandarin is still quite accurately pronounced.

I actually prefer this over his Cantonese version. Probably because I'm not quite used to the harshness present in Cantonese version.

  • @ColorMeMidori, another poster already answered this, but I just want to add the reason for the indirect translation. Because of the difference in language, translating that line literally as "I'll make a man out of you" would sound ridiculous in Mandarin. Mandarin, in this context, prefers a condition ("if you want to be a man, don't admit defeat") instead of a declaration. It's the "feel" of the language.

  • i love the pose he ends up in at 2:36, the body language just screams "suck it, haters! what!" lol

  • the part where he says i'll make a man out of your, instead, he sings :" We must be, brave and strong , dont admit defeat"

  • YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love this guy :D

  • @ColorMeMidori

Actually, the lyrics have been pretty altered, instead of "I'll make a man out of you" as in the English lyrics, he says something along the lines of "-something, something-...we must not lose"... or something like that... my chinese doesn't extend beyond conversational, but from what I can understand, if you were to translate these Chinese lyrics back to English, they would not be entirely concurrent to the original English lyrics.

  • @evanescentpeace Judging from the wording, I think he say something along the lines of "we must not lose to the Huns."

  • I'm only level one right now, but you speak it or know how to speak it. Then your kind of cheating (meaning this in a comical way from what I have learned so far) because just speaking chinese is like singing.

  • The funny thing is that i'm viet so a lot of these mandarin words (which i don't understand but btw Jackie Chan's like the best asian in the world which is probly why my daddy wanted a boy to name jackie but he settled for a girl named jackie) BUT ANYWAY, a lot of the mandarin words sound like Vietnamese words so when i use the viet part of my brain the meaning of the song is TOTALLY different xD

  • @pokemon2898 I totally didn't use the Vietnamese part of my brain until I read your comment now it's sounds so different...

  • Jackie Chan better be doing all those voices including Mulan's.

  • @slipknot8anime I truly believe he could pull it off.

  • 我敢打賭,你用谷歌翻譯閱讀本!

  • i LOVE this version of the song!

  • Jackie Chan voiced Li Shang in the Mandarin version. :)

  • 0:00-3:25 AWESOME PART!

  • he's just so fucking awesome! <3

  • 1:26 AWESOME PART!!

  • where did the jacket come from??? I love this though!

  • Jackie Chan is kick ass!

  • I'll make a Chan out of you!

    Jackie for president ! <3

  • @Malvaggia you stupid

  • @Gardenstatehomecomin you're*

  • Donny Osmond was the singing voice of Shang Yu...

  • @LemonadeStand31 Li Shang is his name. Shan Yu is the leader fo the huns, they're not the same person

  • why are the lyrics nan ti zi when the titel says mandarin

  • Comment removed

  • @ColorMeMidori

the mandarin version doesn't directly translate the line 'how can i make a man out of you'

instead it is something along the line of 'if you want to become a man, you can't give up'

so 'wo' is not used in the mandarin line at all

    hope that helps ! =D

  • @randomdudett What this person said.

  • Wow, Jackie Chans singing is golden <3

I love the power behind it :D

So, I'll sing along without even being able to pronounce everything right xD

  • i didnt know china allowed singing. in communist china, singing sign u!

  • @pcortes1987 wtf? why wouldnt they allow singing?

  • @pcortes1987 you are thinking of saudi arabia. that's the only country on earth that bans singing. and it's due to religious reasons. China doesn't have a problem with singing because 1. communists don't care about religion. 2. there is an ancient tradition of singing and music in china

  • I GOT SO EXCITED WHEN I FOUND THIS A FEW YEARS AGO AND AM NOW REMEMBERING IT BECAUSE IT WAS EITHER MULAN OR ALADIN FOR OUR MOVIE NIGHT AND I DECIDED ON MULAN BECAUSE I LOVE THIS SONG AND IT IS SO FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LOVE JACKIE CHAN AND I LOVE MY NINTH GRADE CLASS OF INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE STUDENTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @xXxbatlover13xXx so i heard you like caps.

  • I enjoy the mandarin version over the cantonese also. There is more power in his voice with this version. <3 Jackie sing me something!

  • gotta say prefer the mandarin.

  • he has a beautiful singing voice (spoken voice also!)

  • Try to sync it up with the Cantonese version. You have to re-sync the Canto version midway through because that version doesn't have the other characters singing...but BY GOD is it worth it.

  • @ randomdudett he isnt this is just him singing the song in maderin there is a version of canto too but he isn't the voice of shang yu O.o

  • @gr33ng3cko Jackie did both Mandarin and Cantonese versions.

  • The difference between Jackie Chan and chuck Norris, is Chuck can kick your butt, Jackie Chan can kick your butt, and then sing about how funny it was.

  • @torbittor Jackie Chan and Chuck Norris should make a love child.

  • @torbittor And The time it takes Chuck to kick your ass, that time can Jackie use on owning you totally. :)

  • @torbittor and he can kick your butt in multiple languages

  • @torbittor ahahahahhahahahah!!xD...ahahahahahhahahaha!!LOOOOOOOOOL!

  • @torbittor slight differnce, chuck norris will kick your butt, jackie chan will kick your butt into next month and then sing about how funny it was.

  • @torbittor But not before giving you a helping hand off of your ass.

  • @torbittor He also doesn't want any trabble.

  • what up with the yellow shirt?

  • @ifisas Laugh and see at the same time

  • LOVE IT!!

  • wow! props to them for making the chinese lyrics so close to the english definition! and of course it's in traditional chinese cuz technically jackie chan (li shang), coco lee (mulan), and jacky wu (mushu) are reppin' taiwan.

  • why are these lyrics in traditional characters for the Mandarin version?

  • HOLY SH*T LOVE YOU! Character SUBS!!!!

  • good

  • Thanks for uploading! im looking for the Mandarin movie to stream =/ only found China's version so far.

  • Wow.. I had no idea Jackie was the voice of Shang Yu... O____O

  • @randomdudett In Mandarin he was, but in English it was BD Wong.

  • @randomdudett lee shang hahaha

  • @untilfairtone that just bothers me now to know that i thought his name was shang yu haha i have no idea where i got that from.. ! XP

  • @randomdudett haha shan yu is the bad guy! the king of the huns. :) you got confused between lee shang and shan yu :)

  • @randomdudett He wasn't.. It was Donny Osmond.

  • @MizzCrazieMindfreak Donny Osmond sung in the English version. Jackie Chan was the voice of Shang Li in the Chinese version.

  • @randomdudett i think Jackie is the voice of Li Shang (?)

  • @randomdudett So basically Shan Yu was basically encouraging his enemy to kick his ass? Wow, irony...

  • @randomdudett Don't think he is. Pretty sure he only did the singing voice.

  • @randomdudett

    That's because he wasn't.

  • @randomdudett lol Donny Osmond
