And no I am not a huge Celine fan, I am a much bigger Roy fan.

@lunar05 Actually the song was written for Roy Orbison in 1987 and recorded by him then, but not released until 1992, a few years after his death. which is why there are no live performances of him singing this song. Cyndi Lauper recorded her version in 1989. So her version was released first, but still 2 years after Roy recorded it. I am a Cyndi Lauper fan as well, but Roy's is the best version by far.

for someone with such a wonderful voice, it always amazes me how little she moves me.... there is a lack of palpable true emotion in her singing and perhaps it is the unnecessary Las Vegas hyper show stage posing that also detracts from her performance instead of adds to it. I am a casual Celine Dion fan, but I prefer Cyndi Lauper's version of this song by miles. Yes, Celine has an amazing voice, but so does Cyndi, and when Cyndi sings it, you can feel the emotion and longing in her voice. There is a live version of Cyndi singing this posted on YouTube; she doesn't have any backup dancers or flashy effects; she sits on a couch on the stage and sings her heart out. That sense of emotion is what is missing for me in Celine's version.

As a longtime concert goer, I just think that people should know what they are paying for. And, CD is doing a job like anyone else (i.e., getting paid for what she does). I should not go in and 'fake' my job and still expect to get paid for it. If I can't do all I should in order to truly earn that paycheck, then I should cut back.

100% agree on lip syncing it. But Celine and her music drew people to the ticket counter, it was the massive "Celine experience" they were paying for though. I was gonna go to the show but tickets were in the hundreds of dollars and almost always sold out.

I am drawn to many of her songs; but I cringe when people say 'what a voice' when it is too many times prerecorded w/all the help that studio equip.can give. I'd rather watch a singer sing live & crack on a few notes than pay for studio gloss at what is touted as a 'live' concert. At least ticket buyers should be informed of % of show that is prerecorded & then let them choose.

I don't think it matters AS much if your a sing a song "first" in a different style than it's original. I think what matters is how you sing it. Obviously Celine has made it into a smash hit, why, because she made the song her bitch, that's why. Cyndi sang it fantastic just a bit too slow in my opinion which didn't connect with many people. But when you have the worlds greatest voice singing the hec out of it in a faster beat, what's not to love?!
