Good point - typically the humor in Elevator speeches is a play on words. A real estate agent might say: "I make people homeless" or "I cover you assets" for an insurance agent. Those are mild and harmless examples I have heard and they can certainly work - more often though they are a little forced. It does depend on the circumstances too. However I have heard much stronger language used (I won't post here obviously) which risks actually giving offence not just confusion. Thanks for commenting

My point is that I agree - 30 seconds is not time to make a connection, that's not the point. 30 seconds is your time to grab attention BUT how else are the 40 people in the room going to find out if you are someone they want to connect with? Also I am saying you DON'T need humor, not that you should have it!
Why am I not surprised that your response is trying to sell me something. I stick to my opinion. 30 seconds just doesn't do it - humor or not, you cannot make a connection with a group of 40 ppl in that short amount of time. I will continue attending the networking meetings that allow more time and a more intimate environment.
