this was awesome lol it's nice to hear actual music being played and something that you can ENJOY listening to and ACTUALLY dance to...not trying to down play anyone or their skill set but juggling beats at 150 bpms or scratching battle records gets dull after a while. How many of you have ever found yourself scrolling through your ipods or music library thinking "gosh i want to hear the winning set to dmc 2009 right now" besides this is what the dmc USED to be about blending and mixing
A true hip-hop head right here!!!All you microwave, fake ass, wanna be Dj's need to crawl back into your microwaves, press start and bake on the true skillz!!Check him out on master of the mix season 2 and get yourself's schooled in how true hip-hop should be represented!!
If you didn't know, DJ P is dope as hell and he's a true TRUE BBOY. But with all of the brainwashing that goes on regarding music and taste it doesn't surprise me what some youngsters say.
Dude??? 1999? DJ P ur a sick man. F'n disgusting bro. Ty for demonstrating how to mix vinyl records. Ty. This should be a page in the "How To DJ" hand book.
Keep it Rockin P!!! Love the Sesame Street record.
@plonkerfest really, do u spin? have you ever? it's not like radio...it's ALL ABOUT ENTERTAINMENT! a dj who doesn't get into his session, doesn't have a blast, isn't worth paying.
so that's what a train wreck sounds like. I never knew tom petty or bruce hornsby could sound so wo-wo-wobbly while tries to match the beat. Is the head bobbing or lip syncing supposed to distract the crowd?
Z-trip gets all the credit for the Mash up/blend movement but it was just as much the result of Danny... Go download "Uneasy Listening" (done with Z-trip) and 'Hell on Wheels" vol. 1 and take notes.
His set reminds me of the movie 8 MIle..When Eminem, at the end of the movie had everyhead in the club jumping to his words. Then Poppa Dock had to get on afterwards and try to contest what Em had just done....He knew.. then that what ever he did. He wasn't going to win that crowd. Try coming back from that!!!

I see a lot of people talking crap, this was back in 1999, and the DMC is about creativity, and he was very creative if you ask me, think out the box, to do something nice you don't have to use all this customs records, and bs juggles, this routine was nicee \O/
@REDOXSTYLE yeah I agree... it was a different style but it was a different crowd also, they wanted something different from the DJ. Play that set today, and you get boo'd cus you'd only be copying that exact set. So you notice its been done like your favourite bicycle and cats just sometimes miss that sh*t
jesus bro, i feel bad never seeing you... i saw q-bert at turned on 2 in madison WI, mixmaster mike a couple times, but i gotta get a heads up when u comin to Minnesota next. damn man, your what i could only hope to come close to... the white rabbit-
You guys are idiots. This was in 99. This guy is the Rock Steady Dj now. He is a pioneer in mash ups! This guy was doing mash ups back in 97 in Tulsa!! If you ask me he is the one that started the whole mash craze. He has more musical talent and know how than you think!! Big ups Danny, Jeremy from Tulsa has your back!!!
if i had a year to practice this routine i wouldnt need headphones and can a routine of just cutting and mixxing cut it? he should be juggling instead of breaking but good on him cause oklahoma arent known for their djs
the best thing about that set was he didn't use battle discs and had to swap discs the old school way. DMC competitions should ban battle discs in my opinion and make jocks work for it. it's so lame when you hear a dozen jocks in a row all cutting the same disc. swapping & cuing are part of spinning too as is digging the crates.
i saw absolutely no anger or violence in that set, just a "hip hop & don't stop" celebration of life. that's the real deal!
true... he's no q-bert or noize, but he STILL has 10x the talent of any rapper. make that 20x when you throw b-boying into the mix.
this is the shee that no talent rappers ruined when they not only destroyed the ORIGINAL 3 elements, but then flipped hip-hop BACK to gangs & violence which it originally tried to END

Hey P, i know u probably don't remember me, but i remember you!!! You knocked me out of the competition that year with that set in Lawrence, Kansas. You did your thang!!! I remember they didnt allow video cameras at the DMC in Lawrence...too bad cuz when u did it in Lawrence it was a little tighter. This is my first time seeing this video, but i remembered u instantly! This was a good video, but i'm a witness.. the one in Lawrence, was flawless!!! That's why u won. Congrats! Dj CAS. Lawrence, Ks
Allot of the mixing he seemed so enthusiastic about was really out of key, i think the point of playing 2 records together is they are in time & don't clash.

Dude SHUT IT DOWN! I remember when I first saw this and I tried to hate because I was a hardcore scratch nerd, but it's all about entertainment, and he did just that. I still get a kick out of watching this.
yo, P is the hometown hero. i understand for the "hardcore heads" who aren't educated, have a hard time feeling this, But, this is turntablism at the core. It's so tight because it was a good performance. DO I LISTEN TO MASHUPS ALL DAY? NO. but this is something to be appericated. BESIDES ALL YOU PILLOWBITERS RECOGNIZE, HE'S IN THE RSC.
It also was the only routine at the DMC that year that got a standing ovation. Just because a DJ doesn't go crazy with the scratch routine, people don't want to hear it.
My personal opinion is this routine had a good deal of influence and helped start the whole "mash-up" rage.
this was awesome lol it's nice to hear actual music being played and something that you can ENJOY listening to and ACTUALLY dance to...not trying to down play anyone or their skill set but juggling beats at 150 bpms or scratching battle records gets dull after a while.

BESIDES ALL YOU PILLOWBITERS RECOGNIZE, HE'S IN THE RSC.

it got better at the end and it was funny

It also was the only routine at the DMC that year that got a standing ovation. Just because a DJ doesn't go crazy with the scratch routine, people don't want to hear it.
My personal opinion is this routine had a good deal of influence and helped start the whole "mash-up" rage.
