If they had changed nothing it would just have been pointless. They took some chances and it didn't always work but it doesn't deserve the high level of hate it's gotten.

@Von2good Billy West, who voiced Doug and Roger, didn't like the Disney version and found it unwatchable, so he declined to resume his roles. Fred Newman, who did alot of the odd sounds (i.e. the mouth sounds) for the soundtrack of the Nick and Disney show spoke for Porkchop, Skeeter and Mr. Dink throughout all of the Nick and Disney shows. Patty, Beebe and Chalky have, I belive, had the same voice actors as well for the two shows. I don't know about Judy and some other characters, though.

Disney's Doug couldn't live up to Nick's Doug, but it's a very good spinoff (with some interesting and believable developments to the original characters, and references to events from the original show). Watching some Disney episodes lately, I was also impressed with how serious it could be, like Patti thinking about her dead mom.
