Nice - gonna have to give that a go myself. Regarding the battery position for centre of gravity, do you have the 2200 lipo pushed all the way back into the battery pocket on the plane - I run 2250 lipos in my rad and just want to know if you adjusted the cg specifically for hovering. Cheers :-)
Thanks for the posting, brilliant flying! I bought the Radian model to teach my grandson to fly models, but he is more interested in computer games! My 90 year old Dad (ex RAF Lancaster Pilot), loved watching the model soar at Clacton cliffs and also controlling a RC model for the first time! I note you use a 2200mAh battery for prop- hanging, is this correct? Any other mods ? Many thanks
@doffincodger hi there, yes 2200mah is a good all round battery - i recommend it if learning to fly because it makes the plane slightly nose heavy... cheers
@BansheeFifteen hence the reason for me posting the video... if it was just a normal parkzone radian flying around i dont think the video would be very interesting... im sure there are many more on the internet to satisfy your needs haha
I can hover too with the stock lipo.i got like full expo on it and full elevator and rudder .when i fly and pull p,it flys like a 3d plane and hovers automaticaly, its so easy to fly!!!!!
@seanmcgrth Very true it's 5 channels with two Y-cables, but I'd advise using a 6 channel receiver and radio instead for separate ailerons so you can at least use the butterfly / crow function for landings. I don't ever want to fly without it anymore as it makes landings a short and effective piece of cake. :-) Just make sure you apply enough down to prevent it from stalling.
i got a radian too and learning RC flight with it. after some months, and after seeing other trainer models fly, I cannot say the radian is the best choice for a beginner. it takes skills to get it up in the air and to control it once in the wind. but its challenging and maybe after i finally manage to tame it, I ll buy an acrobatic plane and fly it easily. anyway, great job with the hover and slow flight. I wanna learn that too!
Nice flying. Hovering, catching, and DLG launching. You are a great flyer. What did you use for your tip colors and striping on the lower wing surface?
Thanks for reply. I think I will go with the rad to ease my way back into rc (Used to fly a WOT4 nitro so thought about flying electric for a bit more sedate flying. Question. I wana buy a rad pnp and my old radio tx and rx are a sanwa conquest, My question is this. The reciver on this uses a 4 pack of AA batteries, will I have to use them seprate from the motor power supply or can I use the main engine lipo to supply the reciver and if so wouildnt it be to much juice for it to handle?
ok what you have to know first, is you need a three or more channel receiver/tranny, which i assume it is.
the plane's controller for the motor will have a plug on it exactly the same as the 4aa battery does, and so instead of the batteries, the motor controler prettymuch has a built in 4aa battery system, so when you plug in the lipo to the motor controller, it powers up the receiver too... hope this helps!
Ahh man thanks a bundle. Was worried I would need to install 2 bat packs & no room left + all that extra weight or worse fry my reciver. Havent been back into RC for quite some years and newbie to electric although I wont miss oil covered tempremental nitros although do miss tearing up sky with WOT4 but not the 3ft trench when it ploughs the dirt. Thanks again for help & cant wait to get my rad now.
You just convinced mewhich plane to buy. looks like perfect flight conditions of no wind. was thinking of geting Typhoon 3d but radieon does the same + soaring. Will it thermal & what batter you using?. Very nice Video
hey yes these planes are great for thermal but if you really want to learn proper hovering and aerobatics, the typhoon 3D is the way to go, its up to you tho!
it looks extremely light. Any guess on the weight? looks really fun too. Im building something like it, but much smaller. Balsa construction also means that I can't play catch (a little to weak).
yeah mate, it is fairly light... if you want more info on the plane, just google parkzone radian and it will come up, my guess is round 700 grams... i havent weighed it but yeah...
thx for the quick response. I just got an engine for the plane i'm working on, I really hope the power/weight ratio is near that of this think. ~700 grams is very impressive for a 2.2m sail plane, then again, there is alot you can do with foam and carbon.
Hey Jarred, that is awesome. the hover took me by surprise...I've been flying my Radian for about a year now and concentrating on finesse but not that level...you just challenged me to new heights.
hey sorry, for some reason youtube hasnt been telling me about comment notifications... it is just your stock standard spray paint... nothing special about it really...
thanks.... for some reason youtube hasnt been telling me about comment notifications... i am very lucky where i live, and will soon be making a hydroplane... to persue a new dimetion in rc!
Aussiejarred!!! Hey, I flew in So Cal just above SadDiego on the hills just off the shoreline. That was exciting! My biggest concern was the unpredicable winds shift that was a real threat to keeping my glider from becoming a pile of sticks! The area was quite nice and will try it again in LA next time I am down there. Will be doing more slope stuff over in the Yakama area wne the winds die down this winter, if tat happens, I will be there.
hey, sorry but i accidentally deleted your comment, and hey sorry, for some reason youtube hasnt been telling me about comment notifications... thanks for the report! im glad that you can fly like it too! this plane is still going strong and having much fun!
Aussie Jarred! That is a neat vidio! Congratulations on doing the hover. I havenever tried to do that, but will think about doing that one of these days. Flew in So Cal about a month ago on the beach with my Radian. That was a blast.
