  • Ali Ballantyne has a very mild accent

  • I didn't know that the british had legos for a test pattern.

  • The IBA ETP1 test card came in a little early.

  • I think this has to be Tuesday 16th January 1990, early hours of Wednesday 17th.

  • must be 1990 or late 80s.

  • 1992, the year before the IBA would be replaced with the insipid Independent Television Commission, which was to be replaced with the even more insipid and downright ridiculous Ofcom. The ITA and the IBA were the best of the four regulatory bodies we now have to date, the last two couldn't give a toss about quality in Britis television. Mike S.

  • It was 1991 that the ITC took over from the IBA. The ITA and the IBA were the same authority just a different name to allow the control of radio. When the ITC took over from the IBA, 75% of the higher up members from the IBA made it over to the ITC. The only difference was the change in regulation thanks to the 1990 Broadcasting Act. Same people just different powers.

  • Your announcer on this sign-off is Ali Ballantyne.

  • Oh, this closedown comes down from well before 1997. Possibly between 1988 and 1991.

  • 1992 is the approximate date according to the enthusiast who sent me the tape.

  • I have often wondered how long a person could listen to test pattern bleeping sounds before losing their mind.

  • I had a friend who told me when he was depressed and had insomnia he would watch the test patterns for hours.

Probably that's why I don't talk to him very often...

  • I thought they would've changed the letters on the test pattern! The IBA was gone by 1997...

  • I'm glad they didn't because the IBA electronic card has been around since the early 1980s.

  • This video is from 1992 when the IBA were still around.

  • No. From 1 Jan 1991 the caption would have wrote NTL:CH4

  • I think you're actually right :-) My mistake!
