This is the first time i used dried chickpeas, soaked the 8 to 12 hours, then made hummus. had a bad odor. i was wondering with that odor, would it digest? Since i went through all that effort, i tried it, and could only get down 2 bites.
and my stomach is already protesting. will not make again.
Whenever I've soaked chickpeas, they have STUNK to high heaven. And sprouting them? Forget about it, it's the most foul odor I've ever smelled in my life.
Seriously man do you even know what Hummus is and what the primary ingrediants are?. Sounds interesting enough but there are absolutely NO veggies in traditional hummus. Traditional hummus is very simple Chickpeas, olive oil, seasonings, and hey you forgot the tahini sesame seed paste that is what makes hummus.
@mtnluke You're such an ignorant imbecile; he isn't boiling the chickpeas so it wont exactly be the same as muhammad's arabic food stores hummus but it's MUCH healthier
No. Soy is only healthy for you in it's fermented form. (Miso, Tempe, etc...) And you have to watch out because most of the soy sold on the commercial market is a GMO food (Monsanto poison), so it's totally BAD for you.
U R wicked cute! Thanks for the instruction! After reading the comments, I am afraid to get intestinal discomfort if raw beans are not easily digested; & if in fact all dried packaged garbanzos are dried via high heat . Must research more. Updated feedback appreciated! Thanks!
Thanks for the recipe. The one thing I would've done differently is to add sesame oil, seeds or puree. It is the main flavor of hummus for me. I'm going to the store with this recipe tomorrow. ThanX!
Thanks for the great recipe! For future reference avoid using awkward people to advertise it at the end? (unless they're super excited and actually do a good job!)
I'm soaking the beans now. It better be good or "I kill you". I was thinking of blanching some or all of the beans first. I understand what you're going for, but is it really palatable, or those people just being nice?
Where is the tahini man? And in mediterranean dishes, no one ever puts tomatoes, carrots and celery in hummus. And use cumin instead of basil and use fresh parsley, tastes more authentic that way.
@rawkitchen Can I ask a real honest question? I made raw hummus just yesterday after sprouting my beans (great northern) for one day and the lime and garlic just seemed to be too much for the cup of beans. I couldnt eat it without bread/ and jam. What is wrong in my scenario?
Hey Mike, thanks for showing this. I did not realize that you could make hummus with raw chick peas. I like Hummus a lot, and can see eating this. I want to cut down on cooked foods and eat more raw.
you look healthy. i notice a lot of raw people look emaciated, but you look good and healthy like you're paying attention to not starving yourself.
this recipe looks AMAZING and I can't wait to try it, thanks for giving us such good thourough instructions for people like me who are interested in raw foods.
and does anyone know... I'm sorry I'm super new with raw... do you sprout your beans in the fridge or out in the openstyle? and is sunlight or shade best? what if it's super hot out? thank you :)
How does one sprout chickpeas then? I really want to make hummous but this isn't it. This is just ordinary hummous. Just like the stuff I used to make when I wasn't raw. ANy tips??
Celery and Hummus is the bees knees. I've said goodbye to peanut butter & celery forever. :0)

This was not a good recipe. Followed as instructed, and I do not recommend it. My partner and I both found the taste unappealing.

Is your body able to absorb all the nutrients if the chickpeas are not cooked?

@ocbc1975 Thanks, I'll bet that he didn't know the recipe for "traditional" hummus. It's nice that you shared it with us.

Why do you say soak 24 hrs or less? I've seen other recipes that say to soak the chickpeas 2 days. Great recipe, thanks for posting.

@VideoGamesSuck1 You may have a difficult time digesting them. They really are not good eaten raw.

the carrots, tomatoes and celery help sweeten the RAW chickpeas. Also, who cares if you add basil or not? Seasonings for hummus vary.

what raw things can you even serve this hummus with? (besides raw veggies)
zbijesse 2 years ago
@zbijesse You could use Pita Bread if you are not a raw vegan. Otherwise, perhaps flax crackers.

are you sure you can eat beans raw?
I thought the only kind of legumes you can eat raw are green peas, everything else is slightly poisonous?

some sprouts are poisonous for example kidney beans. do your research first

garbanzo beans come in a can and they look just like that sooo are they not raw or something if they're already in a can?
KARINinLaLaLand 3 years ago
You may already have the answer to this, but no, they're not the same.
Sprouted garbanzo beans are still kinda hard, while the ones in the can are soft (cooked).
AugustHovel 2 years ago
garbanzo beans in a can have lots of crazy chemicals - you'd never believe it! raw is better!

it's best to sprout indoors at room temperature, away from direct sunlight.

to much crap in this recipe! 4 things needed: chickpeas, garlic, evoo, and salt to taste. allthat other shit ruins the flavor of the shickpea.

I'm a 100% raw vegan
the beans are dead though :(
They were dried at very high temperatures, soaking them for 24 hours is not sprouting, just making them absorb.
To test, let them sprout, they wont because they can't, they are dead.
DARTAGNANS170 4 years ago 3
Yep, you're right. They're not fresh beans...they're dead.
YOU RUINED YOUR FIVE YEAR DIET!

Yes, put chickpeas in water, in a slightly dark or dark place, or 0,5 cm under dirt, it will sprout.
DARTAGNANS170 4 years ago
but are they raw to start off with? Suitable for a raw diet?
redfacedpresident 4 years ago
Everything is raw, so how isn't this a raw recipe?! A cooked chickpea will not sprout.

Is high-temp drying the standard procedure for all companies? That is very interesting. What if the beans were simply sun dried? Hmmmm..... I wonder?
