  • 髪型が若い(笑)

  • Just putting it out there that Shin has used tiny drums in a few other PV's that I've seen (Another morning, and Tokyo Bambi) ... Not sure about any others though lol...

  • WHAT WAS THEIR LAST ALBUM?!?!?!?

  • i was smelled.

  • Why can't we get more music like this.

  • @KamakazeBanzai I know right ?

  • This doesn't really sound like Nirvana, it just sounds like 90's grunge, which Nirvana kind of did, but they really had their own style, which was a little more heavy.

If anything, this sounds more like Blur.

  • Gooooood daaaaaaaammmmnnn iiittttttt this is my favorite Pillows song ><

  • oh yeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Fooly cooly and the pillows are as near to each other as two things can ever get.

  • amazing

  • Sounds Simmilar to Rape Me by Nirvana in th intro

  • sounds like nirvana very grungy

  • I am happy to know music still exists.

  • @24thingstodo in 1998 it existed :/

  • Its cool to think that they take influence but, powerchords and, distortion all sound the same lol.

  • 1:16 is my favorite part in the WHOLE SONG!

  • ohh yeahhh!

the pillows are one of THE BEST bands in the world.

    fact!

  • this song ROCKS!!!! DANG!

  • oh, and this song rocks my socks.

  • If this sounds like any Nirvana song, it sounds like Polly. The riff, and the music video are references to Nirvana, I think. Look at the angle of the camera at 1:14, and the way he's swimming. I bet thats a poke at a certain album cover.

  • @thec4nt1 you are so right! Sawao and the gang are very influenced by Nirvana.

  • @MrMusicismyhobby

i know, cause i'm always right. just kidding thanks for agreeing with me :) i have a lot of free time so i did a little research before posting that comment.

  • @thec4nt1 the song's intro reminds me more of free as a bird than polly, but i agree with the rest of the details you've shown.

  • who woulda known pillows could rock my world when I sleep on them all day?

  • Dammit, ever get a song stuck in you head years after you first heard it and have completely forgotten about it and think it's an original song you came up with ... could've been worse I suppose , only worked out the keyboard and guitar part until I remembered what it was, but still ... bad enough

    Do love this song though

  • man the singer DOES NOT AGE

  • This song is a tribute to Kurt Cobain which is why it sounds the way it does.

  • @Mellie really hmm, I can completely see that

  • i play orange amps <3333

  • @BRYAN323 I never said they were copying, I'm just saying this song sounds a lot like Nirvana. I guess you could say that this sounds like the Pixies, but I hear more of a Nirvana-like sound in this.

  • @Neverhooder They were around before nirvana. Pillows formed in the 80's, Nirvana formed in '90.

  • @BeGrunge I heard that Nirvana was formed in 1987 while the Pillows were formed two years later in1989.

  • @Neverhooder

The original carnation of the pillows, The Coinlocker Babies, also formed in 87.

  • I don't even know what they're saying, but the last line just kills me. Something about the way it sounds is just so...sad. And i9incher's right - you can totally hear the Nirvana in this song.

  • アウイェ~!オウイェ~!!アウイェ~!!!

  • świetna melodia :D 5/5

  • Man, Manabe's solos are truly awesome. All of them ^^

  • I knew they were nirvana influenced but damn, you can really hear it in this song.

  • @i9incher They're kind of Nirvana meets the Beatles--In other words, they're pure awesome.

  • @i9incher true that

  • probably one of there best songs

  • Without realizing it

We dreamed the same dream ....

And when I open my eyes

    I'm here with myself

    ):

  • I fucking lone this song yo

  • the drummers tiny set is funny :P

  • really good song

  • they do have a bass they just dont show him because hes a guest musician

  • What, you can't hear that? There's a bit of bass... Seriously, listen before you make an ass of yourself...

  • dont get me wrong, I love the band and this song is completly original, and they have alot of grunge influence(as shown in the video) that why look alot like nirvana

  • agree ;)

  • lol first think to my mind "Lithium"

  • Such an awesome

    solo. ((d(-_-)b))

  • that really sounds like nirvana

  • this has become like my theme song

    (i have no self control)

  • The beginning reminded me of nirvana.

  • sounds like nervana. funny usually when i think the pillows its the last other band i think about.

  • do they do any covers of other bands?

  • Yeah. They covered tons of Japanese and American/British artist.

  • I would really love to see a pillow cover of a nirvana song. I think they would play it better.

  • I agree. The only thing they might not be able to reproduce is Kurt Kobain's voice (it is one of a kind), but Sawao's voice is unique enough to put a whole new spin on a Nirvana cover.

If you're interested, the pillows covered "Breed" in San Fransisco. You can look it up on Youtube (low quality bit still good).

  • Have you heard of THE PREDATORS? It's a band that Sawao started with a couple other Japanese musicians that is basically trying to sound like Nirvana, and they cover Nirvana songs live. I have a video of them performing Breed and also Molly's Lips, which is a song that Nirvana covered (originally by The Vaselines), along with their originals. I think Sawao decided to play Breed with the pillows on a whim because they were in the US. They're not bad, but I think the pillows are way better. =)

  • they whouldn't ok because there better than nirvana

  • FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFU

  • This isnt a cover

  • reminds of me of fooly cooly

  • this is the same band... that might be why haha

  • One of the only J-rock bands I could tolerate. very melodic and with a nice alternative twist to it! I feel like I'm listening to a Japanese version of Polaris, The Pixies or even Pearl Jam! LOL

  • Wow, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks of the pixies when I think of the pillows. The pixies and the pillows are two of my favorite bands <3

  • Sawao once said he liked the Pixies so i assume he was influenced by them to some extent

  • amo a the pillows TuT

  • aaaa i freking love this band so much :D

  • Makes me want to learn japanese just so I can know what he's singing.

  • Take japanese class xD

  • I always think that every time I listen to them

  • Comment removed

  • anyone else notice those tiny drums?

  • its cause he doesnt need to compensate like people who use big drums...

    me included :'(

  • Why do these guys remind me of NIRVANA??? and yes this is a compliment, a damn good one.

  • WHOAH I WAS JUST THINKING THAT when i heard the intro!

  • Whoah you two have a point

  • The guitar plays similar in the beginning as one of Nirvana's songs, right?

I was thinking the same thing. :o

  • IUt's no surprise. These guys loved the Pixies and the Pixies were a huge influence on Nirvana. I think they liked Nirvana as well. They also liked the Beatles who were also a huge influence on Nirvana. It's all connected. lol.

  • 3:03 There's the Nirvana reference. Plus clothes and about 30 years of course

  • lol nice the Nevermind album cover. And there's also a picture of Kurt doing the same thing (with clothes).

  • PILLOWZ 4 LIF!

  • wow.i been listening to metalkore allot l8tly .its good to get back to ur roots ya kno.the offspring and the pillows were the first bands i really got into so ya.i luv the pillows!!!!greAT song ...ty so much

  • i really like grunge rock, and this bassline has the feel.

  • wow neat-o

  • haven't heard this song in forever.

makes me love it all over again.

  • Very Nirvana, especially the verses. The dive scene even looks a lot like the cover of Nevermind. Still a good song though, better than most mainstream J-Rock. Guitar Wolf is still better, lol, well, they are different.

  • Thier lead singer and rythym guitaris, Sawao loves Nirvana. which explains why they have that grunge sound in thier 90s songs.

  • they have one

  • Where is he at in their videos? :[

Not trying to say they are bad, I'm a bassist myself and it makes me feel sad.

  • After Kenji Ueda left the band, they never bothered to get an "actual" replacement of him. Rather, they use guest bassists (currently Jun Suzuki).

  • Take a look at some of their earlier songs (Naked Shuffle, Ame ni Utaeba, Tiny Boat) and listen othe bassist. That's Kenji Ueda, and the guy was brilliant. As far as I know he does solo stuff now, and still performs a live show every now and then. Really impressive artist.

Although, I won't lie, after Kenji left, the pillows' music started leaning towards what it is now (awesome, that is). so maybe some things do work out.

  • That's Tatsuya Kashima on Tiny Boat and Naked Shuffle. Talk about brilliance.

  • ...>_>;;

You're right. Damn. Well, I feel slightly retarded now~

  • you suck balls for argueing on the internet! :D yay for you!

  • Yeah, the new basist has been them for a while, they've been adding him in a few videos. Terminal Heavens rock for example. hes in that one, but because the new bassist, has showed loyalty to them for a large amount of albums, they are giving him loyalty

  • THE PILLOWS FUCKING ROCK!!!!!!

    10 out of 10!!!!!

  • omg im just in love with this song. i dont think theres a single song of theres i dont like

  • omg that was soooooo funny dude...so long sine ive heard a chuck norris joke

  • Manabe looks really young with that hair style

  • here comes the truth: The Pillows > all other music.

  • I second that lol

  • third

  • OH yeaaaaaah Oh yeah oh yeah oh yeaaaaaah.

  • - Pillow's Kick Ass .

  • Jun is in the video for terminal heavens rock, and the video for Tokyo bambiiiii!

  • omg..... burn on nirvana.... gotta love the pillows

  • nirvanaを思い出しました。

  • the pillows were playing music before, or basically the same era as Nirvana... not all alternative rock music sounds the same as Nirvana

  • idiot, they have a bass player.

he just is not an "official member" and doesn't appear in most of their PV's out of respect for the original bass player.

How dare you, sir.. how dare you..

  • actually-they've been doin japanesse tribute music since 87[?],the idea is to sound like the bands they like[sorta like zappa or the bjm]and make it more japanesse-this album is supposed 2b a tribute 2 nirvanna-that's why it sounds just like em[sorta]

  • This is bullshit. Runner's High is not a fucking Tribute album.

  • well-according to the singer-he wanted to dedicate it to nirvanna-tribute probly not best description, but, an attempt to mimic the style and still sound like pillows

  • lol fucking idiot the pillows have been around since 1987 thats almost 21 years or so your such an idiot. and they were making music even before that too

    your a dumbass

  • ass hole they still make more money than you

  • Allow me to cure your ignorance Polybun as i'm sure people have tried in the past and found it too difficult to get through to you.

The bass player isn't shown out of respect to the original bass player.

Please, try and formulate ALL your information before standing atop the soap box...

    Moron...

  • Money making tool? Isn't that what most bands DO? Make money. Every one has their own opinion, that's true but obviously The Pillows have skill otherwise they wouldn't be so famous. Nirvana's biggest song, "Smells like Teen Spirit" was what Kurt Cobain describes as "my failed attempt to write a Pixies' song". You don't know what the fuck you are talking about, bands always use other bands' styles. There is no such thing as an original idea anymore.

  • Since when is one musician more talented than another depending on how long they've been playing? And even if it was, the pillows have about 10 more years on you. So thanks for proving yourself wrong already. Dickfuck.

  • guess some people dont know much

  • What a great song! I <3 the pillows. I've never head this song before though O.o.

  • I love this song...-drool- do you know the song of the bass gutiar and the lead singer?

  • Sawao is the singer, the bassist is a stand in and doesn't appear in any of the videos due to the fact that the original bassist left the band around 1990 and Jun fills in.

  • If anyone speaks japanese you'd get that they're accually making fun of nirvana. Check out the swimming...anyone smell teen spirit? The pillows are incredibly creative and have no need to copy other musicians.

  • well, music is an art, and artists do as they please and do what is most artistic to them. The reason they play multiple things is cause thats what they want to express. Bob Dylan started doing crazy things, and fans got pissed, but then the fans realized, its his music and he can do whatever he wants.

  • Just because this song is "Nirvana Sounding" doesn't mean their a cheap J-Nirvana. Listen to their whole catalogue... you'll see their early stuff is very much Jazz like, their newer stuff is well...newer but can't be topped by their late 90's songs. Which are in a different league compared to the likes of a grunge band.

  • Personally, I think the My Foot album rivaled their Please Mr. Lostman and Runner's High albums, but that's just me.

  • My Foot is my favorite album so far X3

I mean, I love all their stuff, but I just got hooked on My Foot for some reason.

  • tell me a nirvana song or any other band that has a song that sounds like hybrid rainbow or carnival yeah there isn't anyone.

  • hello pillows been round since 1987 ty very much and hey great music usually comes in multiples just like other things humans tend to think alike u know thats why every civilization created arrows same as how many great songs are similar to other great songs and besides the pillows are oneof the 100 greatest bands in the fucking world check the fucking charts dude

  • You = internet version of a dumbass.

  • The pillows peaked.

Too bad, they're one of my favorites.

  • personally I think they are a sgood as ever, though their music is just a little differant. They can play in any style they want since they're so old.

  • lol hence that one part of this video where the person is swimming underwater, looks a lot like the cover of Nirvana's Nevermind, possibly a spoof?

  • sounds a lot like nirvana

  • well im pretty sure there were influenced a little by them...

  • well who isn't influenced by someone

  • pillows = Japanese Oasis/Nirvana

  • Word

  • i agree. i love them as much as nirvana

  • ♦truley the best band i ♥them so much may be sorta dorky lookin but their hella good!♦☺

    ♫♪♫

  • perhaps Chuck Norris used one of his world famous karate chops on his beard, his godly hands are more indestructable than his beard so his hands cut the Norris hair.

  • They HAD to have been influenced by The Beatles they have that distinct Beatles sound with alternative mixed in which = F***ing awesome! one of the few "good" bands out of Japan that could go up against some english bands here in the states if only they could sing perfectly in english ;)

  • Yes Yes I concur with your comment Yesmorelight, I believe moomoogod does deserve some type of small reward for the insight he or she provides, such as a grapefruit or a coupon

  • Love you pillows..

  • damn dude....

i forgot how old this video is...

    Japanese people never get old

  • i love the penalty life album and wake up wake up wake up

  • The tone and chord progressions they use remind me alot of Nirvana...

  • i 100% agree with you

  • manabes guitar strings were picked out of chuck norris's beard, therefore they are unbreakable, they are gods among their kind,

  • That sir, is the best thing I have read in youtube comments, ever.

Bravo sir, your wit and truth has won you a cookie.

    Well an imaginary cookie.

  • omg that was soooooo funny dude...so long sine ive heard a chuck norris joke

  • Best video, hands down. The way manabe slams his guitar for the solo is incredible.

  • I'd break a string or 6 if I punch a chord like manabe

  • lol manabe sporting the emo mop-top. But its all good because this video was before emo.

  • yeahh japanese people had that hair style long before americans did and its more of a scene kid hair cut not really emo...

  • Does anybody know the rest of this songs name(Lesser Hamster in B)its from the pillows... can somebody please tell me... i want that song so bad!

  • Lesser Hamster in Blue, from the Trip Dancer single and is also on the b-side compilation CD Another Pillows, Another Morning

  • Thank You...

  • I Tried it on Limewire but it just doesnt work for some reason...

  • Try downloading Soulseek. You can find it a lot easier on that program. slsknet org

  • LOL! at Sato's super small drum kit

  • INSTANT favorite, thats a gooood pillows song

  • Again my most favourite song of the pillows.
