Which one tasted better according to you?? Actually I have tried yeast one before(not your recipe) and didn't like it much...but I guess you prefer instant than traditional, right?
In traditional recipe you need to store batter at room temperature for 24hrs??
Traditional taste great and I like that equally. But most of the time, I decide to make Jalebis all of a sudden so most of the time, I make instantly. But to me both taste great. If you don't like instant you can make batter 24hrs ahead without any yeast.
did I hear u right... u really ADDED TUMERIC POWDER/ HULDI to a sweet dish??? it has a certain smell infact quite a strong smell...I am really reluctant to try this recipe!!!
You will even forget that you really added turmeric. Give it a try and you won't be disapointed just for pinch of turmeric. Rather than adding fake colors, this is good. Rest is up to you and you won't fail ever with instant one if you follow exact recipe. Some people will not add corn starch or rice flour and then come back here telling recipe did not come out good...so...enjoy!
oh god...i just try to make the traditional one,and it turned so soft like puri and soogy...don't know why...i used baking powder and didn't add corn starch...
my mum is so angry after me,i really messed her kitchen...
If you don't add corn starch, you won't get crispy jalebis. If you don't have corn starch, you can use rice flour even but without these flours, jalebis won't be crispy. Remember that all purpose flour makes things chewy and soggy if you do not add other flours with it.
I made these and they were delicious!! just like when I was younger and my dad would take me to the indian market :D thank you so much now I know how to make these. I doubled the recipe and my whole family ate them.
Which one did you try? Instant or traditional? Jalebi gets soft if sugar syrup is not thick enough and if you do not add corn starch in batter, it won't be crispy...

Hi bhavna, Finally successful in making jalebi. This time I tried instant method and and they came out great - tasty & crunchy.Now I surely know, the batter was not good last time. Sometimes Yogurt doesn't ferment the batter well. I used to make sooji cake using Dahi in India, I made it using Yougurt and it failed too.Thank you for all your help....!
yes, I shared in one of the video of Dosa about fermentation problem here. But glad that instant method worked for you. These days, I also just follow instant one since my hubby loves instant one only....keep enjoying!
It takes little practice, next time, you make, it will little more yummier and when you make couple of time more, you will learn something new everytime and finally you will make great Jalebis like me...enjoy!
My hubby loves Jalebi a lot. I make often for him so I am planning to share more tips in my next Jalebi video for those who have lot of questions. It is very simple once it gets on your hand but initially, it takes little efforts knowing about oil temperature, batter consistancy and stuff like that. These days, in my traditional jalebi, I aslo add rice flour, for 1/2 cup plain flour, add 1-2 tbsp corn starch and 1tbsp rice flour and you will sure love crispyness
As I said earlier, If my accent is fake, it won't last long since fake things don't last long....let's see how far I can go with fake accent...cheers, enjoy!
Thanks for sharing this video, my little son is too much fond of jalebi and place where we are staying ..jalebi is not available in market .. so i tried at home and it was really nice ..and tasty ..!! I have tried traditional receipe...!!Thanks a lot for sharing food receipes and keep it up !!
Next time, keep batter little thicker and see if that works..and these days, I add rice flour and jalebis comes out great. 1 cup maida + 2 tbsp rice flour + 1 tbsp corn starch for extra crunchy jalebis...enjoy!
I tried traditional method. I searched on the net and I found the consistency of batter is important for jalebi. Jalebies are flat, if consistency of batter is not correct . I am going to try jalebi again and would let you know the result :)
I did say in video that consistancy of batter, syrup and temperature of oil are the most improtant factors for making great jalebis...you will sure learn soon...enjoy!
Hi, my Jalebis go flat in oil while frying. What is wrong. I have tried many different receipes . But they scatter in oil while frying. What to do ? --Plesae help if you can. ----Tyhansk, leela.
I tried instant method. I did keep tempreture good. is there something in batter ? Should i add some lemon juice to batter ? Will that not get flat in oil ?
No, you don't need lemon at all in batter. I am surprised and not sure what to tell since it is verye easy recipe to follow. Are you adding enough corn starch?
In making jalebi, you have used 2 spoon of "corn starch"... I'm confused here... or say, exactly I don't know "is CORN FLOUR & CORN STARCH same ?" or they both are different..... just help me out here....... so, that I can make jalebi
& also let me know "which quick rising yeast is used?" for pure vegetarians....
You can use rice flour if you have, last week I made with 1 cup plain flour + 3 tbsp rice flour and jalebis were awesome...so you can use either corn starch, corn flour or rice flour to make jalebis crispy...enjoy!
I tried this reciepie today , but after a few hours my jalebis went soft I wonder Why ? can you advise what might have gone wrong .I have taken exact measurements as you have shown .
This happens just b/c of not right consistancy of sugar syrup. If your sugar syrup is not 1 or 11/2 thread, it will get soft. When i make jalebi, they stay just as it is till we finish even after 2-3 days...Hope this helps.
Thanks a ton Bhavana Honestly I did think thats an issue so for the rest of the jalebis I again boiled the syrup a bit for 2-3 minutes.I will again try Jalebi's next week end and will let you know what happens....
Thanks for uploading this wonderful recipie.I am going to try the tuvar dal bhakri tommorrow hope I am successful.Thanks once again
I think you must make a 1 1/2 to 2 thread syrup .......I tried it again and it turned out awesome .... Also make sure that your bottle nozzle is not too small if it is cut it to make a bigger perforation....Just suggesting from my own experience ..........
Yes, sugar syrup consistancy is very important. If the consistancy of your sugra syrup is right then only jalebis will be crispy and also will shine a lot..
That's strange, I had mine for almost 3 days...it is possible that syrup might be not right consistancy or the batter. Did you make instant or traditional? Did you add exact measurement of corn starch?
@SuperVeggieDelight I think it could be the syrup. Mine was thick but not thick enough. And corn flour and corn starch are the same right? I put an approx half tbsp of corn flour.
corn starch and flour are two different things. Corn starch help to keep them crunchy for long time, on the other hand, when you use other flour such as rice, corn, it will be crispy when you make, but after couple of hours, it will loose it's crunchyness. So next time, try to follow exact recipe measurement with right ingredients and you will sure love them anytime, even after couple of days....Enjoy!
@SuperVeggieDelight Of course my attempt is to follow the recipe to the tee. So I did my research and saw on Wikipedia and it says that corn starch and cornflour are the same. It is called as cornflour in common wealth nations including India i.e. where I'm from.
Probably, I should try thicker syrup next time. And will let you know how that round turns out to be.

But don't forget that I did mention that they tasted great anyways.
Here in the USA, we have corn starch very starchy powdery and corn flour is coarse and not powder. I am glad that you liked the taste but I would love to help you to make it perfect. So let's see when you make next time. Enjoy!
hi! BHAVANA, Excellent traditional jalebi recipe. Thank you so much.i made trad. jalebi. socrunchy. my confidence became high for your views,videos,THANKS ALOT. Thank you so much for all these hard work and your precious time.
Thankz for such a nice recipe, I must say ur recipe was great, it came out perfect..... I have also got ur pizza recipe in my mind will surly try it on 14th for my mother along with lava cake.... : )
I did say that I think in video that once it is fermented for about 15-20mins, if you are not able to make it right a way then place the bottle in the fridge to prevent over fermenting. Thanx for sharing. Enjoy!
Great recipes one after the other....enjoying big time. Bhavna's recipes are the best recipe ever on the net. Thank you so much for all these hard work and your precious time.
Honestly, I am not good at making jalebis shape wise. It does taste great but the only problem with the shape. But getting better and better as I make them at least once a month these days...but believe me, you might be able to make better than me!!
Yes, very tricky. If you make just little watery and you won't be able to make good jalebi. So the consistancy of the batter is very important for this recipe. But if you add water slowly, then you can't go wrong. Enjoy!
Honestly, I just eyeball. Just keep adding slowly so you know how much to add. The reason is that even if I tell you the measurement all flours are different and they take different amount of water. Just focus on the consistancy of batter. easy to pour consistancy just like cake batter. Hope this helps. Enjoy!

Thanks for uploading this wonderful recipie.I am going to try the tuvar dal bhakri tommorrow hope I am successful.Thanks once again

Hi
Good luck for next try. And do not add tuvar dal. I make bhakris with fresh or frozen green tuvar not the dal. ENjoy!

same happended to me also.. I will try again with some more thick syrup..

@maal123
I think you must make a 1 1/2 to 2 thread syrup .......I tried it again and it turned out awesome .... Also make sure that your bottle nozzle is not too small if it is cut it to make a bigger perforation....Just suggesting from my own experience ..........

HI
Yes, sugar syrup consistancy is very important. If the consistancy of your sugra syrup is right then only jalebis will be crispy and also will shine a lot..

Hi Bhava,
I tried your jalebi recipe yesterday. It turned out to be so nice. Very yummmm! My weight conscious brother could not resist it.
But today, it has gone soggy.
Yesterday, It was nice and crispy.
Do you know why it became soggy today?

@iexperiment
Hi
That's strange, I had mine for almost 3 days...it is possible that syrup might be not right consistancy or the batter. Did you make instant or traditional? Did you add exact measurement of corn starch?
SuperVeggieDelight 1 year ago
@SuperVeggieDelight I think it could be the syrup. Mine was thick but not thick enough. And corn flour and corn starch are the same right? I put an approx half tbsp of corn flour.
iexperiment 1 year ago
@iexperiment
Hi
corn starch and flour are two different things.

But I did mention that they tasted great anyways.
Enjoy :)

@iexperiment
Hi
Here in the USA, we have corn starch very starchy powdery and corn flour is coarse and not powder. I am glad that you liked the taste but I would love to help you to make it perfect. So let's see when you make next time. Enjoy!

Hi
I did say that I think in video that once it is fermented for about 15-20mins, if you are not able to make it right a way then place the bottle in the fridge to prevent over fermenting. Thanx for sharing. Enjoy!

Hi
Honestly, I am not good at making jalebis shape wise. It does taste great but the only problem with the shape. But getting better and better as I make them at least once a month these days...but believe me, you might be able to make better than me!!
SuperVeggieDelight 1 year ago
That looks so delicious!! You make it look easy, but I but it's tricky to get the batter to make the nice shapes.
Cidtalk 1 year ago
@Cidtalk
Hi
Yes, very tricky. If you make just little watery and you won't be able to make good jalebi. So the consistancy of the batter is very important for this recipe. But if you add water slowly, then you can't go wrong. Enjoy!
SuperVeggieDelight 1 year ago
hi bhavna, great recipe...
how much water did u add in the natural fermented batter???
suppusoora 1 year ago
@suppusoora
Hi
Honestly, I just eyeball. Just keep adding slowly so you know how much to add. The reason is that even if I tell you the measurement all flours are different and they take different amount of water. Just focus on the consistancy of batter. easy to pour consistancy just like cake batter. Hope this helps. Enjoy!
