Wow....Do not clip a pet bird's wings? My first cockatiel died because i was inexperienced and didn't cut her wings (she flew into a window) my friends bird flew away (from the garage when her dad opened the door for a split second) because she wanted her bird to have the freedom. Birds are pets. Face it. Cats are too and so are dogs! Theres a trick you can see on my channel where your bird can get wing exercise anyways :) Its fine for a pet bird to have freedom but it's not safe.
Awesome bird! It is funny how ignorant people will come on these channels and try to preach wisdom to experienced bird handlers. Keep on training! My bird doesn't do any "tricks" but she knows recall (call her name and she comes back to me.) She also knows how to open the battery box on my phone, television remote, xbox controller, etc. Birds are great :)
i have owned budgies and a rainbow lorikeet, sadly my lori has passed but my young budgie i have now i have taught him to crawl throughout a cardboard tube and he LOVES doing it he charges through it and waits for me to click and then he gets hypo and like jumps up and down for his treat its hilarious, and he loves riding on tech decks, i would also like to add this budgie i have now was aviary bred
@22rodneymullen22 you can use any form of noise as long its the same noise each time so your bird can make the connection that this noise means 'yay i did it right treat time!' you can make your own clicker if u dont want to buy one for example the metal eclipse mints container u can tap it with something or close the lid to make a clicking noise, you just have to be creative just make sure it produces the same noise every time

you should not train your bird to do tricks other than talking I think that they should just be free and happy and not trained to do tricks other than talking because that comes naturally
@LuckyDMI111 LEARNING comes naturally though! And with tricks, they learn. I also helps enrich their lives, because they get excersice when doing tricks, and they PLAY when doing tricks. Nothing BAD about that!
@LuckyDMI111 As long as a bird enjoys the training (which mind you most doo!) there is noting wrong, it creates a strong bond between the bird and it's owner. It also helps prevent stress during visits to the vet... Seriously Lucky have you ever had a bird?
@LuckyDMI111 Training birds to do simple tricks is a mentally stimulating activity for them, keeping them from becoming too bored or inactive. Boredom is a dangerous mental state for birds; they need lots of toys and attention to stay mentally healthy. Training like this also strengthens the bonds of trust and friendship between bird and owner. It would be much crueller to keep a bird in captivity without providing interesting activities and social interactions to keep it happy.
@LuckyDMI111 Actually. if someone really wants their bird to be happy, then playing games like this will keep them more than happy. It keeps them mentally and physically active and socially bonded with their owner. If they just sit in their cage with nothing to do but chirp merry tunes then what kinda life is that???
i want to clicker train my bird. he is happy and trusts me but when i try to teach him a trick he just doesnt care. i even try to award him with food but still he doesnt do the trick after trying so hard. what do i do
clipping a bird's wings only prives them to do some healthy exercise, and in comparison to birds with non clipped wings, their tendency to obesity increases. If you clip a bird's wings, what is it's purpose in this life if it is unable to fly?
I clipped my cockatiel wings only during the first year, for taming. After that, she was allowed to be free in the house all the time. she was only sleeping and eating in her cage.
But 5 month ago, I went out forgeting that she was on my shoulder, and she flew away because of a big noise. I called her and found her during 2 days in trees(she always answer to me),
@mbourbon09 I lost my bird exactly the same way you did, but he was carried away by the extreme high winds and I never got him back. Mine was asleep on my hat and I threw a loud aluminum can in the trash out in the garage and the garage door was open. The loud can noise scared it and flew away.
I bought a hand fed baby cockatiel and I disagree that we all should just adopt birds, birds for adoption that I have seen very often have psychological or physical problems, they are biters, pluck their feathers out or are afraid of humans so I ask why is it OUR responsibility to deal with that? If you see a hand fed, tame bird, buy him or her, try to stay away from petco, petsmart and those big chains, because they dont hand feed, go to a breeder, support them instead.
It's called a 'clicker'. It's used for what's called 'clicker training'. They can be used for dogs, birds, and I've used them for llama training! The instant the animal completes what you want it to do you click, that way in case you drop the treat or whatever the animal regards the 'click' as a 'good boy! well done!' and then you give a treat. Eventually you won't have to always give treats because they'll see the click as a reward but, I always give them a treat anyway!
I don't own any pets but my dad has a Red Tailed Hawk. and currently he is trying to train him but with the other pets interfering as in getting to close to him and moving too fast for his comfort.
Ive noticed that with my cockatiel (Rocky), when i start clicker training he becomes aggressive and angry, all that he wants to do is eat the millet seed that i give him as a treat, hes even bitten my face to get to it :P, is there any reason for this? thanks for reply's!!!
this is how i got my cockatiel my uncle had a friend who worked whith him she had a cockatiel but she couldnt take care of it anymore cuase she got no time she was goin to have him put down or go in a shop but my uncle sed dat my nephew loves birds so i took him home whe his name is charlie

c'est vrai qu'il ont besoin de beaucoup d'attention, car les oiseaux sont fait pour vivre en societe dehors! Les oiseaux deteste etre tout seule. Il s'enui facilement, ils ont besoin d'etre stimule pour etre heureux
sadly i had to give mine away last week it was causing me an eye inflammation and im soon going to be a pilot and i cant risk my eyes for a bird. i miss him alot though and i see him every couple of days also he is grreat care with my friend his actually happier than before lol
I've got two Cockatiels, and one of them doesn't really trust me as much as the other (which I've had for longer). I might get a clicker and start training them. ^^

c'est vrai qu'il ont besoin de beaucoup d'attention, car les oiseaux sont fait pour vivre en societe dehors! Les oiseaux deteste etre tout seule. Il s'enui facilement, ils ont besoin d'etre stimule pour etre heureux

I've got two Cockatiels, and one of them doesn't really trust me as much as the other (which I've had for longer). I might get a clicker and start training them. ^^
