  • Thank you so much! Very clear explanations...More than I've learned from my professor who I actually pay to teach me.

  • Ralph, as an online instructor in Excel I am always on the lookout for nicely done video references on different calculation techniques. This is a very well done instructional video. Thank you.

  • I would rather had you explained how to calculate the whole formula in one. I have to find commission as well as one employee's overtime pay. All in one would be best but this is good. I can make it work, I hope anyways. I have never used excel but have to do this for my final paper in my excel class. Not having good luck here. :( Thank you.

    TANKS

  • The base pay formula can be simplified from:

    =IF(E5>40,D5*40,D5*E5)

    To this:

    =MIN(40,E5)*D5

  • excellent! great idea.

  • why do use =SUM(F5,G5,H5)... It's easier to use =SUM(F5:H5)

  • most MS Office tutorials are too small to see. yours is great. thank you

  • Hi , Really Great Video, very clear. What about the 2nd part of this video, I cannot find it!!!

    Thanks

  • How does this work with just trying to figure out the OT hours? Will it work with hh,mm (hours and minutes instead of just whole hours? I need something that will just break out the ot time (minutes and/or hours) from reg time if there is OT. Thanks and hope you can help.

  • I think this is pretty good, but I wouldn't have used as many constants i.e 1.5 and 40 in your Functions. Instead, I would have made your column F header 'Base Pay Hours 40' That way you could have said, in F5 =if(E5>right($F$4,2), etc.... That way if the basic hours changes from 40 to say 42 you only have to change the 40 in F4 and not search for everything reference a 40 within your spreadsheet. The same idea could be used for the over time 1.5 as this could cahnge to double time.
