At 2:27, one of the subtitles read Vic Tokai (ビック東海), and the two characters shown are Mania Ohtorii (Madison in the English version) and Maria Haneda (Crystal in the English version) from the Battle Mania series (known as Trouble Shooter outside of Japan).
@SniperStorm7 Most of us consumers focused on home consoles than handhelds, because they were more powerful and were like the future. The handhelds were much like then-older consoles, but portable. Many consumers wanted to see how powerful technology can get.
But I agree with you, gameplay is more important than power as in strength.
i love the thousand references for all other SEGA games, like Ristar, thunder Force Series, golden Axe, Nights, alexx kids, Fantasy star, and many others!!
There's a LOT of references to the Thunder Force series here. The song (Steel Squad) is a remix of Metal Squad from Thunder Force IV. The gameplay is REALLY similar to the one in Thunder Force V. And guess who composed the last boss song ? Hyakutarou Tsukumo, aka the TFV composer.
Interesting story and ending bosses, I guess this is where the fan made flash animations of Sega Fantasy IV and Sega Fantasy VI got their inspiration from.
Anyway. Taroh's animation clip only have him insert two 100 Yen coins instead of the required three, did he got a discount since the R-720 is still in development?
SEGA had downgraded to just a VG company, but there is no other company that says "Fareweel console wars" with a game with transformable SEGA consoles :P
Actually, Sega releasing its game console division is like when IBM releasing its PC division. Sega has been making arcade games before it entered the game console industry in the 1980's and still are in the 2000's, the same with IBM and computers.
Wow how come I've never heard of this before!? I remember reading about the R-720 in EGM like 20 years ago. And the Mark II is shooting out the mercenaries from Aztec Adventure! Only Sega could do something as awesome as this - though in their present state they are not the real Sega.
Mostly because this game is so otaku / geeky related, it don't have much broad appeal.
Though with Sega releasing its Dreamcast games for the XBOX Live, it could be released for the XBOX Live, with a translation (or no translation) and no alteration at all to the game? A low budget release, just like the game itself.
There's not many Microsoft references in this game, so it's not officially offending to its home network distributor in comparison if it was released at PSN or WiiWare.
The shmup minigame is heavily influenced by Technosoft's Thunder Force games. Tetsu Okano (Astro Boy: Omega Factor and Gunstar Super Heroes) later directed Thunder Force VI for the PS2, which was developed for the Dreamcast but canceled. The section uses some assets from the canceled game.
I had this game for two years now and only have two dev teams,A & B and I only 8% of the market. I want to get to the shooter part so bad. CAN ANYONE HELP ME?
Yes, Toei Animation's coloring departement made a mistake on this scene with the color of Sonic's legs, though they did get it right at the other scenes.
I guess the difference in the colors of arms and legs confused them.
Sonic and Amy are so far the only game hedgehogs with their arms not the same as their legs, giving the impression that they're wearing sleeveless clothes. Shadow and Silver's arms and legs are in the same colors though.
- Donkey Kong (possibly, but its too grostequely deformed)
- PlayStation 3 with its controllers? A strange thing considering the PS2 is only at its its early life back then. Artistic license? An unused prototype image? Or could it be a real life Dolmexica exist and both Sega and Sony used it?
SDF-1 Macross is actually quite small despite its name, only 1,2 km long.
Anyway, one of the A R&D staff is wearing a familiar looking pilot uniform.
Anyway. I'm hoping that in the future they will done a Sci-Fi interpretation of Mega Drive and Mega CD resembling Battle 7 and City 7, plus a mix of Space Colony Ark. In the mean time, Sonic X' Blue Typhoon will do fine.
Considering on how bigger and bigger the console become. A Dreamcast probably will overlap the whole screen, while a PS3/360/Wii will probably be an entire stage by itself.
It would be interesting if a PS3/360/Wii become a Death Star like enemy.
Assuming that he didn't get injured heavily during the big battle for the defense of Sega HQ, I guess at the ending, Sonic was most presumeably assigned to guard Sega HQ, while Alex Kidd and the others pick up Chris... er, I mean Taroh.
He's more of a down to earth hedgehog instead of a space borne hedgehog. Shadow was still in development when this game was still in development though.
There are two parts of Dolmexica (the underpant looking alien artifact. Toltec-Mexican), Sega's and Dogma's.
When Yayoi used a part of Dolmexica (Sega's), she merged with it and attacked Cool, that is using his Dolmexica (Dogma's).
She forced him to merge the two parts again into one.
However the merge process failed, this leave her and him being stuck in the Dogma's part, while the Sega's part fall down and then picked up by Taroh.
It's a common thing for boys in anime to be voice-acted by women. They do it in American cartoons as well, just because once a man matures he can't get the 'young' voice right, and it's too complicated to hire actual kids.
I like the shooting game part reminds me of R-Type and Gradius *sigh* Sega should have a comeback one of these day if Sonic Next Gen is successful I don't give a damn if it gets crappy reviews from biased game sites and mags like IGN or EGM Sega needs to split away from Sammy and become a stand alone third party company! The reason the Dreamcast failed in the US is because stupid EA refused to support the Dreamcast once it hits 1 million in sales EA decided to support Sony with the PS1 and PS2!
EA was only part of the problem. The other factors included piracy (as much as I love the DC's pirating capabilities, it did help kill the system in the US), lack of DVD support, and the fact that Sega has sucked at marketing in the US ever since the Saturn (which I also love). Nowadays, it pains me to see that people would rather eat straight from Sonic Team's puckered anus than play Panzer Dragoon, NiGHTS, or Virtual-On.
Apprantly, Segagaga is happening now, when Sega is trying to make it into the top five gaming companies in the world, trying to compete against the scum called EA. Don't play the latest version of NFS. It's worse than the game before.

I don't know why I'm saying this, but why does your protagonist sound like a girl, like in Hayate the Combat Butler?
Ebb1993 4 years ago
It's a common thing for boys in anime to be voice-acted by women. They do it in American cartoons as well, just because once a man matures he can't get the 'young' voice right, and it's too complicated to hire actual kids.
kunoichii 4 years ago 2
Well, if you listen to the horrible voice acting in Mega Man 8, maybe you'll find your answer.
Ebb1993 4 years ago
@Ebb1993
Because our protagonist Taroh is around as old as Christopher Thorndyke in Sonic X. He's a tween, and tween boy sounded high pitched like a girl.
As for Hayate. He sounded high pitch because he's supposed to acted young-ish, polite, plus Hayate the Combat Butler feel quite comedical shoujo-ish.

EA's moves explained that the game industry is not about making money as it often promoted, it's about politics, as simple as that.
Anyway. In a kind of way, Sega exit the game console industry so Microsoft can enter with its Dreamcast derived XBOX.
Dreamcast is just a way to soften the the transition (technology, 3rd party developers, fans, etc).
The actual 'end' is actually Saturn.
